PSA: the guardian is not working on a hit piece on diy hrt, and claims they are are misinformation
on the 18th, this post appeared on 4chan's /lgbt/ (slurs in thread: link). a screenshot was posted to reddit, then to tumblr. you've probably seen it:
Tumblr media
today, the 23rd, another screenshot popped up on various discord servers, then was reposted variously to twitter. it shows a supposed email from guardian journalist and notorious TERF Susanna Rustin, claiming as the original 4chan post does.
Tumblr media
it's now been shared around, and it's with good intentions. the message is useful: don't share your personal information or medical data with journalists, especially ones that happen to be TERFs.
but the post does this through misinformation and fearmongering. i'm still waiting on my response by email from Rustin, but she's reiterated twice (once, twice) that she did not write the email and is not working on such a story. on the 19th, i talked to other guardian newsroom journalists, who said they also did not know of a story's existence.
the moral of the story: this is misinformation, and it's dangerous. it spreads a fine message here, but it does it through spreading anxiety and terror.
you can follow along with this post on my parallel thread on twitter. also calling on @wakewithgiggli to delete their original post!

well it's definitely true of the opposite
fascinatingly the myofascial muscle pain i feel does not respond well, if at all, to the opiate medication i was given. it really was like nothing had happened, because it took care of the surgery pain just fine, it was just normal aches.
i dont really know what to make of that information.

I WANT TO EMPHASIZE i am not currently in much pain OR nausea!!! i am medicated and cozy on my porch on a sunny spring day and frankly having a pleasant recovery
just had surgery, and it's interesting how (for me, idk how widespread this is) after a certain point pain stops being pain and starts being chills and nausea. it feels much worse than the pain, don't get me wrong, but i can say with confidence that it doesn't hurt.

I regret to inform you that Discord's new Terms of Service includes an arbitration clause. You can find it here https://discord.com/terms/#16. This clause includes an opt-out, which I have transcribed here:
You can decline this agreement to arbitrate by emailing an opt-out notice to [email protected] within 30 days of April 15, 2024 or when you first register your Discord account, whichever is later; otherwise, you shall be bound to arbitrate disputes in accordance with the terms of these paragraphs. If you opt out of these arbitration provisions, Discord also will not be bound by them.
These clauses are underhanded ways that corporations seek to deprive you of your right to participate in class-action lawsuits and your right to a jury trial. (This does only apply to us users ,other people still spread the word though )

@hyratel well i cant say anything neurologically, but i can tell you what it does musculoskeletally!
basically, the neutral position of your trunk (back, abdomen) is straight up and down. in order to either bend backwards or, in most ppl's cases, bend forwards, you need to activate your core muscles to pull your body into a slouch.
this lengthens your back muscles into a stretch, which isn't a bad thing, but then you go on to tell your stretched out back muscles to hold you up so you don't fall flat on your face. this means that when you're slouching, you are actively using muscles.
when you slouch too much, or for too long (generally 30+ min), you are then overexerting the muscles. most people have been doing this on and off for years before they learn or realize that it isn't good, because of the aforementioned muscles exertion.
because it's a bad habit that's been going on for a long time, when they go to sit up straight, the muscles in the core have become locked up (known as muscle knots, or trigger points). these knots then shorten the length of the muscle (like if you were to tie real knots in a string) and keep it clenched.
that means when the back muscles pull you upright into a sitting position, they can't pull you up all the way and therefore must still work to hold you upright. these are the same back muscles that are tired from holding your body up from slouching, now doing an action that they're not used to and having to work against the front of the body to maintain it.
by massaging the front of the body, below the solar plexus but this includes the length of your abdominal muscles as well as your chest muscles, you help release the trigger points so you can properly lengthen your core muscles, allowing you to obtain an upright posture with less pain.
if you keep on massaging your core muscles and focus your stretches there, you should have a much easier time learning to sit straight again!
by the way if standing or sitting up straight causes pain in ur back, try massaging the soft area beneath your solar plexus
be gentle though because sometimes it will be truly, profoundly painful to touch. just do your best to relax and breathe through it. i promise the relief will be immediate.

who are the fucking people making supposed cat gates. have they ever met a fucking cat before. do you think 41 inches is enough to keep even the least motivated cat from leaping over? my 9 year old lazy ass stubby legged molly leaps 41 inches for breakfast, god forbid the one who damaged a wall leaping over a bedframe door gate, or the asshole hellbent on getting outside, and i haven't even brought in 2 year old legs mcgee over there who would use 41 inches recreationally. and you're telling me that 90% of the CaT gAtEs yallre "making" don't get THAT tall. is this a fucking joke to you.
