You had decided today was the perfect night for a trip to the beach. Packing up the food and supplies, you noticed you haven't hung out with your best friend. Shooting him a text, you pull your bag into the car. Shinso had replied almost immediately agreeing to the plans.

Pulling out of the driveway, you drove over to his house and parked the car in front of his house and waited. Tapping on the steering wheel, you consider honking the horn till the front door opens.

"Hurry up!"

He gave you a tired look and dragged his feet to the car. Before he could even latch his buckle up, you hit the gas and he lurched forward.

"Y/n!"

"Sorry, sorry."

We were victims of the night

Arriving at the beach, you pulled into the empty parking lot. You both exited the car in silence as you opened the truck to get your bag. Walking to the shore, your feet touched the now cold sand. Looking up at the moon you smiled.

As you gaze at the crescent moon, you don't feel his eyes on you. He had been avoiding you for a while, reason being, he couldn't keep his eyes off of you.

Grabbing his arm you pulled him over toward the edge and set up your beach chairs.

Pulling out the snacks you had packed, you handed him a can of boba and a sandwich. Taking some for yourself, you sat yourself next to him.

"Hey Y/n?"

I said you're holding back

She said shut up and dance with me

You turn to face the tired boy, but all of a sudden you felt weight on your shoulders. His hair brushed at your face.

This woman is my destiny

Guiding his head to your lap, you gently begin playing with his hair. Pulling the hair tie out of your hair, it falls and cascades around your face. Tugging all of the purple into one bunch, you tie his hair into a low ponytail. Admiring how the hairstyle matched his facial structure, your eyes might have stared a little longer than you intended to.

A backless dress and some beat up sneaks

His eyes fluttered open as if he felt her intense gaze. A light blush dusted across his face, but you didn't break the eye contact.

I felt it in my chest as she looked at me

I knew we were bound to be together

"We haven't even got in the water." Shinso noted, breaking the silence.

"Then let's change that." A Cheshire grin made it's way to your face as you got up and dusted yourself off. Extending an arm, he took it.

She took my arm

I don't know how it happened

You went running into the water, dragging him after you. You notice him staring and splash water on him.

"You are so on." He pushed a big wave of water at you, completely drenching your clothes.

We took the floor and she said

"TOSHI!" You leap on him, sending him tumbling back. All of a sudden he loses balance and falls backward onto shore. With you directly on top of him.

"Uh. Sorry." He awkwardly said, his eyes darting around everywhere but on you. Awkwardness, it's been happening more often lately and you felt your friendship strain because of it. You lift your hand and grab his chin, facing it towards you. Locking eyes, a blush dusted his face.

Just keep your eyes on me

"Y/n... I..."

I said you're holding back

"I like you. No- I think I love you..."

Without hesitation, you press your lips against his. You knew of his feelings for you, but you never made a move to approach them. You had never thought of him in a romantic light. But the scenery, the moonlight, the blush dusted on his face. You couldn't help yourself. You didn't know if it was love, and you didn't care if it wasn't. It felt right.

He freezes in shock, but soon relaxes. His feelings were reciprocated. Soon after you broke the kiss, you rolled off of him, landing on the sand. You both gaze up at the luminescence of the moon. A soft smile sat on both of your faces. But, before he could speak up, you cut him off.

You were in over your head, your final exams were next week, apartment rent was due tomorrow, and the cafe was in the weeds today. Being one of the only three baristas working this shift didn't make anything easier either. Quickly calling your friend, you put it in one wireless earbud and continued to prep the coffees.

"Hey bestie..."

“Yes y/n?”

"Study with me?"

You could  hear her sigh from the other end of the call. Soon papers rustled and you knew your friend had given in.

"What behaviors are included in psychology?"

Grabbing the hazelnut syrup, you pumped it twice into the coffee in front of her. Careful not to spill it, you walked over to the young man and gave it to him.

"One's actions, feelings, and thoughts."

"Okay. What is dualism?"

