PSA: UPDATE
The infection in my foot thankfully didn't spread to my blood or bone. No intensive surgery required. However, they did have to cut into my foot this morning and had to take chunks out of the top and bottom, and carved/"shaved" my big toe. I didn't lose it completely but I'll be massively disfigured for the rest of my life, so there's that (which as much as that fucking sucks, is vastly preferable to the alternative). I have a very long road to recovery ahead. Still no word on when I can go home, BUT they moved me out of intensive care today, which is a good sign.

I (the mun) am currently in the hospital with a severe foot infection. Turns out I have Diabetes, which made the infection so much worse and I now may lose my big toe.

Question for the mun. Would you ever consider writing a non-abusive romantic relationship with Brendan? Like specifically if the other mun finds that side of Brendan uncomfortable or triggering?
I'm going to give this a soft "no". Because while I have done a few roleplays before where I portrayed Brendan with a nicer, less violent (more submissive) personality and enjoyed it, I simply prefer Brendan to be himself. And I prefer for him to gradually, naturally earn his way towards a happy relationship with his partners, where he chooses to better himself. He is canonically an abusive, controlling, manipulative, villainous asshole who isn't afraid to murder people to get what he wants, and that's how I play him (I just bumped him up to being a serial killer). If anyone finds his behaviour personally triggering, then he is probably not a character they should be interacting with. (It's their choice if they still want to try roleplaying with him, of course, but please don't ask me to change who he is.)

When he spotted Rei at the kitchen table, Brendan didn't hesitate to grab a chair and drag it over so that he could sit next to her. He made sure to be as noisy as humanly possible about it too, just to be a little bastard. He positioned the chair close enough that he could be right in her face, invading her space enough to be intimidating--or rather trying to be, Rei usually didn't bat an eye at his aggressive behaviour--but not so much that he'd interfere with her dinner. He knew better than that, at least.
"I know damn well that yeh put those fuckin' bugs in my apartment, little madame. Don't play coy with me." He glared daggers at her. Were she anyone else, Brendan would have had his hands around her throat by now or gouged out one of her eyes. But he'd never raised a hand to his sister before and he wasn't about to now either. Not ever. "Look, I know the visit from the cop was my fault. He's jus' some stupid fuckin' rookie tha' needs tae be punished. But I can't punish the lil' fucker for yeh when my home is filled with goddamn crickets!" Just to be rude, he moved to steal a bite of Rei's food, but stopped when he finally noticed the large lizard on the kitchen table. "When the hell did yeh get a dog?"
@byondtheveil
Whelp Brendan was in trouble. Rei knew that Brendan did some... questionable things but Rei always turned the other cheek because... well honestly she didn't care. She loved her brother the way he was. Sure he wasn't always law-abiding, but hell neither was she and he at least had standards. the only rule she had was that no police better show up at her house... not in any official sense anyway. Sure occasionally those Brendan had under her thumb had stopped by on rare occasions to either let her know Brendan was fine or to give her an alibi for whatever the fuck was going on. But nooo some fucker in uniform had to show up at 8am asking her questions. It was easily lied through and she was sure he must be new and would be taught proper protocol but Brendan had to be punished for getting her woken up at 8am on her day off... which was why Brendan's apartment was now home to 300 crickets of various sizes. Seeing as how he was working today by the time he got home this evening they all would have spread out and be hiding in every single nook and cranny.
Brendan foolishly thought that getting a stern talking-to from Rei over the phone in the middle of his busy work day would be the extent of his punishment. Of course he didn't think he deserved anything more than that. The way Brendan saw it, it wasn't his fault that some stupid rookie cop got too curious for their own good and showed up at her door on her day off. Then again, it was Brendan's responsibility to keep the police under control and he hadn't taken the time to properly instruct their newest little shitbag on the rules regarding him and his sister--a mistake he would soon rectify.
He had every intention to teach the bastard proper respect that very same night. A trip down to his basement cellar was certainly in order. That way he could punish them for their rudeness towards his sister as well. A little torture would do them good. Not enough to kill the poor shit, but taking a couple fingers or toes would do; something he could present to Rei as way of apology.
Brendan did not expect to come home that night and have his plans ruined by Rei herself.. and the army of crickets she let loose in his home while he was away.
"BUGS!? REI, ARE YEH FUCKIN' SERIOUS RIGHT NOW!? COME ON!" Brendan yelled at the top of his lungs to ensure that Rei would hear him from her house across the street. Was he angry? Yes. Was he also on the verge of tears? Also yes. Because if there was one thing that he was well and truly afraid of, it was creepy crawlies of any kind. After struggling to get his front door shut and re-locked, and a frantic dance around the yard to shake himself free of the crickets that had jumped on him, Brendan stormed right over to Rei's house and let himself in as he had a habit of doing.
"LITTLE MADAME, YEH HAD BETTER AVE PEST CONTROL ON SPEED DIAL--"

