Hi, it's Paul here. Listen, thank you for listening to my music this year. I'm always extremely chuffed to find people enjoyed it and so I love ya, and you love me. So, thanks a lot. It's a wrap.
Paul McCartney on Spotify Wrapped 2023
Well, I wasn’t expecting that. Nicely played, Spotify
“At the beginning it was very hard, knowing that we were going in there to do this track with him. It was pretty emotional. He wasn’t there. I loved John. We had to imagine he’d just gone for a cup of tea, that he’s gone on holiday but he’s still here. That’s the only way I could get through it.”
So Now and Then is a qualified success, although the question remains: what’s it for? It clearly doesn’t exist to make money, which none of the Beatles or their estates need [...]
Perhaps the real reason for its existence lies with McCartney. No Beatle tried harder to keep the band together or seemed more shattered by their split. And no Beatle has worked more tirelessly to affix a happy ending to their story, never failing to remind interviewers that the band were a tight studio unit to the end, regardless of what was happening outside of it, and that he and Lennon were friends again at the time of his death; [...]
The premature conclusion of the mid-90s sessions clearly niggled him: he has repeatedly mentioned finishing Now and Then in the intervening years.
Now he has, an act of closure underlined by one of the lyrics he appended to Lennon’s: after the lines about missing you and wanting you to be there for me, he adds “always to return to me”.

i think ANOTHER thing that drives me up the wall insane is that john sounds so alone in the demo well because he was! now and then was him singing by himself in his apartment. but this sound wall technique fills up your whole body with the love that paul, ringo and george poured into it, there isnt a moment where he has to sing alone anymore, theyre all with him again
now and then was good okay soulmates etc who the fuuuck let paul get his grubby paws on love me do why is the bass way up and the harmonica down 😭 where's the tambourine
