Update: I decided to finish the sage in it’s sequential order. So tonight I watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Having been disappointed with Yates prior work on the series I was nervous going into this film. But shortly into the film it is evident that they pulled out the final guns. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was produced on a scale that makes you laugh when you compare it to Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, while it brought the charm and glee to life it was evident from the same hallways and a few years later the poor quality of the CGI that the movie could use a little more money and time.
I hope that when Harry Potter comes back in a new film renditions that it has the backing of the later Harry Potter films did so that we can have high quality content throughout (obv I know some of the hiccups had nothing to do with money).
I remember going to the theater for the first time, being with my mom, I remember where I sat. It was a moment in life you won’t ever forget. This was the height of the reign of Harry Potter and it was heartbreaking to get so close to the end. As we slowly saw those we come to love die. Hedwig. My heart shattered.
Many people do not like Part 1 because they camp for too long, but personally I find this movie to be perfectly paced. There will always be things when you compare them to the books that you will be let down. But I find myself giving this movie the benefit of the doubt because it can only fix so much from its predecessors. Since my initial watch and to this day, the thing I personally wish was in the movie that is not, is the depth of Harry’s emotions towards the loss of his wand (and him later mending his wand). During my reread I would have liked the scene where the snatchers arrive and others are also captured including dean. It would’ve been nice if they had explained the mirror, but I’m okay with how they explained it (minus how Harry got a piece). I think something 4 on could’ve done better, on a micro level, is Harry use his invisibility clock at least once in each movie esp this one lol. Not only does it help tie into the explanation and discovery of the Deathly Hallows, Harry is the desirable number one. He needs to be hidden.
These are all small things. The one thing I genuinely am not a big fan of is the look of Harry and Voldemort’s connection. Ever since someone commented on Ralph finnes I haven’t been as big of a fan

I really wish I finished my movie review of order of the Phoenix and half blood prince that I started the other day, as it was well written, I just spent too long on the introduction, I didn’t get to my main point rip

I’m currently conflicted, if I want to continue watching the HP movies in order I should watch 7 part one, but currently I want to watch Goblet of Fire. This is most likely because I just read the Goblet of Fire chapter in page to screen. Like I’ve mentioned before I had to go back and forth from the room while watching  3 & 4 this last time. The other day I also just wanted to restart them but I don’t think that’s what I want to do (I also wanted to restart the book, but quarantine should be about moving forward not as much repetitive bx (I can justify the movie more)

Movie Review (sort of) - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
I finally decided to continue with my rewatch of the Harry Potter franchise.
During my rewatch of the series I have found myself not as present as I would like, and ironically when I am randomly watching one of the films when it comes on television, or the children at work decide to watch it I become more invested. While watching the Socerer’s stone, I was doing laundry, wan’t fully present and yet was so focused on analyzing the movie, I wasn’t able to enjoy it. I honestly don’t remember my Chamber of Secrets rewatch but it will alway be one of my favorites, sooo... I decided to watch the Prisoner of Azkaban and the Goblet of Fire during an overnight shift, the one down side of making this decision is I had to leave the room throughout the night and didn’t actually watch straight through, which makes me want to go back and watch those films again, as if I haven’t watched them a million of times. I went out of order and watched Deathly Hallows part 1 with some coworkers and I have also watched snippets of the movie whenever I see that it is on tv before and during my journey to rewatch the films.
Today I watched Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and it was the movie I have been the most invested in this far. This was my least favorite movie and book at the beginning of my reread. I appreciated the 5th book a lot more with my reread and now appreciate the 5th movie a lot more as well.
I appreciate the book and movie for different reasons. One thing that the 5th movie did well was to focus on a central theme and stick to it. The movie keeps you captivated during the duration of the film and the transitions were done really well. There are some pieces of the story that are missing and will hurt the future movies. That seems to be one of the biggest down fall of the movies is after a certain point they focused less on the overarching storyline and too much on small details. What is needed is a good balance of both. Something that I’ve noticed overall from my rewatch is how much they do in fact include some of the side characters, this was the first time I noticed Ginny’s facial expression when Harry is interacting with Cho or someone mentions Cho.
This movie creates a good building block for Hermonie and Ron’s relationship. I feel like this movie wasn’t as bad for Ron. While there is a different writer for this film, which makes a huge difference, you can still tell the former writer prefers Hermonie and the building blocks were already set in place. These points happen to relate to the long term plot but the Harry-Voldemort relationship is the most important plot line throughout the series.
I don’t like how Voldemort is portrayed in this film, I preferred Ralph Fiennes   performance in the Goblet of Fire, whereasif, Dumbledore was softer, while still being aloof which felt appropriate. I didn’t like when Voldemort was on a black screen waving his wand and could do without Voldy at the Hogwarts express or a different way to show Harry turning into Voldemort during the montage of clips while Voldemort is possessing Harry. It’s funny watching the film because they really made the whole movie seem like it was all about Professor Umbridge but reading the book you realize she plays a much smaller role.
Professor Umbridge was always the reason I hate the book and movie and that Harry is angst, but I now would almost say that they could have done a tad better to really show his anger and PTSD in the film. He was very tame, and almost appeared too flat at times. The adult actors did brilliant in this film. This was the first time that I really recognized the film style of this film. At times it feels too muggle esp when comparing it to the earlier films but I for the first time can see why they chose Yates and I can see similarities in how I loved fantastic beasts.
Dumbledore’s convo with Harry was very very short which is a tad concerning considering it was an entire chapter but this was a really good stand alone film. Kingsley was one of the stand out characters. I noticed that this film has sooo little when it comes to classes. They did good at focusing not only on the trio but also on the other groupings. But I want even more.

