Moving Blog
Hello!
I originally started this as a side blog just to see if I wanted to continue with Tarot and maintain a secondary blog. I’ve decided that I while I do want to continue with Tarot and posting my journey I will need to separate it from my main blog so I do not accidentally crosspost. I will be keeping this blog up but will post all new content to my new solely Tarot blog at: https://awithew.tumblr.com/.
Please follow awithew for my new posts. :)

I - The Magician
Power, focus, resourcefulness
The Magician is powerful; capable of manifesting their desires. Using their skill, focus, optimistic demeanor, and resourcefulness, they achieve all their goals  and overcome any obstacles. Holding infinity, the magician is capable of limitless possibilities as long as they put their mind to it.
If this card is pulled, then this is a time when one has tremendous influential energy. By deeply concentrating on one’s goal, using their knowledge, and resources, they can accomplish anything.
However, should this card be pulled as a reverse, it suggests that you may be out of touch. Perhaps you have unrealistic goals, are not utilizing all of your talents and resources, or your objectives may not be clear. Regardless, a reassessment is needed.
The Magician in reverse may also represent being manipulated by another, or feeling as though your skills are not being utilized fully.

Decided to charge my new decks with sunlight today. I usually prefer moonlight but decided to take advantage of the sun’s first appearance in days!

Question: What do I need to focus on right now?
Deck: Victorian Fairy
Keywords: Optimism, freedom, happiness
Yes the world out there is scary and I’m extremely anxious and nervous about school and starting my internship tomorrow; however, this isn’t a time to turn inwards and isolated. The Knight of Summer is telling me I need to focus on allowing myself to be happy and free. I’ve earned it. It’s time to fly with the birds and just enjoy life. Be free, be optimistic, and be happy. <3

On Deck Interviews
When first getting a new deck, tarot, oracle, or otherwise, there are a lot of ways to bond with the cards and get to your deck.  Many people suggest a tarot spread designed to interview the deck itself, and they often include spread positions like “What will I learn from you” or “In what ways will you challenge me” etc.  These are intended to help you get a feel for how the deck will respond to your questions, what type of personality the deck will show, what have you.  I’ve often recommended this method myself, but usually along with a list of other things you can do to get to know your deck.
But you know what?  I really don’t like deck interviews at all!  It took me awhile to figure out exactly why but I think it’s because it has the potential to set the tone for the entire relationship with your deck, before you even break the ice.
But wait, isn’t a deck interview supposed to be the ice-breaker?  Well, yeah, but how many ice-breaker activities have you done in school, in sports, in the workplace?  How awkward have they been?  Did they give you an accurate view of the people participating?  Were you always able to give a complete representation of yourself?  If you have, that’s awesome, but I’ve always found them to be somewhat clumsy at best.
Getting to know people (and decks!) takes time and consistent interaction.
Another issue I have with them is that they’re often being used by newbies who haven’t yet had the time to develop their confidence in their intuition.  They often second guess themselves or limit themselves solely to the LWB, and in many cases, have difficulty interpreting a spread as one cohesive story, and strictly stick with card by card meanings.  Details are sometimes missed, tone is misinterpreted, and that’s to be expected, of course.  So I think it’s really unfair to set the tone of the relationship with their deck with just one reading.. or the same reading over and over again because what does that mean?  I don’t get it.  Lemme start over as many newbies do lol (please realize, I’m speaking from experience, I’ve gone through all of that too!)
So.. here’s the part where I offer you alternative ways to get to know your deck and get your “I wanna do readings!” fix too
Daily challenges!  There are always plenty floating around on tumblr and instagram and will give you prompts to use to work with your deck.
Free readings!  It may seem like a big leap, but if you’ve done a few readings for yourself, you can definitely give practice readings to others.  It’s ok if you’re still using the book.  The thing is, you’ll (potentially) get a very diverse amount of questions and situation to read for.
Reading for past events.  Think about big moments in your life.  Ask your deck what they’ve taught you, how they’ve shaped you into the person you are today, etc.
Reading for fictional characters.  Gossip with your deck over your favorite fandom!
I feel like these methods are both more casual and more organic.  Using them, you will get to know your deck naturally over time, rather than trying to juice it’s entire personality out of one reading.
If you like doing deck interview spreads, and they work for you, that’s great!  Really it is, and keep doing that.  Always do what works for you!  But if you have trouble, and you feel like you’re not getting what you needed/expected/wanted out of them, there are other ways!  You don’t have to do what everyone else does, we all have different ways of learning, we all have different strengths.  Find what will work best for you!

