Y'all, the world is sleeping on what NASA just pulled off with Voyager 1
The probe has been sending gibberish science data back to Earth, and scientists feared it was just the probe finally dying. You know, after working for 50 GODDAMN YEARS and LEAVING THE GODDAMN SOLAR SYSTEM and STILL CHURNING OUT GODDAMN DATA.
So they analyzed the gibberish and realized that in it was a total readout of EVERYTHING ON THE PROBE. Data, the programming, hardware specs and status, everything. They realized that one of the chips was malfunctioning.
So what do you do when your probe is 22 Billion km away and needs a fix? Why, you just REPROGRAM THAT ENTIRE GODDAMN THING. Told it to avoid the bad chip, store the data elsewhere.
Sent the new code on April 18th. Got a response on April 20th - yeah, it's so far away that it took that long just to transmit.
And the probe is working again.
From a programmer's perspective, that may be the most fucking impressive thing I have ever heard.
when people say "oh that was only four months ago" and i went on nine journeys since then. suffered losses and withstood trials that would drive a saner person mad and got lost in the same maze enough times i go there now to rest for a bit. what do you mean it was only january i would pass by january me in the street as if id never known who that is. time is a personal topic really somet in my dna must be parsing these numbers differently
I had a dream once that Spamton from deltarune got caught in one of Snatcher from a Hat in Time's traps, and they both ended up very aggressively trying to wrap the other up in a deal/contract
you guys know that you are allowed to like characters who suck in canon right? you guys know that you don鈥檛 have to ignore the worse parts of a characters to like them right? YOU GUYS KNOW THAT LIKING A SHITTY CHARACTER AS THEY ARE DOESN鈥橳 MEAN THAT YOU CONDONE THEIR BEHAVIOUR RIGHT????? RIGHT???? YOU GUYS KNOW THAG YOU CAN JUST ENJOY FICTION RIGHT?????
It's unhinged to assume that someone's taste in fiction equates to what they believe is moral or good, or is something they want to see or experience in real life.
That is a bonkers assumption to make.
I'm tired of humoring people with long arguments about it when the simple fact is it is a totally fucking absurd reach to accuse someone who enjoys something in fiction of being in favor of it in real life.
I'm tired of pretending like this is a legitimate position to hold-- that they should be afraid of fiction's dire influence on a reader's moral decay or that it's a sign of what the author secretly wants for realsies in real life.