Ranking of the Harry Potter Books based off my Reread
For anyone who is not aware, this is my 4th or 5th time reading the Harry Potter books (I honestly don’t know). I started rereading it during my senior year of college, read the first one and then stopped in the middle of the second one, sometime, the following year I finished the Chamber of Secrets, I have no idea when I started Prisoner of Azkaban, but I didn’t seriously start rereading them until the end of 2019 or beginning of 2020. It took me a little bit to properly get back into reading, where it was enjoyable, and I could sustain reading more than just reading a few pages before putting down the book. And luckily I can now say I have repaired my relationship with reading that college oh so nicely damaged, anyways now on to my ranking.
For this ranking I want to focus more on how enjoyable it was to read each of these books, and less on how much I enjoy the storyline of each of these books, I feel like another reread will be required to properly reform my list, but it does feel like it has changed.
Starting from the bottom:
At 7th Place is
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
While this book has always been one of my favorite books of the series I did not find it as enjoyable this time. Since I read HP1 and started HP3 in 2018 I feel like they are unfairly placed at the bottom, 1) because they were read during a different time period 2) They were read at the beginning of my trying to fall back in love with reading (the question is could I finish a Harry Potter book in 2 or 3 days like I used to, maybe, but now I feel too anxious if I’m not cleaning, going to the gym or what not on a down day)
(I remember 2 things about my rereading, in 2018 thinking ????? when I was reading a Lockhart scene, and in 2019 finishing the book on an overnight when I think I was the only other *** and Au was the nurse on)
in 6th Place is
Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone
This book has always been my least favorite book in the series because it has been the most difficult for me to read, I find myself consistently losing my attention span around Platform 9 and 3/4. If I’m not mistaken I did not find this re read as difficult, and I definitely cried at the end of rereading it.
in 5th Place is
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
This book has always been my favorite, it may have fallen because of my expectations for it, but I think it had to do more to do with my lack of expectations, or more like me forgetting plot points in books 3-5 which enhanced my reading of the book.
So far I’ve mostly been talking about the negatives about the book, in part because I don’t remember my reread of the 1st two books, but here is what I like about the Half Blood Prince.
The Half Blood Prince has always been my favorite book because it gives you a little bit of everything, the trio, the classes, Quidditch, Harry at the Dursleys, love interest, friendship, Voldemort, harry’s relationship with Dumbeldore, and a good balance of our antagonist.
This book is interesting because Voldemort isn’t in the book, and yet a decent portion of the book is about him. The memories weren’t quite as amazing as I remember them being, I particularly found the Marvolvo flashback difficult to read. When best sellers like Harry Potter come out, once you read the big storylines, it’s not as easy to forget them, and as this has been my favorite book it could’ve been harder to forget these parts, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if my head wasn’t quite at the same place as books 3-5. And then again, maybe I don’t want to admit to myself I’m not as in love with book 6 as I used to be, anyways.
Ginny and Harry and beautifully written in this book, Ginny’s character development starting in book 5 is enjoyable to read. I think reading this book, and 7, made me more uncomfortable with Ron and Hermonie, it just kind of happens, and it doesn’t feel as natural, but then again were in Harry’s head and not theirs.
After having read HP5, I think I was disappointed in the length of this book because I wanted more, I especially loved reading about the classes, and the story of the Half Blood Prince, and while at the beginning I just said I enjoyed having the many storylines, I wish there was even more emphasize on the classes, and what Harry needs to do to become an Auror.
in 4th Place is
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Unlike HP6, I find this book to be perfectly paced. I was surprised when we were suddenly at Hogwarts, I for some reason thought there was more time before jumping off the dragon and apparating to Hogsmead. I didn’t cry as much as I have in the past while reading this, but I think it was in part from taking a month to read this book and continuously changing locations to read this, and COVID, that defs slowed down my reading.
The second half of the book is, ofc where the book shines, as we find out a lot of information, everyone is coming out of isolation and fighting, and there is more action. My one disappointment is where the book ends, I enjoy the epilogue, minus the kids names, but the final chapter left me wanting more. Like yes I wanted to see more about the aftermath of the war, but with the final last few words saying that Harry wanted to sleep and hoped Kreacher would bring him a sandwich didn’t quite hit the heart strings. But I do like that the epilogue brings us to the place where it all began, and where we now know, that Harry is happy, and no longer has this hurt he has carried with him for years (not to say the boy didn’t have PSD).
