One day I will finally write the fic I've been planning in my head for like a year now, in which Ed is a former hitman (ala John Wick) and one night, after a case goes wrong, he stumbles badly injured onto Stede's doorstep because he saw the pride flag in the window and hinged his bets that Stede would be safe when he was scared to even go to a hospital. Of course, Stede tends his wounds, they click immediately, and by the time Ed's healed they're basically married. Ed's all scared because what if he's not cut out for a soft, quiet life, and even if he is, wouldn't that be putting Stede in danger???

And that's where the fun part is. Because people from Ed's past will show up, from good to very, very bad. But 99% of the time it won't even be Ed's problem. Because Stede will take care of it.

So most of the fic is Ed kicking his feet and twirling in pretty skirts and learning how to have the life he's always wanted, he's doing things like feeling soooo happy because he got a semi-legal name change (he took Stede's last name) and he's free now. He's learning how to make sourdough and reflecting on how his hands are truly meant for putting good into the world, and it's a crime that he was never allowed to see that until now. And meanwhile Stede's plotline for that chapter is rigging their house up Home Alone-style without Ed noticing because that morning there was a vague, ominous letter nailed to the front door from someone called The Skull Smasher. And Stede just didn't think that guy sounded very friendly.
