Ballum Week 2020 - Day 7: Pride
Scene continuation (yes I know, again 🙈 its the last one this week though, promise 😅) of Callum’s coming out scene.
Only one month ago he would have freaked at the mere thought of this. Standing in front of the Vic kissing Ben Mitchell. Kissing Ben Mitchell in plain sight, for the whole square to see. Not only that - kissing Ben Mitchell knowing the people surrounding them were watching on.
Whitney. Stuart. Jonno.
He wouldn’t even have dreamed of it, and even if he had it would have been a shame-filled nightmare of everyone screaming at him, looking at him in disgust.
Yet here he was. Kissing Ben Mitchell. Almost forgetting there was anyone else there besides him and Ben. Without feeling any shame.
Callum felt Ben’s lips slowly move against his, reveling in the feeling of warmth and nervous tingles that ran through his whole body. He couldn’t help but get lost in the feeling. It was almost like they were in their own little bubble, shut out completely from everyone else, despite of how many eyes were turned towards them and Callum wanted to press even closer. Nothing seemed to matter at that moment. Just them. Just Ben. The way his hands pressed against his cheeks, the way he could feel him smile into the kiss. Callum was just about to pull him impossibly closer, to let the kiss deepen, when Ben’s hands suddenly moved to press against his chest, pushing them apart.
“Alright, alright. I’ll go on a date with you.”
Callum smiled as Ben’s words still echoed in his mind. He was gonna go on a date with Ben. The thought terrified and exited him in equal measures. Yet there was one feeling that overshadowed everything else. A sense of freedom. Callum didn’t feel like he needed to question his every movement anymore as he walked away from the Vic, didn’t have to worry about people seeing the grin that he couldn’t have held back even if he wanted to and questioning its cause. He could finally be himself without having to hide.
Lost in thoughts as he was, Callum didn’t even realize where he was going, letting his feet take him wherever. He chuckled when he finally looked up and realized he stood in the middle of the park. The irony wasn’t lost on him. Of course he would end up in the place where his life had been flipped upside down only a few months ago. Where he had first kissed Ben.

A glimpse of what Pride 2020 could have been for Ballum. 🏳️‍🌈 For Katie @halfwayinit, you inspired me to write this and you are always an amazing support, a true angel 🌻
Title is from Loving Someone by The 1975 cause its my pride anthem.
Yeah, You Should Be Loving Someone
Callum squeals and giggles like an over excited schoolboy as Ben chases him up the stairway of the flat. Ben’s fingertips nipping at the cushion of his hips, goofy expression drawn on his face.
“C’mere you.” He growls, finally getting his hands on Callum’s waist.
They both puff in each others faces, short of breath from running about the square and back home. Their faces are flushed, the colour competing with the painted walls that surround them, giddy from the days events.

it’s us against the world (you and me against them all) (ao3)
ben
Bright colours filled the streets, music booming from speakers, smiles on everyone’s faces as they got sucked in to the atmosphere of Pride. Ben, however, felt sick to his stomach. It was the first time he had experienced Pride, and it didn’t help the pang of guilt that he felt throughout his entire body. He wasn’t out yet, though he knew he was gay. In reality, he hadn’t even fully accepted it himself, constantly having to battle the internal homophobia he felt after years of his dad making homophobic comments to Ben, letting him know that he would never accept a gay son.
He looked around him, watching as people danced together, bright smiles beaming across their faces, a multitude of flags wrapped around their shoulders, ones that Ben had no idea what they meant. He had never been exposed to anything like this before, it was a complete shock to him. Ben didn’t really know why he got on the tube to come here, but his legs moved before his brain had time to process it. Suddenly, a rainbow flag was placed into his hand, and Ben looked at it, confused.
“The parades starting!” A – rather attractive – man announced, no more than a couple years older than Ben himself. “First time?”
Ben nodded, his brain aching already from the heat and the noise but also the inner turmoil that Ben found himself in. It had felt like an age since he last admitted that he found a man attractive, and it terrified him. Nevertheless, he followed the man into the parade, standing shoulder to shoulder with him, holding his little rainbow flag in his hand, waving it about half heartedly.
It was much later on, when the sun had gone behind clouds and the brightness of the summers day had faded into a dusk, the warmth still evident, though a breeze made its way through London streets, when it happened. They had spent the whole day together, Ben learning about Pride, though his entire body ached with the acknowledgement that he probably wouldn’t even be able to come out – not if he didn’t want to be disowned. They had gone into a bar, following a crowd of people into the building with flashing lights and promises of the cheapest alcohol in the area, and three hours later they stumbled out together, cheeks flushed with the strength of booze that had been consumed in a short space of time. The streetlights flickered to life, flooding the streets in shades of orange and yellow and white, and suddenly Ben was pressed against a wall in an alleyway, lips attacking his own. It was nice, surprisingly. Ben’s heart fluttered as he felt stubble scratch across his face, and he thought it would be uncomfortable, but it really wasn’t. It just felt normal. He regretted how much time he had spent missing out on feeling this good, and then he heard a crowd of people rush past him just as he let out a soft moan, and pushed the man away from him, quickly running off without so much as looking back.
When Ben made it home, and he cowered under his bedsheets with shaky hands and a hitch in his breath, he vowed that he would never attend Pride again.

Ballum Week 2020 - Day 6: Celebration
“Where are we going?”
“And what exactly would be the point of you keeping your eyes shut if I´d tell you that, huh?”
Callum could hear the amusement in his voice.
“Should I be worried considering how much you seem to be enjoying this?”, he threw back, a chuckle escaping him as well. Somehow Ben´s laugh always was infectious to him.
The tugging on his hand that had pulled him forwards for the last few minutes stopped suddenly as Ben halted in front of him.
“I thought you trust me?” His words sounded nearer now and Callum could almost feel him standing right in front of him. There was still this tingling feeling, this rush that overcame him whenever Ben was close. He wondered if it would ever go away. His thoughts were interrupted in a second though as Ben leaned in close, their noses brushing together. “You do, don´t you?”
If Callum hadn´t wanted to keep the surprise he would have rolled his eyes at his boyfriend.
“You know I trust you.”, he whispered between them instead. “But I also trust you to be a wind-up.”
