loving the idea of bill and spina becoming besties because they see gene and babe and they’re like omg these guys are idiots.

spina notices that gene spends extra time checking up on babe and that heffron has become babe at some point. it’s not that hard to put together after that. bill notices a little slower, babe has always been a social person but there was something different about the way babe treated doc. it clicks when he sees the way babe becomes frantic after a shelling and no one had seen doc. (bill had found them later, curled up next to each other. babe was holding doc’s face in his hands and kept telling doc that he wasn’t allowed to do that and that he had to promise to stay safe. bill left as quickly as he arrived but he caught doc’s fond smile right before he left.) but it’s ridiculous because the two of them haven’t even noticed that they like each other and bill keeps watching them do ridiculously sapping stuff and of course he rolls his eyes and that’s when he notices spina scoffing too. and that’s how they become besties—it wasn’t that hard in the first place. spina was from south philly so of course he already liked bill. the two of them end up shooting looks at each other when they see babe and gene do anything and they can’t help but laugh like it’s their little inside joke—which it totally is. when babe and gene finally get together, spina and bill still end up shooting looks at each other just now it’s whenever the two of them do anything couplely which really isn’t that different from before.

Rrreeeaaalllyyy wish we could have, like, 2 or more episodes just exploring Eugene Roe and more of what his experiences were.

Am I obsessed with this man? Yes

Do I care my sanity is waning because of my obsession with this man? No.

I also want to know more about him and Gordon, specifically.

He’s like one of the only people to openly joke with Gene (let me check the sewing room or it might be upstairs in the study, that skinny lil drawer in the middle of the desk). And then Gene is just done with him.

Every other interaction Gene has with anybody is professional and caring (besides maybe Babe).

Gordon even ‘calls Eugene over’ to his foxhole, Eugene responds and Gordon gives him morphine, offers him coffee and food, tells him where he can get sizzuhs and let’s him know of the situation with Toye, that would be of interest to him.

Roe calls him Gordon at all times until he gets hit (when Gene often drops the formalities) and calls him Smoke.

Gene just seems closer to Smokey than he does to the rest of the guys (not counting Spina or Babe).

While working on my wip i realized something about the scene where Babe and Spina try to wake Eugene during the shelling when Harry got hit.

Eugene has a one man foxhole, it's big (or rather small) only for one man. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but amongst the rest of easy company, there would be at least two guys in one foxhole (I can think of Dike being alone in his foxhole as well, but I'm not counting him okay lol). And I'm thinking how it once again represents Gene distancing himself from the rest of the guys. (Or maybe I'm just looking too much into it lol but-)

Then Babe and Spina come running in and those two are the only two guys that Eugene actually bonds with, like I know he cares for all of the easy company men, but with these two it's different. With Spina, he talks about his life outside of the war, he talks about his grandma, and with the way Spina had asked about the cajun healers, I think they had talked about this before. And Babe, well, do I even have to say anything? Their relationship is just something else.

Spina and Babe just went "we know you're trying to put a wall around yourself but let me ask you about your people and let be ask you to call me by my really weird nickname, let us find you and help you get up when you're struggling, even if you didn't want that let us be there for you like you're there for us" and I think that's beautiful.

there’s something so soft about baberoe. like ughhhh, like yes i chose you out of everyone to find comfort in. yes, you’re the person i’m looking for after anything happens.

thinking about them after bastogne. like you know the two of them were sharing a foxhole after everything happened. they probably never grew out of the habit, sleeping together after bastogne too. thinking about gene obsessively checking babe’s scar on his hand to calm himself down. it reminds him that babe’s still in front of him breathing, alive. thinking about babe always getting two servings of food even if gene’s right next to him because he’s gotten used to it. half of the time gene’s overworking himself in the aid station and babe brings him food so they can eat together. thinking about how if babe or gene can’t be found, easy goes to the other person to ask if they know where he is (most of the time they’ll find them together). thinking about how all the other nurses/medics know babe very well because he refuses to leave gene’s side. and how gene becomes closer with the other easy men because babe is always dragging him along. thinking about them being so in sync that they’re basically one person.

just something so very soft about them knowing they’re in a war but still choosing to love each other regardless of the fact they can die. choosing to love in spite of the war. (can you guys tell how much i love baberoe)

­­­Things about Ron Speirs that live rent free in my head

-“SPEIRS, GET YOURSELF OVER HERE!”

