The thought petrifies you.

Because he will hurt you. And he will degrade you. And he will strip you of everything that you have. Mind, body, and soul.

To the anon looking for writer/fandom friends, the fact of the matter is that many of them are not looking for new friends because they already have as many as they need. It’s not at all personal! There’s only as many hours in a day, and only as many can be spent in fandom activities, and each friendship needs a minimum of time and effort spent on it.

Which is why, if you comment and/or try to engage with people who are already sort-of well-established in their fandom, BNFs, prolific writers, active discord users, etc, you won’t get much in return because they already have their time&spoons full. Try to look for “smaller” writers, or those who are new to the fandom, or try tiny fandoms where there’s a perpetual shortage of fellow fans to talk to.

And whatever you do, do not approach people you want to befriend as if you’re “their audience.” Telling them you liked their work and what you liked about it is only a small first step! Ask about them next. Do they have HCs about abc? What did they think about the xyz event/arc in canon? How long have they been writing? etc. Speak to them as an equal, not as if to a celebrity.

I am not the same person who was asking for tips, but... how does one make friends with other fanfic writers? I try to comment or like or reblog but ...well, I just do it and nothing happens. Sorry for asking such stupid question, I struggle with making friends in real life too. I just kinda don't get how... to create these connections with other fanfic writers. :/

This isn't a stupid question at all! <3 It's hard to form meaningful, lasting connections. I think a lot of people can relate to this.

My advice is to continue being as active as you can, and to try to not be discouraged if you don't get responses. Life can be unpredictable, and people do not always have the time to respond or interact.

If you find someone specifically that you'd like to get to know better, send them a DM and see if they respond! Again, I wouldn't feel too discouraged if they don't. It can be quite hit or miss.

First off your writing oh my goodness is AMAZING!!! You inspired me to start writing a fanfic of my own! so I was wondering~

Do you have any tips for fellow fanfic writers? I'm currently writing one, and I really want to be able to portray or make my readers feel that pain that you get when you read something emotional, but I always feel like I'm not portraying that enough since I don't really feel it myself from my own writing if that makes sense? That it just feels really frustrating to be able to make it feel good enough when I am writing dialogue or describing a scene haha QwQ

Conveying emotions can be a tough one! I just sat here for a little bit, analyzing my own process. And I realized that I do physically and mentally act out certain scenes. Now, I'm not out here blocking every single movement, but I'll find myself making facial expressions as I read my dialogue, for instance, if I need to find a better way to describe the character's feelings, or even find the appropriate dialogue tag.

Perhaps some general tips, as well:

You do not always need the world's most detailed outline. For some reason "too much detail" hinders the creative process for me. I enjoy the spontaneity of ideas as they come, and I often don't know about some plot points until I'm far into the story.

We write for free :) We might want to treat it like a job sometimes, but I think it's important for your wellbeing to keep that in mind if you start getting anxious about putting out content, or adhering to a schedule.

Make friends <3 Fellow fanfic writers tend to be very supportive if you need more story-specific advice, or if you're even looking for someone to pre-read!
