Feeling a lot of feelings about how Hadestown doesn't present the story as "Orpheus turned around and everything fell apart and there was nothing anyone could do to fix it" and instead presents a story that says "he turned around, he doubted, he failed, but if we keep telling his story maybe one day Orpheus won't" and it's not just about Orpheus as a single character, it's a bout every Orpheus, everyone who runs up against a system they can't change and fails and everyone who sees that failure and gets back up and says "maybe I can change it now" and tries again. That Orpheus failed isn't the takeaway of the story. The takeaway is that one day he might succeed.

doing some thinking about health and mental health and grief and all those things one thinks about from time to time, and you know, one thing i really can't escape is that the absolute worst thing i can ever do for my own mental health is look at a thing and always assume bad intention. or a lack of care. or any other thing that suggests a conscious negativity. minor inconveniences and petty tribulations aren't evil, they're just the world being differently shaped. yes there are many bad things, structurally and socially, but... not everything is. and for every shite person in a space, there are just as many people doing good things, trying to make the world better, performing tiny acts of kindness and just generally being decent. in fact, i'd say there are more of them than there aren't.

i had a para here explaining why i have been thinking about this, but actually i don't need to explain it or owe an explanation for it. the conclusion is i'm getting tired out from people assuming the worst of everything and everyone all of the time, so that is basically where i'm at. i'm tired of the choice of activity being to tear down instead of build up.

i'm gonna try, i think, to figure out how to make this into a workable boundary. i want to uplift and be uplifted. this isn't to say i won't talk about the hard stuff, the heavy stuff. i welcome being a support to my friends. but i want to start all my days from a place of believing that the world has a core that is good and our job is to find it over and over and over.