I don’t know what I like most about this scene. The fact Dick just furiously passed Sink and ignored his commander, because his boys were getting screwed? Speirs running to him and then without a single word sprinting to do the job? Or Nixon with his binoculars liveblogging the whole  battle? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

-The change in his voice and intonation between “I’m taking over” and “First Sergeant Lipton!”.

-The church scene, when Lipton says Easy men didn’t care about the gossips… It was HILARIOUS. Like, Lip? Sweetheart? Ron scared the shit out of Christenson and some poor innocent kids in the same damned ep. I could hear Pat’s sobbing in the background during that scene, mixed with the nuns’ chorus.

-A man needs a hobby and his was trolling people. Aside of the whole “did he or did he not shot the prisoners”, he enjoyed the gossips, appearing suddenly out of nowhere, while giving creepy speeches and traumatizing people. And he did it fabulously. Legend.

-His little, millisecond pause, when we watch his back while Lipton says “Well, maybe they keep talking about it because they never heard Tercius deny it”.

-And two things about this scene. Lipton knows Speirs was trolling people and it was amusing him. And Ron’s answer “Well, maybe that’s because Tercius knew there was some value to the men thinking he was the meanest, toughest sonofabitch in the whole Roman legion” - he knows Lip knows he was trolling people and (not directly) admits it. He never did that to anyone else, what also means he really respected Lipton (gross sobbing).

-Anyway, this whole church scene is a pure love and I adore every second of it.

-He was a history nerd ;_; I’m kind of sad, we didn’t see him and Buck taking about some ancient battles in Gaul.

-He kept tabs on Easy xD how much he’s learnt from creeping in the shadows and eavesdropping – no one knows xD

-The fact real Speirs was shot in the ass on some of his solo patrols proves he was just meant to be Easy’s CO. Fucking destiny.

-His favourite sergeant was Grant (ok, ok, put the pitchforks DOWN, I said sergeant NOT lieutenant, geez).

-The fact no one called him “Sparky” in the show is a crime against humanity. But at least we got one “Ron” from Winters. Still…

-I think I read somewhere here, that he wore his helmet so low, because it was too big and… yes? Absolutely? Whoever noticed it – I bow to you.

And it reminds me all the promo pics where we have most of the characters standing together and he stands on the side, a little farer and looking awkwardly like “mom said I have to socialize more, so here I am, ugh…”.

-Also, he looks tiny compared to the other guys on many shots/pics, what is hilarious on many levels.

-I realized it after the second watch, that he not only stole cigarettes from Buck, but he offered them to the German POWs. Not his cigarettes, but the shit he stole. I don’t know why, but it’s just so super HIM xD

-I wonder when exactly Easy Company did realize that their new CO is not exactly the meanest, toughest sonofabitch in the army, but a big ass weirdo, with poor social skills, suspicious hobbies and sticky hands.

-Ep 8 look >>>>>>>>>>>>> everything else.

-The moment when Webster throws himself to the ground and Ron just stands in the background, watching the missile like it was meh (he had a personal ranking of “Things that almost killed me” and that missile was not even on the Top 10).

-“No. You don’t have any experience.” How the fuck Jones didn’t drop dead right after is beyond me. Also, A+++ acting.

-The fact is that Lipton was his social-skills-only-working-brain-cell and it’s beautiful.

-The moment Perconte asked him to give him back his lighter, I guess it was the moment Speirs knew his reputation crumbled to dust xD

-Unpopular opinion, but I don’t think Malarkey scared him on a purpose. I think it was accidentally, what for me, makes it even funnier. But the fact Don started as someone who was scared of Speirs like no one else and ended scarring him – it just warms my heart.

-And that pure annoyance on Ron’s face when Malarkey’s approaches him a second after he scared him, will never stop making me laugh. It the look could kill the bottle in Don’s hands would explode.

