I want people to understand. Sitting up hurts. Because of my hypermobility, weak core muscles and chronic fatigue, sitting up itself is exhausting and hurts. Do people realize how fucking weird and almost dehumanizing it is to have something as simple as sitting up hurt? Like something that people need and find so easy is utterly exhausting and painful to me. I know a lot of my chronically ill friends go through this. Sitting up just hurts!!

So the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) (which the gov't passed last year, Bill C-22), which was passed with the intent of "lifting people with disabilities out of poverty," finally got funded in the budget that was released today - and it's such fucking bullshit.

It's a maximum amount of $200/month ($2400/year)

You have to be approved for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) to be eligible - something that advocates were specifically saying should not happen because it's so fucking difficult to get on. The CDB should be barrier-free.

Doesn't start until July 2025

It's such fucking bullshit. $200 a month? And not for another fucking year? Not to mention the DTC requirement? Are you fucking kidding me?? I'm so mad.

This CBC article about it can contains this quote - "Khedr estimates that roughly 1.6 million Canadians with disabilities are living below the poverty line. But Tuesday's budget says only 600,000 would be eligible for the new national benefit." This is because of the DTC requirement. Jesus Christ.

Anyway, Canadian folks, please for the love of god contact your MPs and tell them how awful this is. It needs to be more money, it needs to be enough to actually have an impact, and it needs to not require DTC eligibility.

Disability hearing went weird today. They had an "expert" cardiologist who completely ignored my diagnoses and then proceeded to tell the judge he thought I had somatic symptom disorder.

I was literally sobbing by the end of his testimony and the judge practically booted him from the call as soon as was possible. I now have a psychological evaluation sometime in the next month.

My lawyer said the judge appeared to not be happy with the way the "expert" treated me and my health issues and that the so called "expert" had been super unprofessional and that all and all it might end up helping my case still. But damn talk about traumatizing as fuck. My friend had to calm me down after all was said and done, I was crying so hard.

My cardiac nurse asking me for the answers to my functional capacity evaluation form is kind of hilarious but also kind of slammed home how disabled I actually am because damn I totally forgot my more severe pots episodes leave me confused and slow to respond
