to be fair, Lex wasn’t overly enthusiastic about her assignment to the haunted house. so when she saw someone setting up what looked like a medical booth it obviously drew her attention and she made her way over to check it out. chuckling at the other woman’s words she shook her head even if she wouldn’t see it. “no, not asking for medical attention,” Alexandra started, hands up in a gesture of mock surrender. “I’m taking the boards in a few months for my nursing degree, so the medical supplies drew me in.” she seemed incredibly organized as she studied the table, a trait that Lex appreciated in someone else. “I’m hoping this is just a precaution and they don’t think there will actually be the need for health services,” she stated somewhat nervously.
ellie’s features softened as the other spoke, clasping her clipboard to her chest. the brunette remembered the entry exams well, the all nighters she spent studying, words jumbling in her brain, blurred through tired eyes. true, it was not so long ago, but she did not envy anyone in that present position of stress. ‘nervous?’ she asked casually, a warm smirk painting her lips. ‘yeah me too but you know what kids are like. i didn’t volunteer last year,’ (or this year for that matter), ‘but this other guy who did told me one of the workers accidentally nailed a wooden plank to their hand.’

closed starter for @ultrabiitchin / ‘no it’s not broken. can you wiggle your fingers for me? good. can you stretch out your arm? good. okay kid, seriously it’s not broken.’ it was at least the tenth time the student doctor had had that conversation with an under ten year old since her shift started. truthfully ellie had planned to spend most of halloween alone at home eating pumpkin pie, but when she had taken the call from the hospital saying they needed her, her heart jumped with the joy of adult responsibility---- volunteer medic for the town halloween carnival was not what she had imagined. mercifully she caught the eyes of a passer by, and though she couldn’t tell yet who it was, it was an excuse all the same. ‘sorry kid, that person looks like they’ve got a medical emergency. here’s a lolly-pop, enjoy your evening, whatever.’ then she was gone, fluttering from the tent, trainers pushed against the dried muddy ground as she caught up with the person.

closed starter for @lexramirez / drawing the short straw wasn’t the half of it. there was literally no place on earth ellie would want to be less than setting up a medic stand at the halloween carnival. firstly, outside was dirty, secondly sticky candy filled children were dirty, thirdly, there was a wax house and those figures were creepy, and sticky, and gross. irritably, ellie pulled on her vinyl gloves and began checking off her list of items, fingers rifling through her box of bandages and medic tape and everything else she had been forced to pack for the event. ‘before you ask, it’s only five so i’m not officially on shift yet.’ she said without even looking up at the person approaching.

it was a scene from the very start and just before bexley could even call out to the the other to warn them the ball of goo was being splattered in every direction. this was more funny to bexley who laughed it off as the kids ran away. “oh… it’s just a little fake blood.” she stated looking down at her leg and shook it off. “you’re lucky, really. the stuff could have stained and then you’d really be in trouble. but this should come out. besides the point of the fun is tricks and treats, i think you just lost out this time.”
being the scaredy-cat she was (especially around this time of year) ellie momentarily shot out of her skin at the sound of bex’s voice. her laughter was not appreciated, though the blood soaked brunette had other things to occupy herself with than poor humour. ‘just a little fake blood?’ she echoed, unable to contain the irritation in her tone. ‘the stuff could have stained?’ panicked eyes darted downwards, and the truth was confirmed. ‘I just got this dry cleaned! quick check, is there any in my hair? oh god it’s in my mouth! what if I swallow it?! who knows what gross chemicals they put in those things!?!’ quickly she began to hyperventilate, subconsciously reaching for the inhaler she had not carried for almost ten years. ‘god just- do you have a tissue or something? I have to get this off me before my shift starts.’

open starter / ‘halloween literally has to be the worst time of year.’ ellie muttered to herself, visibly (and in a manner some might consider theatrical) disgusted as she wiped the fake blood spatter from her face, wishing she had some gloves or tissue to encase her hand in before touching the cold blobby liquid dripping down her angry features. did children not realise how not funny it was to throw home made fake blood bombs at people? especially in the face? blood was dirty, and gross and full of disease. there was a reason doctors wore gloves while taking blood, there was a reason for all those health restrictions. ‘IDIOTS!’ she called out, but the criminals were long gone into the night, laughing in the distance as they left ellie to roll her eyes irritably at the situation.
