When A Great Man Has Fallen (AO3)
@dagcupweek Day Five | Dragons
Hiccup and Toothless deal with the aftermath of Stoick’s death. Luckily Dagur and Sleuther are there to help.
Out of all the enemies Hiccup had made throughout the years, Dagur the Deranged was the one he had never seen redeeming himself until it happened. He hasn’t expected it in the slightest though his obsession with Hiccup was obvious as it could be. Perhaps it should have been expected. Still, it surprised him.
He remembered that day, over a year ago now, when Dagur had truly proven himself. He’d saved them, both of them, and when Hiccup was in trouble he had run back into the cave he’d helped them find and begged Toothless to trust him.
The loud footsteps were what had woken Toothless up. He saw a breathless, worried Dagur.
“You gotta help me Tee,” he said as he scrambled for one of the weapons on the walls.
Toothless watched him with careful eyes, making sure he didn’t miss a single breath the man took.
Dagur tucked one of the swords away and turned towards Toothless. “Hiccup,” he managed to say through his panting, “he’s in trouble. You’ve gotta help me save him, Toothless.”
That was the day Toothless trusted Dagur enough to save Hiccup. Over time he proved himself to be worthy of much more trust than Toothless had originally thought he could be given. Granted if a single hair on his body could be trusted than that would give him more trust than Toothless once thought he could ever deserve.
Dagur had changed so much in the span of four, bearing five, years. He had fought his way into Toothless’s good graces. That is the only reason he let Dagur in the house when he came by.
He bowed his head in respect and thanks. Toothless did the same. With Valka still holding the door open, Toothless walked outside with her following him. The door shut behind them and Toothless placed his trust into Dagur’s hands.
Sleuther was waiting outside for them. He, too, bowed his head as a way to pay his respects.
Toothless curled up by the door as a guardian. His thoughts began to go where they’d been going for the past two weeks, back to that day. Back to a mad man who killed without conscious or mercy, a fight between two great beings, an alpha’s command he could not resist, the haze clearing, Stoick covered in ice because of him, because he couldn’t fight a command. It was his fault.
What made him feel even more guilt was in ways he was thankful. He was thankful it was Stoick and not Hiccup. He didn’t know what he’d do without him. His life before Hiccup almost glazed. It was as though it was covered in a fog but he knew he wasn’t half as happy without Hiccup as he was with him.
Still, because of his mistakes, because he wasn’t strong enough, Hiccup was hurting and. . . and so was he. He didn’t like to think of that part. He didn’t like to think of his own pain. It felt selfish when he wasn’t the one who lost a father but. . . he missed him terribly.
He felt a light hit to his back. He snapped at Sleuther who looked unbothered by the action and simply nested to lay on the ground beside him. His tails clicking and clacking as he wrapped they around each other over and over again.
“Out of all the people in the Archipelago, I would have guessed Oswald before I guessed Stoick,” Valka said aloud, catching the attention of both dragons.
She sat on the other side of the door. She stared off into the distance with her head rested against the outer wall of the hut. Her greying hair not pulled back into several large braids but instead left loose, hanging freely save for two small braids at the front of her head. The expression she wore, Toothless could only describe as wistful.
“He was always far more agreeable than Stoick,” she said.
The faintest hint of a smile on her lips while tears began to well up in her eyes though they didn’t fall. She let out a sigh and closed her eyes. She leaned further against the hut.
“I remember when Dagur first met Hiccup. He’d been so small and so young, barely past the age of a babe. He’d been fascinated by how there was someone smaller than him. He crawled up into the bed with me so he could put his hands on Hiccup and help me hold him. Now he’s in his twenties and covered in battle scars but so is Hiccup.” She sighed again, “Where did the time go?”
Sleuther and Toothless shared a glance before they both got up and walked over to her. Toothless put his head in her lap while Sleuther provided a steady weight at Toothless’s side.
They didn’t go in until nightfall when an argument between Dagur and Hiccup broke out that they could all hear. They rushed in and Hiccup was trying to immerse himself in building plans. Dagur was trying to stop him.
