If we stay true to star trek tradition, pike and una will have incredible chemistry (im talking longing looks, words of affirmation, tender touches) and then the writers will hit us w the classic, and then they didnt end up together :)
Uh oh.

I think the reason that I find Hannibal to be such a good show is that I am so used to unsatisfying endings for characters who should have been allowed to be queer. Don’t get me wrong, Hannibal is a great show independently, but when compared to everything else it’s even better. My main fandom is Deep Space Nine - a show that’s producer was overwhelmingly queerphobic and sexist. The main queer pairing that gets shipped in the show is appealing for all the same reasons that hannigraham is - the characters have very different morals and wind up changing each other - but at the end, they go their separate ways and one of them winds up with a woman who he was only put with in the last couple of episodes. After getting my heart broken by queerphobic media, Hannibal put it back together again.

4x04 honestly had such a tng/ds9 vibe to it and I love it. therapy and counselling? a shuttle crash AND a bunch of cadets who have to work together to get off the hell moon they crashed on? some people having new uniforms and some still having old ones? people playing cards in the bar? high politics and diplomacy, a planet (re)joining the federation, some truthful and valid commentary on the federation and its policies? a captain's log? hell yes! plus they actually mentioned cardassia and bajor. and confirmed that saru is still a captain even though he's also the first officer which adds a little bonus reference to kirk and spock in star trek v & vi and I think that's beautiful

hi I still think it's important to make more people aware of this-
the end credit art in hawkeye?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
yeah, it's so clearly meant to look like david aja's style and, despite making profit from it, disney did not pay him a cent. nor did they even bother crediting him.
Tumblr media
from aja's twitter:
Tumblr media
it even takes note from matt hollingsworth's minimalistic coloring style used in the comics, and, as far as I know, he's also getting nothing for it.
Tumblr media
I'm caught between "the art in these credits is so cool!" and "disney just fucking pay comic book artists please" (these panels get it)

i think that julian's been mending kukalaka himself his entire life and one day garak points out how shoddy some of the sewing is and offers to patch him up and julian refuses because he is incredibly protective of his teddy bear and He's The Only One That Gets To Mend Him Thank You Very Much

im glad tumblr doesn’t have a verified feature because it means whenever a comany wants their own url they have to snipe somebody elses blog to get it and it always creates such a huge backlash on here that whatever the brand was hoping to accomplish on tumblr becomes impossible due to the unfiltered hostility emanating from the userbase

Writing tip: if you need to provide a lot of worldbuilding information at once, but don’t want a bunch of characters explaining things to each other that they already know, have somebody do something terrible that’s related to the thing you want to explain, then have them morally justify themselves in a way that requires them to explain the thing.
Recognised variants:
The “it’s not what it looks like” explanation
The “I know this looks bad, but let me provide context” runaround
The “outlining the extenuating circumstances” ramble
The “really this is as much your fault as it is mine” reproach
The “it was a hard decision and you should pity me” appeal
The “here’s why I had no choice but to do what I did“ rationalisation
The “I was justified because fuck you“ rant

France has always and I mean ALWAYS had a history of Islamophobia...but, for those of you who don’t know what’s going on right now:
They’re trying to ban the slaughter of Halal chicken, citing animal cruelty and claiming Halal (I believe they also discussed Kosher) methods of slaughter are unethical compared to the European practice of stunning the animal (the Halal way of slaughter would be a cut to the jugular vein so that the animal feels no pain).
They then moved to ban the wearing of the Hijab (the Muslim headscarf) for girls under 18 in public places.
They also want to ban Hijabi mothers (women who wear the Hijab) from accompanying their child on school field trips.
Furthermore, they want to ban the Burkini (a swimsuit that a lot of Muslim women wear) at public swimming pools.
Tumblr media
These restrictions (I have definitely not covered a lot of them) fall under France’s Separatism Bill which still needs to be passed by the National Assembly. France maintains that these actions are to uphold secularism (the separation of religion and state).
However, these targeted laws and the statements accompanying them...
The Hijab ban was the “prohibition in the public space of any conspicuous religious sign by minors and of any dress or clothing which would signify an inferiorization of women over men.” This is a commonly used trope about Islam and Muslim men; that they are oppressive of women which is absolutely not true...take it from a Muslim woman! 🧕🏽
Emmanuel Macron said that Hijab is “not in accordance with French ideals”. This again alludes to the misconception that Hijab is oppressive and that by taking it away, we are liberating women. I don’t deny that there are women who had Hijab forced upon them, but what France is not acknowledging is that the forcing of any religious action upon people is completely the opposite of Islamic teachings and that there are actually women out there who can make decisions about what they want to wear...Surprise! It may come as a bit of a shock to them...
...just showcase how deeply rooted these laws are in Islamophobia and how France is maximizing restrictions on daily Muslim life just to...be a white saviour?
There are five million Muslims in France right now and they are all being affected by this.
As of right now I’m trying to find ways to counteract this. @feel-like-studying has linked a petition in the replies of this post. I’ll also link it here:

Amanda!!!!
[Image ID: A photo of a passage from Spock’s World by Diane Duane. The passage reads: “The marriage was a quiet one, but the news was still greeted with astonishment on Earth. Sarek took it calmly. One particularly annoying newspaper, which published a slight alteration on Amanda’s headline— “I married a little green man!” -received an interesting riposte from Amanda, when she was interviewed on one of the broadcast news services shortly thereafter: “There is nothing little,” she said with great dignity, “About my husband.” End ID.]