Brendan was surprisingly quiet for once. Rei's question shocked him to the point that he could do nothing but sit there gaping at her for a good solid minute while his brain processed everything she just said. What she was asking for was something he'd wanted for a long time. In his heart, Rei was already family. She pretty much became his sister the very moment they met, when she barged into his apartment wearing her Super Mario pajamas and fuzzy slippers to deliver his mail that the postman had mistakenly given to her. He should have formally adopted her years ago, but Rei was right when she said that family was a touchy subject for him. Maybe he'd been unconsciously been putting it off? Or maybe he'd just been too afraid to ask her himself, out of the unbased fear that she'd suddenly reject and disown him after all these years. Brendan laughed at his own foolishness and leaned over to give Rei a messy kiss on the forehead, leaving behind a small smear of pizza sauce.
"O'course it's okay! Hell, I should ave got off my arse and asked yeh myself ages ago! Not tha' we've ever really needed papers tae let the world know yeh are my sister, but.. it'd be nice tae make it official, finally." He grinned at her and helped himself to another slice of pizza. "I want tae know 'bout those forged papers, though. And 'bout your fake last name, 'cause I never knew 'bout tha' either." It occurred to Brendan then that they'd never really talked much about their pasts and their families before. Which was perfectly fine in his book, but now he was awfully curious. "I won't force yeh tae tell me anythin' tha' yeh don't want. Fuck knows I got my own secrets. Brendan Block isn't my real name either." He paused. "Legally, it is. But I mean.. It's not the one I was born with."
@byondtheveil
Brendan was a man on a mission. He followed Rei around the library at a respectable but not so subtle distance throughout the day, sneaking peeks at her phone screen whenever he could and also taking note of any books she picked up and took interest in while she did her rounds. To anyone who didn't know them his behaviour would certainly come across as being creepy and stalkerish, but really he was just trying to figure out what to get her for Christmas. When it was finally time for lunch, he followed her into the breakroom as well.
"I give up!" He groaned as he plopped down at the lunch table. Someone had ordered pizza and he didn't hesitate to grab a slice. "I've been after yeh all goddamn day and I'm still fuckin' clueless as tae what I should get yeh for Christmas! Just tell me already!"
It had been a fairly normal day... besides Brendan's shitty attempt at stalking her. While this might bother others, Rei was perfectly used to his cat like behavior, and seeing as it was the holiday season she could guess to his motives. Honestly she was having the same conundrum. Brendan was the type of person who if he wanted something he usually got it... which occasionally made gift-giving hard. She did have one idea... but it wasn't one she could exactly spring on him at Christmas...
When he plopped down at her table with pizza she had already finished her second slice. Luckily she had been the one to order said pizza and left it open for others to grab. "...Would you wanna adopt me?" She asked completely derailing his question. "I mean not in a daughter type of way but like I consider you my brother, I'm pretty sure you feel the same, it is not like a name change would be hard, Winters was made up to begin with and all my original paperwork and shit was forged..." While usually this was a topic she kept secret, this was how much she trusted Brendan. " "I mean would that be okay? Me being a Block? I know family is a touchy subject with you so I wasn't exactly gunna do it without talking to you first..."