“I need to get these done, Dagur,” Hiccup told him in a raised voice.
Dagur looked at him, so clearly unamused. “Hiccup, you are a horrible liar.”
Hiccup glared at him and silence followed it as they locked eyes in a staring contest Hiccup didn’t win. “I have to get this done by the end of the week,” Hiccup said.
“And it’s Monday,” Dagur told him. “You need sleep.” Hiccup continued to glare at him and Dagur sighed. “Fine. We’ll do this the hard way.”
Hiccup barely had time to react before Dagur had him thrown over his shoulder. As Hiccup banged against his back and struggled against his hold, Dagur turned to Valka and bid her a goodnight. She had a bemused smile on her lips as she watched him carry Hiccup upstairs with Toothless trailing behind them.
Dagur gently placed Hiccup on the bed and he immediately tried to bolt towards the door which Toothless shut with his tail.
“Really, bud?” Hiccup asked.
Toothless answered by making a noise resembling a rumbling laugh.
Dagur walked up behind Hiccup and placed a kiss to his shoulder. “We just want you to take care of yourself,” he said.
“I do take care of myself,” Hiccup said, not fighting as Dagur moved to pull his shirt up over his head but not exactly helping either.
Dagur placed another kiss against Hiccup’s skin but this time it was on his cheek, just beneath the bags under his eyes. “I know you try.”
He led Hiccup to the bed and took off his prosthetic for him. He then did the same with Toothless’s. He gave a thankful coo and was met with a small pat on the head.
Toothless didn’t lay down until he saw Dagur climb into the bed and curl around Hiccup. Only after Hiccup and Dagur were asleep under the blankets did Toothless go to sleep himself, trusting Dagur to be there for Hiccup when the nightmares came and they did and Dagur was there to hold Hiccup and gently shush him back into sleep.

I had an idea for this drawing and realised it would be suitable for the first prompt deranged of the Dagcup Week 2022. @dagcupweek
It's from an AU where Dagur is a vampire and Hiccup is a half vampire who lives more like a human and only drinks animal blood. Dagur wants to train Hiccup to be a proper vampire who hunts, drinks human blood, is active at night, ect. Over time, they become a couple and Hiccup develops an addiction to human blood, which in many cases makes him go... well... deranged.
Content warning: nudity, blood (and I mean a lot of blood)
Tumblr media
this is what happens when I don't draw for Instagram and draw for myself instead
The idea of Dagur ripping a bag of human blood and pouring it over Hiccup, then over himself, activating their hunting instincts and the two of them going at each other aggressively bc of it is... Hot to say the least. Also Hiccup being the one acting possessive is just mhmm~

Dagcup Week Day 2
@dagcupweek
Prompt: peace
Hiccup and Dagur together as older men. Was going to put their dragons in here too but couldn’t find the space. (Yes, I know canonically Dagur is shorter than Hiccup. Just imagine Dagur standing on his toes when he finds out he’s getting a portrait done with his husband. Or, according to @lashlamb13, he's wearing heels.)

Too Nice (AO3)
@dagcupweek Day One | Deranged
Warning: NonCon Elements
Hiccup gets kidnapped by Dagur. Dagur thinks he’s too nice to escape.
Hiccup liked to think he was a calm person. He thought things through, or he tried to. He preferred to talk things out than use a sword. He would choose a shield over a sword any day and not just because of the dragon training classes he’d been forced to take. He would choose it because he would rather protect than attack.
Most of the time.
This was not one of those times. This was a time where he wished he had taken more sword classes but he was surprisingly doing well. He had been able to injure three guards and a forceful hit to the head with the butt of his sword caused one to fall unconscious.
He took a moment to breathe. The beginning of guilt began to creep its way into his head but he shook it away. Now was not the time to deal with his feelings. Now he needed to find Toothless.