-On some point Lipton was sitting with his head in his hands and moaning that he was not paid enough to keep his crazy CO with suicidal tendencies alive and Luz was there-thereing him.

-All the things he's done to keep Grant alive.

-Basically, Speirs gives me a stray cat vibes and the fact he kind of, adopted Lipton and whole Easy proves it.

-And finally, the way he went from “we are all dead, just accept it” to “ok, I guess I’m going to stay in the army to keep the idiots alive (sighs)” is one of the best character developments and is so… sooo … you know? ;_;

Anyway, the thing I like the most about his character is how unexpected he is. I didn’t expect to like him so much. I didn’t expect him to change so much in such splendid way. But here I am.

We meet him in the show as  “a cold blooded soldier” stereotype and we learn in the end he was just deeply compassionate man (and a weirdo), who applied being a sociopath to be a better man of war. It just makes him very human - thanks to the fact his character was based on a real man, I guess. And that applies to all BOB’s characters.

And BIG kudos to Matthew Settle for doing such a great job and creating an iconic character. I read and watched some interviews, where he admitted he had a big problems with grasping the role, but damn, in the end he absolutely NAILED IT.

there’s something really poetic about how gene is a medic that saves other people but he needs someone to save him. the way gene was internalizing all of his pain and kept it all inside because he knew he needed to be strong for the other men and couldn’t lose his shit. the way babe notices this and refuses to let gene do this. babe starts getting food for him and starts looking out for him. and of course gene doesn’t want the attention at first, he can’t get close to anyone—he’s a medic. but babe is a stubborn bastard if anything and he’s persistent and he’s so so nice but then julian happens. and gene watches how the talkative and happy babe goes from that to something sadder and refuses to let that happen. gene knows he’ll do anything to put that smile back on his face, he gets him chocolate and makes sure he eats it. and then reńee dies but gene has babe now, and babe is there for him—he always will be. the way the both of them just wanna give give and give to each other and would do anything to help each other. the way they love each other with everything inside of them.

Recently, I've been rewatching bob, and in ep10 I noticed a moment between winnix. It's right after they meet Sobel: Dick turns to Lew and the expression on Lew's face is something that I can't decipher and so I wanted to ask you what do you think was going through his head? Was it some bitter nostalgia? Or just him silently laughing at Dick's attitude?

This is just my personal interpretation, but I always thought about it as like... their double-act when it comes to handling Sobel together, ya know? If you watch Winnix closely when they're both dealing with Sobel at the same time, you'll notice that if one breaks out of attention, the other doesn't. It happens in the "It's a can of peaches, sir"; though Dick does famously smile a bit there, it's barely noticeable-- he's holding on very tightly to attention to resist breaking further, because Dick knows that if Nix is being sarcastic, then he can't afford to be. While only one of them can be in trouble at any time, both being in trouble might be too much (and they might be forced to separate). Kinda like naughty schoolboys when confronted with a strict teacher?

So, in my head, this scene in ep10 is just an extension of that. This time, it's Dick being sassy-- he gets to make a point while also getting Sobel to salute him. Lew, seeing this, clearly can't react while Sobel is still there to see him react, because it's now become a force of habit to play the complete and indifferent soldier while the other is being sassy, and he only breaks that façade and smiles when Dick looks at him-- which, by the way. Super cute.

Dick, who is famously sassy and dry humor-ed on his own, has never needed a tag-team to reassure him of his greatest hits... but he turns around to Nix anyway, as if to say "did you see that? did you see the way I ratio'd him?" and Nix just smiles because "yeah, honey, I saw" like????? can they get any more married?

so im writting this fic where gale and john end up in the future after scaping the stalag and they find curt there, well and alive. none of them know what happened or how they end up there, so they start trying to find a way to go back. but it just turns out… there is no war in the future; curt is alive, and… john secretly realizes he’s accepted there; free to be who he is, free to love.

gale knows that going back is the right thing to do, but john, john is not so sure.

[there will be: bucky discovering music apps, gale in hot modern outfits that makes him feel weird but john is in love, curt afraid to tell them he can’t come back (angst) and john x lgbtq+ couples everywhere being happy, married, with family, freedom and rights (hurt/comfort)]
