The perception of Taiwan as now being a free democracy is so obviously farcical, particularly when we look into the continued persecution of indigenous people. From an interview with NPR, local indigenous people said the following:
CHANG: Indigenous peoples say one form of ongoing oppression is Taiwan's conservation laws, which restrict their hunting. Hunting is central to the Truku way of life. And Ciwang explains that hunting, to them, is about much more than killing animals for meat. It's a spiritual practice, a communion with ancestors. And, she says, ecological balance is already built into their concept of hunting.
TEYRA: Hunting in our language is thasamma. Thasamma means living with animals. We need to coexist with them together in order to maintain our daily life and in order to have the next generations. So I feel like that's very important for our psychological and spiritual health.

The 1960s in India saw a new wave of educated youth from Dalit community, who thrived on poetry, prose, and art as a passive means of getting their message across. Raja Dhale, one of the founding members of the Dalit Panthers wrote in his poem Eka Panther Che Manogat: “Each man is the last one.  If he sees that clearly, why should he not fight each battle as if it is the last one I don’t understand it—because the end is decided. Either the battle will come to an end Or we will die.  If death is certain, why shouldn’t  the battle for equality be certain?”
And the Dalit Panther Roared Again: A Dreamer’s Portrait of the Anti-Caste Movement in India, Siddhesh Gautam

On this day, 29 May 1972 the Dalit Panthers were formed in Mumbai, India. Modelled on the US Black Panthers the Dalit Panthers was formed to combat caste discrimination. Dalit refers to members of lower castes in India (sometimes referred to as “untouchables”). The Dalit Panthers advocated for both the abolition of the caste system as well as of class society. The organisation also advocated for women’s rights, health women’s study circles, and intervened to support Dalit women experiencing abuse and assault. Anyways, calling shoplifting “urban foraging” is very funny, a useful euphemism, should be done more often.

All the tarp you see are human bodies. How many of those tarp covered bodies didn't make it to see their 18th birthday? How many didn't get to see the 1st birthday of their child? How many didn't get to celebrate retirement? These are human lives being ripped away at an alarming rate.
There should be no reason you can't step outside without seeing a decomposing child, mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, uncle, aunt, brother, sister, friend, or lover.
They had lives and yet they are buried next to the sidewalk? Would you be okay with your loved one being buried next to the sidewalk? No. No you wouldn't.
