aaaaa i just finished reading piece by piece and i dont usually consume zenitsu-centric media but there have been a few exceptions!!! also wondering: did 2 year old zsnitsu remember his first name or was that sorta given to him as well, like how agatsuma was? not sure if you specified it, i did read it at like 1am loll

Hi! So, yes, I had written that Zenitsu retained the memory of his first name. Zenitsu is about two years old in the timeline I have set up in the fic, and, to my knowledge (I also checked with my mom as I have spent limited time with young kids, and gave it a quick online search), kids will know their own name before a year, and will say their own name by the time they're about two!

However, I think that Zenitsu would have forgotten his surname. Since Zenitsu would have been called "Zenitsu" by his parents, and since they refer to one another by their first names too, Zenitsu wouldn't have heard his surname often like he would his first name.

So, if he could introduced himself to others and kept having his name be used, then Zenitsu would remember it, right?

Maybe it's not realistic lol, I'm certainly not an expert on what two-year-olds can and can't remember. This is just what I thought worked to make the story how I wanted it to go.

Funniest thing in the whole wide world is opening a completed fic and seeing the author’s note for the first chapter say something like “unlike my other fics, this will be a shorter one! Expect it to be complete within three months or so” and then you look at the stats and the fic is 100k+ words and took two years to finish

I'm rereading Piece By Piece, and I'm chuckling to myself that I'm only just noticing how much Zenitsu is like each of them, more than he believes at least personality wise. Like, we all know he's like Suma the most with how emotionally open she is, how Zenitsu whines petulantly, how they cling to each other and cry about the spiders, and their emotional nap scene. There's also makio and tengen's tempers, makio's irritation with Suma much the same as Zenitsu's own with Inosuke, and in general his bit or sass and when he bursts in pent up anger that's a little violent, just as tengen had manhandled him after being offended. Hinatsuru's gentleness and care is subtle I think, but I feel it's in the way Zenitsu holds a conversation with her and is able to seemingly be a more comfortable with her due to her more subdued nature compared to his other parents. The way he offers to press flowers for them is just so sweet and an innocent show of some affection, and how accepting he is of hina's forehead kisses really does squeeze my heart!!

Very little and probably insignificant examples I cherry picked for a little analysis, but I guess I just want to say love this fic do much. Zeni Baby deserves many doting parents that r trying their best for him🫶

I really wanted aspects of Zenitsu sharing traits of his parents to come through since Zenitsu consistently references I'm the fic that he's nothing like his parents at all (in a self-disparaging way), while he does canonically share traits with Tengen, Makio, Suma, and Hinatauru.

It makes me so happy to know that it's coming through in the story!

I’ve been reading piece by piece and I just had to say here I’m completely obsessed with it, I’ve had so much brainrot of bio!son zenitsu of Uzui and i was wondering if you had any headcanons or ideas of what their dynamic would’ve been like had zenitsu not gone missing? Would his personality been largely different or still generally the same? Would zenitsu be a sound breather user or still thunder breather? I’m sorry for the so many questions I’m just obsessed lol

Hi, thank you so much!!! And please don't apologise for asking I am more than happy to have an excuse to talk about it myself lol.

I do think a few things would be different if Zenitsu grew up with his family. I don't think he would've had so many girlfriends so young, especially with his parents, who married young, there to guide him.

I also think Zenitsu wouldn't be so "I have no expectations to meet because nobody ever expected anything of me" and maybe instead he'd be more, like, afraid of the legacy he'd have to live up to with all his parents being Shinobi and, of course, Tengen being a Hashira.

I do also headcanon that he would be a thunder breath user, but that's mostly because I cannot imagine a world where Zenitsu doesn't get to meet gramps 🥺

As for the general fam, I kind of imagine that having a kid would actually really mellow Tengen out and make him a tiny bit more responsible, especially when he's at the life stages we see him at in the anime/manga.

I actually have ummmmmm a whole follow-up au fic planned (no idea when I will even grt to writing it tho since I'm not finished piece by piece 😭) that will be about Zenitsu growing up with his family!!! So while I have no guarantee when that will be coming pls stay tuned for that!!

👻 What is your wildest headcanon?

Urokodaki and Kuwajima explored each other's bodies

I don't think Rengoku knew Zenitsu or Inosuke's names. Like he knew they were on the train but I don't think he put any effort into remembering their names if they were formally introduced. I don't think the majority of the Hashira know their names tbh, despite being pretty impressive fighters in their own right. I feel like they're just known as Tanjiro's weird friends and that's it. Idk if that's even that wild but I def think they lack a reputation despite being as equally weird as Tanjiro.

🦈 Which character is the toughest to write?

I was literally just talking about this with @freshie-owo but Gramps is difficult to write because he has so few dialogue scenes in the canon and they're pretty much all motivational speeches which is clearly not how he speaks all the time.

I'm also currently having trouble writing Inosuke...

👓 What helps you focus when you write?

Motivation always strikes me when I should be doing literally anything else, so a lot of my writing happens when I'm at work or procrastinating an important task.

I do find changing my music helps, but I'm very picky about what I listen to when I'm focusing on something so I end up rotating the same three soundtracks over and over until I'm able to focus.