Quickly noticing the new group of customers, you rush back to the counter to finish the drinks already ordered.

"The concept that the mind and body are separate."

"What did John Watson believe about conduct?"

"He believed that all behavior was the result of conditioning."

Your latte art usually looked precise, but it was a bit sloppy today. Sighing, you waited for the next question.

"Definition of behaviorism."

"Emphasizes the dominance of heredity over the environment."

After delivering the latte, you rushed over to the new table.

"Dissociative Amnesia."

I see forever in your eyes

"Hi I'm y/n l/n I'll be your server today. can I start you off with a drink?" Pulling out the notebook, you pondered over the textbook definition.

"y-y/n?" someone repeated your name.

I feel okay when I see you smile

"yes. now can I start off you with a drink?" This question was frustrating you. Wasn't it a dissociative disorder?

"I'll have an espresso"

"Cappuccino please"

"Cold brew"

Wishing on dandelions all of the time

You gasped and they turned to look at you. "The sudden and extensive inability to recall important personal information. Usually after extreme stress or trauma."

"Correct again. Are you sure you don't already have it in the bag?"

"Fine, we'll study when I get home. Bye."

Praying to God that one day you'll be mine

You hung up the phone and noticed their lingering stare and quickly apologized. Jotting down their drinks on the empty page, you handed them the brochure

"Okay, here's the bakery items I'll be right over with your drinks."

I think that you are the one for me

Pulling out the glass cups from the back, you quickly got started by brewing the coffee. Taking that time to find the coffee that was pressed overnight. You strained it and poured some into the cup then grabbed a tray to place it on. After making the other two drinks, you carried the tray over to the table.

"Here are your drinks..."

'Cause it gets so hard to breathe

You looked up and realized that there were four people sitting there, but only three drinks on the tray.

When you're looking at me

"I'm sorry did I forget a drink or did one of you just not order? My head has been everywhere."

The young man with blue hair spoke up. "It is not your fault ms l/n, my friend here has not ordered."

You let out a breath, you thought you were losing it there for a second. Taking this time to actually look at them seated at this table, you realized that they were her age.

I've never felt so alive and free

"I don't mean to sound rude, but are you guys third years?"

A brunette girl spoke up cheerfully. "Yeah! We are! I'm guessing your one too?"

When you're looking at me

You nodded in return. "What school do you guys go to?"

"U.A" The blue haired boy spoke up again in pride. Your eyes darkened and one of them noticed.

"Ah. So you're hero course students I believe?"

They nodded in return.

"I'm Uraraka."

"Todoroki"

"Tenya Iida."

Your eyes brightened for a fraction of a second when those names seemed familiar. Quickly pulling out your notepad once again.

I’ve never felt so alive and free

"Nice to meet you. Would you guys like a bakery item? Or a drink?" Directing the last question at the boy who had not spoken up.

When you were met with silence from him, you turned to Todoroki.

"I'll have a strawberry shortcake."

"Tiramisu please."

When you're looking at me

"Which Mochi is the best here?"

You smiled and leaned in closer to the girl. "You didn't hear it from me, but the matcha one is the only one worth eating."

Uraraka beamed at you and nodded. "I'll take the matcha mochi then."

You gave one last look at the silent boy and walked back to the counter. The moment you stepped away however, they pounced on him.

"Deku are you okay?"

"You do not look well."

He quickly waved his hands in front of his face but quickly his face dropped. "I'm okay. It's just... her name is the same as someone I used to know, but she looks way different..."

I've never felt so happy

"Maybe it's a coincidence."

"Yeah... maybe." He was lost in thought, but his eyes remained staring at you behind the counter.

"Was it an old friend?"

"More than that. She was my best friend."

"What happened?" They were genuinely curious, but they didn't want to pry.

"One day we just stopped talking for some reason..."

"That seems like a dumb reason to stop a friendship. There's always something going on behind the scenes." You just appeared by the table holding four plates.

