She ain't just setting him up in a cosy cottage with a garden and care staff - she's giving him access to top secret UNIT history! He's getting all the dirt on the Doctor, Liz, Jo, Benton etc from the 70s/80s! He's getting to see all the alien artifacts collected over the years! Kate is going round there for tea and a chat every Sunday, sharing stories her dad used to tell her and updating him on what the Doctor is up to and Wilf's eyes are sparkling every time while trying not to cry because he can't have these chats with his granddaughter.

the convoluted doctor who lore gets extra funny when you realize that, at two separate points in the past, two different companions to two different doctors ended up running into rasputin but both came to the conclusion that he was a pretty nice and normal guy. which, depending on how you interpret the power of the doctor, is either a nice subversion of a lot of tropes of stories used in pre-soviet russia, or side-splittingly hilarious as you start imagining the master getting roped into various adventures with different versions of the doctor that he can’t fuck with yet or else he’ll destroy the timeline, forcing him to play nice with the humans as part of his 4D Time Chess Master Disguise Plan #3852

I respect the fact that you have other things going on in your life beyond answering our thread. And sometimes people have writer’s block. I get that.

Take your time replying to me and don’t feel guilty.

I’d rather you took your time and were proud and happy with your reply than sending me a rushed one that you have writer’s remorse about later that makes it even more likely that thread will get dropped.

And even if a thread does get dropped, that doesn’t mean we can’t keep roleplaying. We can always start something new from a different angle.

It bothers me that so many people think Lionel would have been a good father to Lex if he didn't believe Lex had murdered Julian. Nope. Even not taking the Fracture flashback in cosideration, all the proof is right there in Memoria. Lionel is cruel and indifferent to Lillian's distress and very obvious depression, and Lillian's very reason for not wanting more children after Lex is because she's seen how Lionel treats Lex, "chipping away at his spirit". She believes Lionel will pit Lex and Julian against each other and turn them into monsters. Everything we know about Lionel suggests she is right. Besides, if we believe that Lionel would have been a decent father to Lex if Lillian hadn't killed Julian, it would reinforce the idea that Lillian was the bad guy and Lionel her victim. Except that Lillian was a victim of Lionel's emotional and physical abuse. The way he treats her in Memoria is abominable.

Lionel's reaction to Lex losing his hair, the deleted Pilot scene where he basically provokes Lex into a panic attack, and of course, the Fracture flashback -

it all happened waaay before Julian was even born.

This man was never good father material, and had Julian lived, Lex would have probably just become the 'unfavorite' the way Tess did in the alternate reality episode.

To sum up, let's just kill the fandom myth that Lionel was a good daddy waiting to happen until mean crazy Lillian messed things up.

Alrighty, well, this was worth a shot <3 I guess I'll put the blog on hiatus until December and re-evaluate then. At the moment I'm getting no interaction even from mutuals so I'll redistribute my time and energy accordingly.

It's a shame bc Smallville Lex deserved better, and I'm actually a halfway decent writer. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  Regardless, no hard feelings.

my blog has been around for a while. a lot of you following me now have kids or are considering kids.

no matter what you do and what precautions you take, no matter how active your kid is or how many sports they play, no matter how much you think this post will never apply to you, there may come a time in your life where your child gets sick and does not fully recover. there may come a time when they develop a chronic illness, an incurable medical condition, or become disabled. at any age. nobody is too young for this to happen to them. an accident, an illness, an injury, any one of the many genetic conditions out there without proper testing, something you thought they would recover from. any number of things here.

and if that happens. I need you to do this for me. I need you to look at your kid. no matter how much you wish nothing bad ever happened I need you to very seriously sit them down. and I need you to tell them

"I will love you even if you never recover."

and I need you to mean it.

And why did Jonathan's characterization sour SO much LATER?

I'M NEVER GONNA BE OVER THIS GUYS.

Lionel is still utterly paralyzed and stammers out "w-what happened to his hair".

Jonathan rushes over to him, covers him with his coat, checks his pulse, sees that he's alive. He picks him up and starts back to his truck, pauses, and gives this look at Lionel.

And it just.

This is one of those scenes that is beautifully paced. Very little dialogue. BUT IT SHOWS A MOUNTAIN OF THINGS IN JONATHAN AND LIONEL'S CHARACTERIZATION, THEIR FATHERING STYLES.

Does Lex remember this? Does he have vague memories of his father, the day of the meteor shower? Did he assume Lionel must have carried him out of the cornfield, or one of his henchmen? When he looked at Jonathan Kent as a father with envy and appreciation, did he sometimes have a wisp of a dream that it was Jonathan who carried him out of the cornfield, that Jonathan had taken him home and was his father now?
