End of April Update

after the creation of this blog at the beginning of April, everything started happening

My dog, Zelda, passed away on the 14th which was really rough, but we're moving forward best we can

I got sick on the 22nd through to the end of April because I couldn't afford to take a break, and had to take most of my finals while high on DayQuil, so that was rough.

On the upside though, writing is going alright! (Also playlists)

I got through the first draft of the Prologue, and am now working through some coding hiccups before I can move forward because Twine exists to destroy my will to live

started writing part of the draft of chapter 1, it's gonna be a long one, with a lot of character interactions as well as investigating.

Finished the detailed outlines for chapters 1-5, the story is growing beyond my control like kudzu. (I do have an outline for the whole story but there are a lot of things that need to happen)

The first person you meet once you arrive on the Surface, you and Seven have a unique bond. He’s got a reputation in the slums and Neon for being great at parties, but his friendliness can easily be read as something more.

Is it something more? Further observations will have to be made…

THE SURVIVOR

Saturn. 23, Lawful Evil. Bartender.

“Keep your head down, and you’ll survive.”

The quiet bartender has a curious perspective on things. He seems to have no problem with the HIVE members patrolling his bar, even serving them drinks like they’re normal customers, despite their heavy armor and edges that are too sharp to be humane.

He also doesn’t seem to be particularly interested in you in the slightest. Why’s that?

THE DIPLOMAT

“Is it better to live in quiet solitude, your voice stripped and taken—or would you rather have died, knowing your voice was the loudest amongst them all?”

Chain. 23, alignment unclear. Current occupation unknown.

He’s someone to keep an eye out for. While he hasn’t practiced his craft in years, he may still prove to be dangerous. Just as friendly as Seven, but far more difficult to truly befriend.

Obtain new information as soon as possible…

Orion. 25, Lawful Neutral. HIVE operative.

The HIVE member patrolling Saturn’s bar. Part of something greater than he is, but he’s a part of it, regardless. Keep him around…

Argos: Neutral Good. Age unknown. The deity whose spear you brandished, after his passing. He was a good man, but the fact only makes your sins rest heavier in your heart.

Teacher: True Neutral. Around ~200 years old. The chasm-dwelling shadow who taught you all you know of the Chasm and its residents.

As I am primarily an author (as in I literally have done nothing else with my life) I am new to coding (I took ONE coding club in fourth grade) and am trying to write out and perfect a chapter before converting it into typical IF form.

Once I manage to get things situated, I’ll started to code. I’m currently almost done writing chapter 4, so I’ll start working on coding once I finish it.

💤 Sleeping sign

Cameron: Heavy sleeper, they will not wake up for anything, though they will wake other people up when they start snoring and mumbling in their sleep.

Ollie: very light sleeper and an insomniac. They will often spend the nights they can't sleep going down research rabbit holes, and when they do sleep, they will often wake up, take 15 minutes, and then fall back asleep.

Rose/Rory: Light sleeper. They always need some kind of noise going in the background while they sleep, white noise, music, or conversation. Sleeping while everything else is silent is unnerving for them.

Terra: Heavy sleeper, the kind of person who will kick off all her blankets in the night and wake up with the worst bedhead you have ever seen.

Cameron: They will drink on occasion, mostly for special events. They don't smoke, mostly because they hate the smell of tobacco (and weed)

Ollie: Ollie doesn't drink that much, it's not their thing. They don't smoke cigarettes, however they will smoke the occasional joint to help them sleep.

Rose/Rory: They work as a bartender and drink regularly, though they stay mostly sober while they're actually on the clock. They don't smoke because they have asthma, and would prefer to not mess up their breathing even more.

Terra: Terra drinks semi-regularly, it's not that big of a thing for her. She does smoke (a habit she picked up from her mom) though she has been trying to quit for a while now. She also will smoke weed on occasion to help manage her chronic pain.

What are the ROs families like?

Cameron: They are an only child, with very little extended family. While they are very close to their parents, who were on the surface incredibly supportive of all their endeavors, the relationship was a bit strained in the years that they were 'gallivanting around the country' but have since been able to talk it out. Their parents are trying to be more understanding (which is much easier when they started to go with a traditional career path) and they are overall incredibly kind people, with some flaws.

Ollie: Ollie is not very close with their family, because while their parents call at least once a week, they don't like to talk about their actual problems as to not worry her. They have a very large extended family on their mother's side, and are the youngest of two siblings. They get along well with their brother, and he lives in Santa Fe to take care of their Grandfather.

