I know what you're thinking. And you're right! Making a Magnum P.I. sideblog to try and start a fandom makes no sense. But here I am anyway. Lou, 28, lifelong Magnum fan since June 2020
ok I get that this is a joke but I would like to point out that Magnum P.I. was not copaganda. Magnum is a private investigator who frequently works against the local police. There was even an episode where he investigated the rape and murder of a woman by a cop who was being protected by his colleagues and the system (the same episode dealt with how cops' primary function is enforcing a system under which mentally ill people are designed to suffer because they frame a homeless vet with severe PTSD for the crime).
There is a recurring character, Lt. Tanaka, who is part of the police force and who Magnum sometimes gets important information and access from, but his characterisation as someone who is easily bribed is not exactly a favourable portrayal of the police either.
Magnum P.I. definitely has its flaws and maybe isn't exactly radical by today's standards, it's not like every episode exposes the corrupt and violent police force or anything like that, but it was definitely not a classic case of copaganda. And as someone who watches a lot of crime shows, I even perceived it as refreshing and unusual because it was very openly critical of institutions like the military and the police.
I will accept my internet fame awards now, thank you
did I do this?
did my out of context screenshot post that went viral on tumblr and beyond cause this scene to become widely shared in all sorts of formats, going viral over and over again??
