@ all bi kids: ur sexuality and experiences are valid. It’s okay for you to be figuring out ur identity and it’s not “just a phase”. Keep in mind that ur young and a lot of ppl are gonna talk shit on u bc they think ur too young to know what u want. Don’t worry, ur beautiful and ur identity is valid.

Tumblr media
in anticipation of Bisexual Awareness Week — which begins Sept. 20 — the out and proud American bisexual activist, actress and mom Evan Rachel Wood,  has shared more personal insight into bisexuality via a series of passionate, educational and enlightening tweets.
Tumblr media
On Thursday night (Sept. 17), Wood began by quoting a Human Rights Campaign blog post published earlier that day entitled, “Bisexual Adults Face Heightened Risk for Health Issues Including Cancer, STDs and Depression” .The report highlights research about bisexual individuals’ mental, physical and sexual health, and urges more inclusive studies about the bi community.
“The reality is that bisexual people face discrimination not only outside of our community, but also from within. And that can discourage them from engaging in and benefitting from the work that LGBT advocates are doing to address our mental, physical and sexual health,” Wood wrote on Twitter, quoting HRC.
Tumblr media
After sharing those select quotes from HRC’s blog post, the 28-year-old continued by lamenting the discrimination that bisexual people face, even within the LGBT community. She also clarified to one user Twitter user that having a two-year-old son with her ex-husband, Jamie Bell, doesn’t change her identity on the sexual spectrum; she is, as she says, “still bisexual.”

Thank you BIWOC Founder and Director, Gwendolyn Fougy Henry, EdM, MSLIS
Tumblr media
In honor of Bisexual Women of Color - BIWOC’s  2 year anniversary, we would like to uplift and show appreciation for our founder and Director, Gwendolyn Fougy Henry. Gwendolyn created BIWOC on June 5th, 2013 from a deep rooted dedication she has towards mental health, decreasing emotional and social isolation, and celebration of intersectional identities - bisexual, racial, cultural and gender. You can learn more about why she created our community organization here: Why I set up Bi Women of Color. Somethings that were not included in this article is what she actually DOES on a daily basis for BIWOC.
1. Check emails and respond to personal messages from bi women of color from all over the USA and overseas.
2. Setting boundaries with trolls, stalkers, and sexual harassers who fetishize her for being a black bisexual woman and assume her body belongs to them. She has written about this here: My Personal Experiences with Biphobia: Prejudice, Discrimination, Emotional, Verbal and Physical Assaults towards my Bisexual Identity.
3. Created and facilitate the BIWOC CoffeeChat and Bi Women Partnered with Men support groups and oversea all BIWOC services:  http://biwoc.tumblr.com/BIWOCServices
4. Manage all social media accounts and develop content for our Tumblr, Twitter, and Facebook and Pinterest accounts. What that actually means is that SHE is the human that writes the posts, finds articles to schedule in our queue and keeps track of analytics (amount of followers and members and what posts gets the most attention).
5. She checks up on BIWOC members through monthly check ins in the online support group and if needed on an individual basis connects with them via telephone or email.
6. She collaborates with other Bisexual organizations and creates local programs and organize community events such as summer picnics, movie outings, lectures, partnered and contributed content towards the campaign Bisexual Health Awareness Month and co-sponsored a BiPride party with MadFemmePride, and writes pieces for Bi Women Support Network,
7. Most importantly she has shared her personal life stories with us through her beautiful, sharp, raw, and inciteful writing. They can be found here  In addition to the volunteer work she does for our community, she is a mother of two children, a spouse, a professional in the library and archives field, and a great vegan baker and cook. She also runs another community organization Boston Vegan Women of Color and is a Board Member with the Bisexual Resource Center. We are so honored to have Gwendolyn as our leader, role model and if you are lucky enough to know her - most of all friend.  BIWOC Volunteer Staff

No wait I have more to say about Bi Tumblr Ideas I’ve decided
For the longest time, I did believe that the request for bi folks to “pick a side” was a part of biphobic rhetoric that didn’t have a direct parallel in homophobic rhetoric.
Over time, though, I’ve come to understand something: the adage “pick a side” does not come from a desire for everyone in the world to be either straight or gay, but to remove the possibility of same-gender attraction existing alongside “opposite”-gender attraction.
The existence of a bi person who continues to identify as bi for the remainder of their life threatens straight people because it indicates that “opposite”-gender attraction, the “superior” one, can exist concurrently with same-gender attraction. This ruins a lot of the filters through which liberal straight people are able to accept same-gender attraction (i.e. they can’t help it, they wouldn’t choose this if they had the option to be straight, it could never have been me because I like the “opposite” gender).
So when a straight person is telling you to “pick a side,” they are telling you that their acceptance of gay people rests on the grounds that they can be definitively defined as “other;” they are not telling you that they feel comfortable with gay sexuality.