Rose/Rory: R is the oldest of three siblings, and while they do have extended family, they do not talk. Their parents left Misty Cove shortly after R's youngest brother left for college, which is the only reason R was even slightly okay with moving back after the group split up. Their relationship with their parents has never been great, with having all of the expectations piled on top of them, they started to resent their parents and have not talked to them in years. As far as siblings go, they will still talk with their younger sister and brother, though it's harder considering they live in different parts of the country.

Terra: Well, oh boy there's a lot happening here. Terra does not have a very good relationship with her mother for a multitude of reasons, some of which are spoilers, some of which are her mother's own prejudices. Her parents divorced when she was very little, and she lived with her Dad most of the time, but was with her mom for the summers, when they would visit her grandparents in Misty Cove. She and her father have a good relationship, and is still incredibly close with her grandfather.

Would the RO's play DnD? If so, which classes, races, type of characters would they make? Who would want to be DM? And would they be good at it?

Let's assume the scenario is the RO's and MC had become a friend group again, and decided to play the game.

As for me, and probably my MC (I'm not entirely sure if this would stay that way, as it could change depending on how MC is written), I would create a paladin. Maybe an elf or a half elf (not sure if that's reasonable meta wise, but eh). I would probably begin serious, but would quickly end up falling into ridiculous debauchery (while also trying to keep my paladin within the limits of his oath, lol).

while I think in my heart that R and Cam probably wouldn't want to play the game, especially at first, they're getting dragged into this ask because I think it's fun.

Cameron would probably play as a barbarian dragonborn for their first character. Because they 5hink that the rage mechanic is cool and so are dragonborns. As for how they would play, they aren't the best actor, so for the most part they would be playing a character very similar to themselves, but they would do their best to play along and would eventually learn to enjoy it. (Later on they would learn about artificers & clerics and have an absolute ball)

Ollie is fully on the magic user train. They would probably take on the spellcasting classes especially in earlier campaigns/one shots where the others are still getting the hang of things. The kind of characters they would play vary a lot, since DnD gives them a chance to act and have fun outside of how they normally present themselves. (In the first campaign with the whole group though they're playing a dwarven warlock)

Rose/Rory would probably start off as that person at the table who doesn't care and is just stacking dice the whole time, but then they would get really into it and start actually playing for real, and dressing up for their character. As for what they would play, they would play as a elf cleric, then immediately switch to a martial class.

Terra would probably want to play as a half-elf ranger, but would really enjoy being the DM and getting to build a story for everybody to play. She's always been into performing and storytelling, and DnD is right up her alley. She would always make wings and snacks before every session, and would lure everybody else in to play with promises of food, before drawing them in and getting everybody actually invested in the plot.

I don’t know if this has already been asked so I apologize if it has and I missed it— but will we be able to choose our reason for leaving the group as well as what job we currently have ? Or is the job part already planned out and we only get to choose our reason for leaving ? Either way, really looking forward to play this game when it comes out! :D

I can't really answer the reason for leaving the group question without some *major* spoilers, I'm sorry about that lol. But! I can say that while MC's job has been chosen for plot reasons, players do get the option to choose why they would leave their current job (or if they would at all)

What made the ROs get into their current careers? Would they be doing something else if they could? What's their dream job?

Cameron

Cameron had an interest in tech but didn't realize they could actually work in tech or on cars until they put actual research into it. They love their current job as a part-time mechanic, though they're not sure how they feel about deciding to go to grad school. They're dream job would really just be going back to mystery solving, but if that weren't an option they are perfectly happy with their current job, and could go into tech.

Ollie

They have almost always been set on their current career (after watching Bones it was over for them) Though working as a teacher was not p[art of the plan, and they would much rather being doing field work. But unless something drastic happens they're perfectly content on the current path.

Rose/Rory

They had to move back to Misty Cove after the group split up, and started working as the bartender because it was a job that let them be involved with the local music scene. They aren't really sure what they would do if they were to change careers, but their dream job is to return back to mystery solving or to become a travel blogger because both give them an excuse to do things they enjoy.

Terra

Terra didn't really want to take over her grandpa's diner, but she's becoming more okay with it over time, and is starting to enjoy being in Misty Cove and being involved with the town. Her dream is still to pursue music, though she highly doubts it's going to happen.
