Y’know I get where y’all are coming from with some of your “friends don’t look at each other like that” posts but also. I do look at my friends like that. I’m aro but even if I wasn’t I don’t think that would force me into loving my friends less. I’m out here looking at these guys with the most besotted look on my face. My friends can talk about things that I have zero interest in on my own and I will be so happy to have the privilege of listening to this incredible person talk about the things they care about. And I’m sure I’m looking at them “like I’m in love with them” while I’m doing it. Or my friends who are a couple will be talking about something that they did together and I’m just like “I get to watch two of my favorite people interact! And they love each other so much!” so yeah of course I’m gonna have a sappy look on my face. Idk where I’m going with this I’m just aro and love my friends so much and honestly if you don’t look at your friends like you’re in love with them? Skill issue.

#aro #aromantic #i was reading war and peace earlier and there was a part where andrey was just done with everyone (including his wife) #until he saw pierre and his entire mood shifted and he looked at him with joy and such #and i was like ah yes tooootally straight #and then i was like but also i would feel the exact same way seeing one of my friends if i was somewhere i didnt want to be #i think part of the reason ive had so much trouble figuring out what romantic attraction even is #is because we see romance in things that can be totally platonic #idk if that makes sense but tldr read interactions how you want but just remember that not everyone will see it the same #or when applied to real relationships that not everyone will feel that way based on actions that can be platonic

A little comic thing I made several years ago about learning to accept my aromantic/asexual identity

I struggled a lot with feeling broken and isolated after realizing I’m aromantic, watching others fall in love and move in together while I waded through the stress and anxiety of potentially being alone forever. Things are much better now, but it took a long time to see my identity as a good thing. Now, I realize that I might not be capable of romantic love, but I still have plenty of love to turn inward to myself, and love for the family and friends around me.

If a label feels too confining it's OK to not use it. A label shouldn't make you feel like you can't do things you want to do.

Adults make decisions about our lives, that's what being an adult is. We may decide to get a face tattoo, or quit a promising job, or join the army, or move to another country.

That's practically all we do as adults. We make decisions that effect the rest of our life, and then we live, or sometimes die, accordingly. Maybe i'll spend the rest of my life regretting telling my influential boss he doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground, but, as an adult, that's the kind of life decision i am allowed to make for myself. And after all, it might be the best thing i ever did. It's my life, and i get to do all the fucking around and all the finding out i want to.

surgical transition, or sterilization, or whatever... is exactly the same. If you aren't going to let a legally adult person decide for themself about that stuff, then you can't let them get a tattoo or move to Florida either