The cruel bastard in him wanted to laugh. Brendan couldn't help but find Loki's reaction to be greatly amusing. The young man was so easily frightened by him and quick to submit, rightfully fearing punishment otherwise. That made it so much easier for Brendan to control him. He liked Loki like this; he wanted him this way. Making him submissive and obedient was precisely why Brendan had imprisoned the poor man in his basement dungeon for nearly a year.
"Oh I know yeh didn't mean anythin' by it, sweetheart," Brendan crooned in a deceptively sweet voice as he decidedly drew his lips over the scars marking Loki's wrist. It had not gone unnoticed by him that Loki's gaze had drifted to them. "Because if yeh were tryin' tae start a fight with me.. yeh know exactly how tha' will end for yeh." His teeth grazed the sensitive flesh then, hard enough to cause pain but not draw blood. His dark eyes remained fixated on Loki's face as he did this, noting and taking pleasure in the frightened tears he saw there. They both knew that Brendan wouldn't hesitate to take away his privileges and lock him back down in the dark if Loki dared to show signs of aggression or resistance towards him. "But I understand, of course," he continued, his voice a breathless whisper as he drew back at last, his mouth leaving a dark bruise in its wake. "I understand tha' yeh are still adjustin' tae bein' allowed back upstairs. Everythin' is new and it still hurts. Tha' is tae be expected. However, yeh had best learn tae lock those painful memories away before they land yeh back downstairs."
Be honest… When you had me locked in your dungeon for a year, what did you do in the time you weren’t spending with me? Did you carry on as usual or lay low? Were there times where your attention to me interfered with your life up above or vice versa?
send me “be honest…” with a question your muse has been dying to ask mine and they’ll answer truthfully.

Brendan was seated across from Loki at the kitchen table, his dark eyes fixated on the younger man. His expression was blank, unreadable, but there was a feeling in the air about him that suggested his volatile anger may have been kindled by the inquiries posed to him. "Are yeh askin' me if yeh were important enough for me tae rearrange my entire life 'round takin' care o' yeh, back when yeh were still a disobedient little pet?" he asked pointedly. There was a hint of mirth in the question, but his expression remained unchanged. His gaze suddenly moved from Loki's face then, traveling down his body to where the young man's hands were resting on the table. Without warning, he snatched one of them and brought it to his mouth, letting his lips brush against the delicate underside of Loki's wrist in a gesture that was as romantic as it was threatening. "Of course," he said at last. "I stayed as close tae my usual routines as I could, lest I rouse suspicions, but o' course adjustments had tae be made tae ensure yeh were properly looked after by me. I couldnae trust anyone else wit' your care, yeh understand. Does it please yeh tae know tha' yeh were makin' my life difficult back then, when I was still bein' sae cruel tae yeh? Surely it's the least I deserved, hmm?"

(cont. from x)
The forty-two year old Englishman was at a loss, and stared at this hulk of a steel-and-glass coffin, as its owner fretted away beside him. Scratching his head, some hairs falling out of the loose ponytail as he did, his expression just as perplexed on just how to break it to her that her poor vehicle had no chance of being alright for even a fraction of a second. The way she fretted, especially, made his heart ache in sympathy. But before Ashe Kingston could open his mouth to try to be as gentle with the news as possible, a dark haired, slightly younger man rounded the corner with a smile. "Ashe, I have a solution. Remember that old rover that was brought in as a donation? Well, Des and I got it working finally." Turning to face the woman with a bit cheerier expression, "You may be in luck, ma'am. Hold a tic, please." He then looked at his younger brother, Jens, who stood nervously between them. "The bloody thing cranks now?" "Yeah, Des is takin' i' for test runs." Jens replied, as he fidgeted with his shirt hem. "Wha' you think?" Ashe then turned back to the woman, who he hoped would have heard some of it. "Come in the office a tick, please. Got some good and some bad news, but either way you won't be stranded ou' 'ere today." His smile was a touch more hopeful now, as he led the way into the front "office" and hoped he could help the poor woman out by day end at the latest.
Rue had heard some of the conversation between the two men, though not the entirety of it. Not for any sense of politeness in regards to eavesdropping (they were talking of a solution to her car problem after all), but simply because she had gotten lost in own thoughts. She had been trying to think of her own possible solutions to getting around, not just for today but for the next few weeks as well. At least until her bookshop started pulling in money. Walking wasn't an option because it was too far and unsafe as she knew the men who destroyed her car were after her. Unfortunately, she didn't have friends or colleagues she could carpool with, and public transportation was too much for her anxiety to handle.
Just as she was starting to debate whether or not she should go begging around the charity shops for a bike, she was pulled back to reality upon hearing mention of good news. Of course she heard there was bad news to be given to her too, but Rue preferred to focus on the positive. It helped ease her nervousness a bit as she followed the mechanic to his office space as instructed. That little sense of calmness was a much-needed relief too, because Rue had been on the verge of chewing the tips of her hair--a habit she wasn't keen to make public when she could help it.
"Okay, uhh.. Ashe, was it?" She squinted behind her glasses to read the man's nametag to be sure. "Give me the bad news first." A beat. "There's no salvaging my car, is there."
