And Keanu says something really interesting to me on the first John Wick. He comes to me and he goes, “Look, just so you know, little bit of advice, when you edit, once a week, you should see the edit on the big screen.” And I’m like, OK, we’ll try. Later, alone with him, I’m going, “Well, why?” He’s like, “I’m a big-screen actor.” And I had no fucking idea what that meant. I thought it meant a movie star. And he’s like, “No, no, no, no.”
And he started talking to me about non-verbal acting, like gestures, motions. And he’s like, “Look, when you see me on a little monitor and I give this little look, it’s one thing. But when you see it on a 40-foot screen, that look’s going to say a lot. That’s what I want to play this guy as. So just please be aware of it, so when we punch in on the closeups, it’s going to mean something.” And it kind of really clicked for me right there.
I’ve always been fascinated by non-verbal gesture, body language. Keanu would go through and strip his dialogue down. It was like, “No, no, nope. I’m just going to cuddle the puppy.” In the first John Wick, he doesn’t talk for 32 minutes. Try to sell that one to a studio: You have Keanu Reeves and you’re not going to let him talk.

One of the few actors I've seen go out of their way to credit their stunt actors by name in an interview is Keanu Reeves, who makes sure that Jackson Spidell gets his stars whenever he does press.
Thing is, Keanu does all his own action. But Chad does all his stunts. And when Keanu was asked to explain the difference, he was like, "oh, I'll fight ten guys and pretend to shoot a gun and run around and do some acting... And then Jack will get by a car. And then I'll stand up, and do some running and shooting, and then Jack will jump off of a building. And then I'll get up and do some more running."
Funniest way to break down action and stunts, and also really cool to actually credit his stuntman that's been bringing the character to life alongside him.

planning soon on sitting through John Wick movies marathon. Can't decide which one I like most. I still think I love part 3 the most.
Just a huge Keanu Reeves fan up in here.

On an unrelated notice, Frank is too relatable and reminds me of my husband sometimes.
I'm currently surprised how much I can relate to Shameless. I'm even more surprised it took me so long to even it the time of day. Right now I'm on season 6.

Thank goodness the holidays are over. That holiday weight is staring at me in the eye.
My baby is successfully exclusively breast feeding and he seems to be reaching the normal milestones expected for his age. I feel happy and a little bit of grief that my oldest did not reach these milestones, but I am hopeful David will. I am scared he will develop early signs of autism, but I'm trying not to think about it and be hopeful and enjoy the moment.
Although I may feel bleak about the subject of autism from time to time, I do feel o am accepting it and understanding it more. I love Adam and Kenneth despite the quirks that make them unique. I am learning to love Adam as he is once more, it no longer hurts to think about that what ifs and focus more and celebrate the small victories.
Kenneth is doing well too. He makes me smile a lot and is teaching me to be a more patient person.
Being a mom really does change you for the better in my case anyway. I'm more self aware.

The park next to my apartment is finally open and they transformed it into something beautiful. It has a separate area for the children to play at and the other side has a track to run around in and exercise equipment for those trying to work out.

My oldest son, Adam, likes to stim by drumming his fingers on hard surfaces, wooden table top, wall, fridge door, and in doing so, he has cracked all his nails by the constant impact. This kid is something else.

So I had c-section my back on the 22nd of August and now I'm a hot mess of stress and a touch of postpartum trying to and failing to manage a colic newborn that has my breasts leaky and sore and my two older children. I'm dying under all this and I feel very powerless in my situation.
I honestly never had such hardships with my first two sons when they were babies. David, my third child, is proven to be quite the difficult one.
I don't know how to manage this anymore. All the constant crying and unable to get anything done because all he wants is to be held is really having an effect on my mental health.
It's too much. I need help from my relatives to assist but no one wants to help. 😢

So the wolf in the Shrek movies seems to identify as a man, and just happens to wear a pink dress as his outfit of choice. Meanwhile Doris the Ugly Stepsister is definitely a woman while having some masculine features. Then there’s Pinocchio who is unambiguously male (he celebrates becoming a “real boy”) but secretly wears womens’ underwear. And I know this was mainly done for cheap transphobic comedy but like. They’re all basically decent people who are on the heroes’ side and get to live happily ever after, so there’s not reason not to read it completely straight. The only person who shames the wolf for cross-dressing is Fairy Godmother, and she’s a villain so we’re meant to dislike her. Shrek’s extended friend group just contains a lot of genderqueer weirdos who are living their best life and I think that’s great.

The trope where a character overhears something out of context and assumes the worst is usually annoying and bad but I really think it works well in Shrek
We, the audience, know that Fiona is talking about herself but, regardless, she’s calling herself these terrible things because she is an ogre. If Fiona is these things because she is is an ogre what does that make Shrek?
If Fiona says no one could love her because she is an ogre, she is saying that Shrek is also unloveable whether she wants to or not.
Imo the scene is a really good portrayal of how when you talk poorly of yourself or others for having a trait, you’re also talking about every other person who shares that trait; even if you love them or think what you’re saying doesn’t apply to them.

May 2004 - Shrek 2 comes out, fairy godmother covers Holding Out for a Hero.
July 2023 - Barbie comes out, Ryan gosling sings a I'm Just Ken.
Everything else between those two points have been culturally insignificant and are not worth mentioning

Am I a failure for taking a pay cut? I started going back to get my masters in library science this year, and I’ve been trying to find a job in the field. I make $19/hour now in the CSR position I hate. I’ve applied for 5 library jobs that pay ~$18/hour but I haven’t gotten any calls back. I think they want more experience. Now I’m starting to think I should get a roommate so I can take a lower paying ($13.50/hour) more entry level library job. That’s a big pay cut and I feel like I’m throwing away everything I’ve worked for in the 7 years since I joined the workforce and literally starting back at the pay I started at out of college. My hope is I could move to one of the $18/hour positions in a year or two once I have library experience. Is this plan dumb? I need guidance.
You are NOT a failure. How dare you talk about our baby like that! You are a wise and talented young human and we admire you.
If you hate your job, then you absolutely need a solution. Sounds like you can either wait for something with a similar compensation level to open up... or you can take a pay cut soonest. Weigh how much it's worth it to you to get out of this job you hate. If you decide that time is more important right now than money, then take the lower-paying gig. It'll give you another data point on your resume and get you out of a toxic work environment while you look for something that pays more.
Good luck, sweetheart. You're going to be ok.
