You should only write in present tense with extreme caution.

not because it's bad or anything but because if you do it even once you're going to be editing the bits where you shifted tenses out of your writing for the rest of your life

#i think I occasionally have present-tense errors when I'm mostly a past-tense writer #and sometimes I still fail to catch the tense switch #present tense tends to only be in dialogue for me #should experiment with a present tense fix or something

Looking at the Temple Ship design, it would have been neat to have a psionic enemy that used psionic-sensitive metal as part of its arsenal. Though I know some would be loathe to deal with another shield-type enemy.

More ideas for the experimental Avatar varients/prototypes I'll be putting into my fic.

god I fuckign love ocs. my characters. my friend's characters. the characters of mutuals ive never spoken to. the characters of artists ive followed and maybe spoken to a little more. the characters of complete strangers I see in passing and think "aw that's cool". if you have ten fans I am one if you have one fan it is me etc etc. I love you

Past brain: Ha, ha, silly little vampire AU with some angst and acceptance.

Now brain: Do you realize the biological implications of the rapid changes those nanomachines brought to his system??? The sudden diet change?? The alien and human proteins, vitamins, poisons, etc.??? The fact that a single does would not have been enough to rewrite his entire genome and then it wasn’t tailored for his system??? He should be dead 10x over! You need to fix that. Here’s some ideas, includes that new faction and Psionic Void shenanigans. Also gives a branch into that eventual Templar meeting fic with this Zhang you want to do.

it’s just hard not to think about the fact that in 1915, JRR Tolkien went to war not with but certainly in the same army and many of the same battles as his 3 best school friends, all nicely upper class young men who had never known much loss, and only he and one other came back alive - and a couple decades later, he wrote a book in which 3 nicely upper class young men (and one very excellent gardener) who have never known much loss go to war together, or at least they start out together, and they all come home alive. (Though one cannot bear it, and does not stay.)

Writing advice from my uni teachers:

If your dialog feels flat, rewrite the scene pretending the characters cannot at any cost say exactly what they mean. No one says “I’m mad” but they can say it in 100 other ways.

Wrote a chapter but you dislike it? Rewrite it again from memory. That way you’re only remembering the main parts and can fill in extra details. My teacher who was a playwright literally writes every single script twice because of this.

Don’t overuse metaphors, or they lose their potency. Limit yourself.

Before you write your novel, write a page of anything from your characters POV so you can get their voice right. Do this for every main character introduced.

Otto here for a quick answer to off-site anon asks that more like pestering ants since that’s a subject she don’t like touching much. Know a majority is y’all folk and we’ve done tapped the FAQ sign a bunch. For the non-malicious asks, they’ll get answer in time of the other blog.

In short, hon don’t care for popular ship names. Never really has and won’t use ‘em tags. Simple as.

Spelling mistakes sneaking back in after I’ve read over things like 10 times and run it through 3 different spellcheck programs