"Strawberry shortcake" you said and handed it Todroki. "Tiramisu" Iida expressed his thanks. "Matcha mochi." Winking, you handed it to Uraraka.

"Deku right? I just brought you some dango. On the house. Didn't want you to starve alone."

"How'd you know he likes dango?" Uraraka asked as Izuku accepted the dango gratefully. 

"I didn't. He just," you paused and examined his face, "reminds me of," you trailed off and Uraraka leaned forward.

"An old friend?" She guessed, eyes twinkling.

"You could say that." Your heart clenched as you remembered her old crush. More than a crush, your old love.

Todoroki's eyes narrowed. "What was his name?"

You looked at him in confusion, "why the sudden questioning?"

You also noticed that 'Deku' was now shuffling in his seat. He quickly excused himself and went off to the bathroom. Your eyes followed him.

"What was his name?" He asked again, this time his eyes glimmered in recognition.

And I've heard of a love that comes once in a lifetime

"Midoriya," she sadly smiled, "Izuku Midoriya."

And I'm pretty sure that you are that love of mine

Don't stay awake for too long, don't go to bed

That sleepy voice was filled with so much pain. You turn to face his glassy red eyes. Unable to say anything for a few seconds, you sit up against the headboard as if you're okay. There wasn't anything that could be done at this point.

I'll make a cup of coffee for your head

"Shota."

Releasing a choked breath, you realized even breathing was now a struggle.

"I think my time is almost up"

It'll get you up and going out of bed

His breath caught for a quick second and he felt a stinging in his nose. You grab his arm and have sit down on the bed right next to you.  Dropping your gaze, you tried to swallow the sobs rising in your throat. Failing, the tears began to spill over.

"I'm so sorry Sho."

Yeah, I don't wanna fall asleep, I don't wanna pass away

"Y/n..." He quickly grabbed you and pressed your face into his neck as your arms wrapped around him. His finger combed through your hair and he shut his eyes painfully. He struggled to speak, he struggled to let go.

I been thinking of our future 'cause I'll never see those days

Taking a deep breath, he attempted to pull himself together. He knew he had to be brave for you.

I don't know why this has happened, but I probably deserve it

He felt relieved that you could finally escape the pain. But what about him. For once he felt selfish.

"How are you feeling kitty?"

"Fine."

Your body felt like it was being ripped apart, inside and out. But you weren't thinking about that. You knew you would be relieved of the pain soon. You were thinking of him. What would this do to him?

I been praying for forgiveness, you've been praying for my health

"There's nothing that can solve this?"

Shota was desperate. He bit his lip and closed his eyes tightly, more tears risking to fall. His face burned from the sniffling and his head hurt from the crying.

When I leave this earth, hopin' you'll find someone else

"Oh gosh please don't leave me y/n. I can't sleep without you, I can't live without you."

'Cause yeah, we still young, there's so much we haven't done

Your heart dropped to your stomach and your heart beat furiously. You broke into a cold sweat and began to quiver.

Getting married, start a family, watch your husband with his son

"Just because you won't see me doesn't mean I won't be there. Cause I always will."

She gasped and strained as she pressed a hand against her heart.  This was the tragedy.

I wish it could be me, but I won't make it out this bed

"I don't want you to go yet."

He shook his head and pressed his forehead against yours. His lips trembled with a silent cry and warm tears streamed down his face.

I hope I go to heaven so I see you once again

"I love you."

Your breaths came to a still stop as you stopped moving in his arm. He let out a choked sob and clung to your body for dear life. All of your memories together flashed in his eyes. You knew each other since childhood. You promised you would marry him! His heart pounded against his chest as his eyes fluttered close.

My life was kinda short, but I got so many blessings

He walked home alone that night to find a gift bag by the fireplace. Curiously peering inside of it, he saw a bundle of yellow. He grabbed on it and pulled, and it unraveled to reveal a sleeping bag. A piece of paper fell out as he bent down to reach it.

"To my little caterpillar."

Happy you were mine, it sucks that it's all ending
