Doctor: Different specialties have different personalities, and I’m going to prove it. Is anyone here interested in orthopedics?
*Student raises hand*
Doctor: I suppose you didn’t bring anything to take notes with.
Student: … no, I didn’t.

I had a week long vacation not long ago, so I finally have enough energy to talk to non-medical friends once again. And I just realized once again, I'm not sure how to talk to them.
They tell me all the things they participated in, and I'm truly happy for them, all the while thinking I would never have half that much energy. They ask me how I am, I tell them I'm good, finally had a vacation. What did I do? Oh, literally nothing, tried to sleep off the worst of the exhaustion and tried to avoid interaction with other humans. How's work? You know, just the usual, it's good. It is good, and I love it, but how could I tell them all the horrors witnessed? That's right I don't, but what else do I have left to talk about? Most of my fun work stories are tainted with the shadows of tragedies... And unfortunately, I wouldn't trade it for anything.
So I just read their cheerful message and leave it on read, contemplating what to answer. And just hope they won't take offence to my agonizingly slow replies...

If the incidents which cause me to be around my gyneacological oncology attending occur at this speed, I will have to be his resident. Literally, the best human being/doctor/surgeon/educator ever.

I told this to my orthopaedics attending. He laughed and continued the joke, “well, ferritin is not among the things which an orthopaedist knows and investigates. Our knowledge only contains hemoglobin, that’s enough for us.”
The crisis the haematologist is in when the orthopaedist consults a patient because the patient’s hemoglobin level is 9.6 but no ferritin level has been investigated for a week.
“Reconsultation after the investigation of common causes of anemia (iron deficiency, B12 deficiency, folate deficiency) and the presence of a bleeding source will be convenient.”

Highlights of the internship - Week 27:
• The beginning of family medicine rotation; the month in which we will have the most free time. Therefore, finally, the period for me to be able to study properly.
• The doctor, who recognises us from the past and with whom we were going to be for 15 days, stood up and hugged us one by one. She said, “I have been expecting for you to come, I have missed you all!” 🥹
• Having cups of tea and coffee, occasionally finding opportunities to have chat, along with learning about medicines and the best side; she letting us leave whenever we wanted to study — it was a great week 👌🏼

Highlights of the internship - Week 26:
• Last week at psychiatry rotation.
• Another ‘getting mocked by my psychiatry attending’ moment include receiving a call from him only to listen to him mocking my surname.
• Had to attend an online psychiatry meeting of our attending in the lunch break. Not going to lie, it was not nice to have his whole face on my tablet in my food tray ahahah.
• For two days, I had to help him with his article. As he was sick and not focused, I had to take the roles of ‘the attention and concentration’ in the room. After him not liking when I made corrections and checking if I was right for a couple of times, he had to admit in the end: “I hate to admit it but that was a nice suggestion from you.”
Of course, not missing the opportunity to tease him, I was saying, ‘oh, I have been correcting his article,” whenever someone asked me what I was doing. In the end, a remark finally came, “how dare you?”
After all, I was *thankfully and rightly* appreciated though: “I am not going to lie, I have to praise her. She has helped me with my article and corrected some parts, she is really good.” 🫡

Highlights of the internship - Week 25:
• Starting to psychiatry internship.
• I loved that place because we had coffee and tea in our room and we had time to study when there were no patients which was a huge plus.
• The hour, which the previous intern group told us, turned out to be 15 minutes later than the hour we were supposed to be there. Not good for the first day as our psychiatry attending enjoys mocking me and I knew that I was not going to hear the end of this too 🙃
Like, the next day when I came in time; “you are late.”
“No, I am not.”
“Yes, you are. I am saying so.”
Or again, another day when I came in time; “would you die if you came one or two minutes earlier?”
• Had to help him preparing the exam of baby 1th year students :’)
• We evaluated a patient who will start using a dermatology medicine which has psychiatric side effects. It was educational for me 👌🏼
• Me and my friend have literally spent a couple of hours when we were free by playing games on our tablets, driving bus and truck shsjdj ahaha

Highlights of the internship - Week 24:
• Haemotology attending being astounded every day by my choice of white boots despite the weather ahahah.
• Someone held my waist in the hospital corridor and when I looked back in surprise, I saw an old lady. She said “don’t you eat anything at all?” and held my hand. Lady, it’s my normal weight, I am not sickkk ahahh
• Getting threatened by my oncology attending that he might prolong our internship there if we don’t finish the work in time. Joke or not it’s even scary to consider the possibility 😬
• Have been doing the same work on computer in the chemotherapy unit for such a long time that the medical secretary, after always seeing me in the same place, said: “So I see that you're just in the position I left you yesterday." 🥲
• One of our friends also visited us there and she was worried after seeing one of us in a sleepy state with three lines on her forehead and the other looking at her blankly, not being able to recognise her for a second (yes, I was latter haha).

Highlights of the internship - Week 23:
• I started to hematology/oncology this week. Not getting into detail but I don’t like it here much. The schedule is cruel.
• I was given extra work, just like I knew from the previous weeks when my oncology attending told me that he expected so much from me.
• We have presented the cases he gave us. Surprisingly, he liked them so much. Told that I showed my difference from the others again and as always.
• We came across a mid-wife from OB/GYN hospital who we haven’t seen for a long time. We hugged and talked a bit, OB/GYN internship is always missed <3

Highlights of the internship - Week 22 / Congress Edition:
• None of the hospital related events matter next to what I have lived during and for the congress of my university ahaha. I was going to make my first oral presentation this weekend and I have been preparing for it during all week.
• To say I was excited was to say the least.
• Almost every attending around us, even the dean, were saying that they were curious about our presentations and wanted to come and listen. I didn’t know I could get even more nervous?
• Especially on the presentation day, I could pass out hahah. Thankfully, I didn’t because there was a technical problem with the video I was going to show and dealing with it somehow calmed me down. My gynaecological oncology attending saved the video and me in the end though <3
• He did his oral presentation first and me and my friends looked at each other like, “after this amazing, magnificent, spectacular presentation; ours will look like sh*t” lol.
• But the liked it :’) so much :’) they but especially our gynaecological oncology attending praised us so much that I might have melted at the stage :’) he said we are like a resident in his eyes, not an intern :’) I also might not have stopped myself and thank to him and praise him while the dean was there too :’)
• So, as the future OB/GYN or gynaecological oncology doctors, me and my friend have finished this weekend in success 🥺
