It's been a good time, but I'm going to shut this blog down. If you want to see my ttrpg content or what else I'm getting up to, you're very welcome to follow me on my main @glittercleric. This blog stays up as an archive, but won't be getting new posts.
[ID: A total of two tweets from Matthew Mercer @.matthewmercer which together read: “Happiest of Holidays and Merry Christmas to you all! To celebrate, let me share this clip my brother recently found from many years ago. (And excuse my brain transposing some letters. I blame reading a lot of E G M growing up). The answer to if I’ve “always been this awkward”? Yes.” There’s a video attached to the first tweet of a teenaged Matthew unwrapping two holiday gifts. The first is a copy of an Advanced D&D Dungeon Master’s Guide (which he mistakenly calls a D G M instead of a D M G) and the second is the Monstrous Manual of the same edition. /end ID]

Drips of opaque white ascend through deep blue and slightly burnt neon pink resins. Reminds me of a neon-lit arcade. KEEP PLAYING! GET THAT HIGH SCORE!

I really want the Mighty Nein animated series to start with the fight with Lorenzo. Zoom in on Molly and freeze-frame, and he starts narrating. "I'm sure you're wondering how I got here. To answer that, we need to start at the beginning."
Smash-cut to Mollymauk waking up in the snow. "Too far back! Too far back! Closer to the middle, maybe."
Then the Nestled Nook. He's giving Jester a tarot reading while he narrates about meeting them and the beginnings of their adventure.
End of the season, back to the fight with Lorenzo. "So that's how we got here. And these people, these assholes, had finally become the family I'd always been searching for. And no one was going to keep me fr-"
Dies mid narration. Season close. 1000 points emotional damage.

Writing a DnD campaign is fun because you have to write knowing 90% of your story will be whatever random bullshit (affectionate) the players/dice decide to do, so you just have to write a convincing enough outline to bs your way into sounding like you totally planned this out and you aren't just panicking the whole time.
Coming up with puzzles for my players has gotta be one of the hardest parts of TTRPG prep. Either the answer will be so glaringly obvious that they'll figure it out immediately or they're going to spend 5 hours talking about it and still get it completely wrong and there's literally no way to know beforehand
