tbfh if it rly just took hiding under a shield for rose, garnet, & pearl to not get corrupted by the diamomds’ attack, then that probably means there should have at LEAST been more gems out there who had also found a way to dodge the light beam thing, whether it’d be hiding behind some kind of building/fallen spacecraft or just getting below ground.

it’s not impossible that only 3 survived it at the time, it’s just improbable.

Gemsona Prompt Collaboration Event (Round 2)

Need an art prompt, but can’t seem to find one that appeals to you? Want to make a gemsona, but don’t know where to draw inspiration from or where to start? Why not let me give you some ideas? :) I thought it would be a cute idea to give gemsona makers a gemstone name with a few predetermined character traits as a character creating exercise and fun collaboration! It’s easy to enter and there is no deadline!

Example Prompt: Citrine; loves snow, has a bubbly personality, wears tall boots, gemstone shape is a faceted circle

The Concept: Anyone interested in this semi-collaboration must send me a message through my ask box OFF anonymous. I will give the sender the name of a gemstone and four character traits that the artist will have to work with while creating their gemsona. Some of these prompts may even be from your gemsona making peers!

**Accepting Requests: starting March 17th until March 25th **Deadline: No deadline is in place; feel free to post your collab at any time

How to Receive a Gemstone: Send a message through my ask box requesting a gemstone. In your message, please include the name(s) of the gemsona(s) you’ve made so that I don’t give you the same gemstone.

Example Message: “Hello! I would like a gemsona prompt please. My gemsonas are Howlite, Iolite, Smoky Quartz, and Mystic Topaz. Thank you!”

Post Requirements: **At least one photo/visual of your gemsona and a short description/caption.

For the Photo: A full body visual of the gemsona (weapon not needed)

For the Description/Caption: -Weapon -Ability (give at least one ability) -Pronouns -Personality (give at least 4 or more personality traits) -Backstory/Biography (give at least 2 sentences or more) -Extra Information (i.e: where they live, what interests they have, who they are friends with, stance on Homeworld and the Crystal Gems, etc.)

surprise! i got a good amount of it timed just right before i expected to! unfortunately, i think i was more caught up with the later half of part one, part two, and part three so the first half of part one is off which grinds on my gears so much because ive spent two days on this shit holy hell

Halite (Sodium Chloride)

Apropos of nothing and what feels like several years after the fad’s initial heyday, here is my attempt at a gemsona. Her name is Halite (the fancy name for the crystalline form of table salt). She’s a timid technician-type gem slightly akin to Peridot, very physically weak but highly intelligent. Her gem is cuboid in shape and can be found on the back of her head.

I actually came up with this design a while ago (or something like it) but was in a one of my art funks where I was obsessing over everything, so I could never bring myself to finish it because it never felt quite right (to the point where I got sort of depressed about it). I think part of this was because I really liked the aesthetic of the show (Steven Universe, for anyone who doesn’t follow it), like the lineart and sense of weight everything has, and I was disappointed in myself that I couldn’t quite match up to it to a sufficient level. I don’t think it’s perfect now but I’m generally more relaxed nowadays so at least I was able to finish it. I had a bunch of the SU character sheets open while I worked on it for reference, so I’ve tried to stick to that visual language fairly closely (although I’ve been pretty lazy with a lot of the proportions across the different poses). I’m not sure who drew this sheet (I suspect Rebecca Sugar herself, or maybe Lauren Zuke?) but I found it super useful.

Shape-wise she makes me think of a weird cross between Garnet & Peridot. I’m pleased with her squared-off hairstyle. Looking back I think she’s sort of inspired by Maddie Ziegler, the girl who dances in a few of Sia’s music videos. Despite her hair’s blockiness I imagine it moving quite fluidly, like normal hair.

A Lapis Lazuli and Amethyst fusion, Covellite! A moody clown who’s into everything creepy.

This one was a little more difficult since the two have barely shared one line of dialogue on the show as of this moment. I think a mix of their styles of humour, reckless and deadpan, would make Covellite a melancholic fusion, slightly more sinister than expected. She’s loosely based on Harley Quinn and Sia.