Question: What’s holding me back?
Deck: Steampunk Tarot
So I was intending to pull only one card but ended up with two because one jumped out of the deck while I was shuffling and the other stalked me the entire time I was shuffling. It just kept appearing!
Seven of Wands Reversed was the jumper card. This one took a bit for me to figure out what it was saying but I think it’s trying to tell me that I need to have more confidence in myself. I’m about to start an internship (something I’ve never done before) that has a lot of major responsibilities. I am also coming up on Comps for my Masters at the end of the year and I’m terrified that I will fail. I keep telling myself I’m not prepared for the internship or Comps and that I’m not ready and not good enough. This card is saying that that lack of confidence is holding me back from succeeding. I know that I can do it. That I can rock this internship and pass Comps, I just need to have more confidence and conviction in myself.
The Hermit Reversed was the stalker card. I think I knew before I shuffled and drew that this card was going to appear. This one relates to me on a more personal level. I’m an extreme introvert that has become steadily more isolated over the years due to terribleness in my personal life. I think I’ve fallen too far into the mindset that if I just stay in my house most days that nothing bad will happen. However I’ve isolated myself so much that nothing is happening. Life is passing me by. This card is telling me that I need to stop hiding away from the world and get out there, whether to find new friends or even a relationship again. It’s time to stop being the Hermit and explore the world.

Tarot Tip: Inverse Cards
It took me a while to get the meaning of Inverse cards.   What is an inverse/inverted card? This is when you flip the card over and the picture is upside down. Inverted cards have their own meaning that is usually quite different than the rightside up version.
I heard it means the opposite Well, no, not exactly. Some people may interpret them this way, but I find it more accurate that it means that the intent/meaning/symbolism of that card is either Repressed, or Excessive.
Repression You are struggling with this concept/idea.  It’s not coming as easily, or causing a battle within yourself.  Example: if right side up the card has to do with creativity and imagination, you may be struggling with your creative juices when the card is reversed.
Excessive This is when the card’s meaning has gotten excessive, gone to an extreme, or become toxic. There must be Balance in all things, and when things become excessive, they ultimately become destructive.  Continuing with the example of a card to do with creativity and imagination - perhaps your imagination has run away with you.  Or you are neglecting necessary responsibilities in pursuit of creative outlet.
How do I know which is which? Your intuition should be able to tell you pretty quickly if you are struggling to manifest the concepts in the card, or if they have been taken to an unhealthy extreme.
Protip: Pay special attention when there are inverse cards involving relationships.  Relationships can become toxic far too easily and your intuition may be warning you of a situation or relationship that needs to be brought back into a healthy balance. It is easy for us to let our emotions run away with us. Use your intuition and the cards to help you maintain healthy situations, and when something becomes toxic or unhealthy - take steps to resolve it or walk away if it cannot be resolved.

Tarot Trick
Shuffle your deck and think about a goal or desire. When you feel ready, split the deck in your hands and then hold the exposed card face up on either side. The card revealed in your left hand is what will hinder you, in your right what will help you.

This month will serve to help my growth and the changes within this life experience. I created this spread to help me Release what no longer serves me, Rebuild my best life from the rubble of change and Recharge my goals and interest to create more harmony and authenticity within my true self.
Position One: Release: What must I RELEASE from my life?
Sometimes there are things, people and areas of our lives that have run their courses and no longer serve us to be the best we can be. This position asks us to look at that portion of our lives so that we may clear out the clutter to make room for the new.
Position Two: Rebuild: How can I REBUILD my life?
Sometimes reinvention can be a scary thing. We often don’t know where to start. This position provides the first small step in rebuilding our lives.
Position Three: Recharge: How can I RECHARGE the best part of my life?
Sometimes in life we lose focus on the things that matter, our passions, our relationships, interests, our calling. This position provides us with how we can breathe new life into our passions and rejuvenate those parts of our lives so that they can continue to help us with being our most authentic and joyous selves.