He began to run down the hall but stopped when he heard slow clapping. “Hiccup, Hiccup, Hiccup,” Dagur said. He took a step each time he said Hiccup’s name. “I have to admit. I wasn’t sure you had it in you but I’m glad you do. It’s nice to know that out of everyone in the world I’m one of the first to bring out such a deranged instinct out of the runt, Hiccup Haddock.”
Hiccup’s jaw clenched and he pointed the sword towards Dagur. “Where is Toothless?” he gritted out.
“Well, he’s not dead.” Dagur used a finger to redirect the sword away from him but Hiccup moved it back to its original place. Dagur smiled. “Oh, Hiccup, you may be able to cut down strangers but me? No, no, no. We have a history. I’m not going away so easily.”
Then, faster than Hiccup could process, Dagur moved forward. His hand gripped Hiccup’s wrist and his thumb pressed down. Hiccup’s grasp on the sword was dismantled. It clattered against the floor.
Dagur used his grip around Hiccup’s wrist to pull him closer. He tilted Hiccup’s chin so he was forced to look at him.
“You couldn’t kill strangers. You could only knock them out or injure them just enough they couldn’t hurt you. Me? You won’t hurt me, not really, not in anyway that matters. No,” Dagur leaned close to Hiccup’s ear, his voice lowered to a deep whisper, “you’re too good for that.”
Hiccup glared at him as he pulled away but Dagur didn’t relent. Rather than that, he smiled and gave Hiccup a look he couldn’t place a name to. However, it didn’t matter. It made him deeply uncomfortable.
“Always the little good boy.” Dagur let go of one hand and used it to cup Hiccup’s face. His thumb began to trail down his face starting at his temple. “You have no idea what my father would have done to have a son like you, weak, decent,” his voice started out hard but grew softer.
His thumb brushed over Hiccup’s lips. Hiccup tried to jerk his head away but Dagur quickly moved to grip his chin. A firm grip on his face still, Dagur moved his thumb back to its place on Hiccup’s lips and he was forced to accept it, the feeling of Dagur’s rough fingertips caressing his lips.
Dagur’s voice hardened again, “Innocent.”
He pressed his thumb down. Hiccup tried to close his lips in a tight line but still, Dagur managed to breach his finger into Hiccup’s mouth. He thought for a moment that he should bite Dagur’s finger but the thought passed quickly. He wasn’t looking to go home covered in bruises because he would go home.
“Innocent as can be,” Dagur said in a slightly sing-song tune. He forced Hiccup’s mouth open fully, thumb pressing against the roof of his mouth to do so. “But don’t worry, I plan to change that last one soon.”
Hiccup felt fear make its way through his body. His blood seemed to freeze over as his heart stopped. No. No, Dagur wouldn’t? Would he?
Then again, he was Dagur. Dagur who had tied him to a tree when he was eight and left him there for hours. Dagur who had tried to drown him when he was twelve. Dagur who had started a war because he was wrong. Hiccup realized he never knew what Dagur would do, not really. He didn’t know Dagur as well as he wished he did because knowing Dagur might make his unpredictable movements easier to guess. Hiccup could only hope he wouldn’t do things that he didn’t want him to do. He could never really know.
Dagur did.
He pressed his lips forcefully against Hiccup’s and Hiccup froze. Then he. . . Then he remembered or more he saw Dagur’s sword which was strapped to his back. Maybe Hiccup could use this to his advantage.
He kissed back but didn’t close his eyes like Dagur had. Dagur made a noise of surprise and Hiccup reached with his free hand. He placed it on Dagur’s neck. Then he slid it down to his shoulder. Finally he was able to grab the hilt of Dagur’s sword.
In quick, mostly uncalculated, movements Hiccup drew the sword. He drew it and slashed at Dagur before he could react. He hit Dagur’s face and he staggered back, holding the wound. Hiccup turned and ran. He ran as fast as he could. His heart thumped harder and harder with each time his foot hit the ground.
He ran faster when he heard the beginnings of Dagur’s manic laughter followed by an amused voice but words laced with threats, “Oh, Hiccup, you’re going to regret that.”