While they mention the flaw of Harry never trusting in others, or relying too much on Dumbledore, at times it was frustrating at the lack of information he gave others, it’s like you could just say youre on a secret mission as to end voldemort, but then again I guess it might have made it easier for voldemort to figure it out the more he talked about it. I hated reading the Lupin scene I cringed so much.
I forgot that Dean was captured by the snactchers, and was upset they couldn’t have added this ti the movie, but I also get it, kind of
I’ve never understood the hate for the camping scenes, they really aren’t that bad, but youre also not wrong that they’re not the most exciting scenes in the book, because ofc theyre not
in 3rd Place is
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
I picked this book up at the beginning of the year, starting from the place I had left off on weeks (or months) ago. It took me a few chapters before I was fully submerged back into the wizard of world of Harry Potter and I was soo happy.
There were elements that I forgot such as the extended backstory of the maururders. I wasn’t a huge fan of the chapter focused on scanners and crookshanks, by I also wasn’t mad at it.
Reading 3-5, as I progressed from book to book I loved what I was reading more and more.
in 2nd Place is
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
I was surprised by how much I had forgotten in this particular book including the rolls or Ludo Bagman, Winky, and the killing of Bart Crouch.
Ron being upset at Harry didn’t feel as drawout as I remember (compared to the movie, that is always a question when it comes to thinking about the book, am I actually thinking about it or am I just thinking about the movie?) and SPEW wasn’t as annoying as I remember it being. This book has a different storyline as it’s following the twiwizard tournament so naturally I feel like most people find this book more exciting. The book creates the perfect building blocks for the next book, something in which the movies fail to do, but even with that, I feel like they could have done a better job at joining together the two stories even it it was coming from OOTP
in 1st Place is
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoniex
People always complain that this book is too long but I found it perfect. Right after this random event happening at hogwarts we need normalcy, we need hormonal relationship, and we have that foundation of politics which leads the book. My hatred for the book is what made me enjoy the book the most upon reread, because it really wasn’t that bad. I have been watching a booktuber review the books after I have finished each consecutive book, and Inthink she said it well in that, when you are younger you don’t understand the book as well, I’ve now experienced loss, and forms of depression. Not on the level of Harry, but on enough of a level that I can understand. I now know the intensity of your teenage years. And now emphasize with his anger at the government, and more people should be upset, he should be more upset, and again as this youtubers said Ron and Hermonie let him know when he was becoming to much or when his anger became misleaded and directed towards them but it was not in fact them who he was mad at, especially when given the full facts. I believe this is the book that I cried like the last 100 pages. The dialogue at the end of the book is brilliant.
*when comparing the books to the movies, 5-7 had the worst adaptation of the battle at the end. I was never a huge fan of OOTP battle, but the half blood prince battle made me the most upset, and everyone said that David Yates did the action scenes the best. I’ve just never been a big fan. He did a decent job at the l dealthly hallows but 5 and 6. 👎🏽

I wish I had made more posts while I was rereading, because now I’m like was it the 5th book that I just sobbed through?? Like multiple times? I defs cried while reading the last book multiple times, but not as intensely. But I also feel like say the battle, I wanted to finish the book by yesterday (finished today) and so I kept changing the environment I was reading it in and thus took me out of that element to be vulnerable and cry at times.

I’m so tempted to reread the philosophers stone and the chamber of secrets since I basically started my reread during 3 because there was such a long gap from when I officially started my reread in 2018? I got stuck in the middle of 2 and didn’t finish it until sometime during 2019. And paused again on 3 (I honestly don’t even remember when I started 3).

I’m over halfway through the Order of the Phoenix, Mrs. Weasley has just arrived at the Grimmuld place to inform everyone that Mrs. Weasley is ok and now the crew is on their way to St. Mungo’s hospital (I wanted to read to page 500, I’m on page 483 but that chapter made me really emotional and I think I need other input before I go to bed). Anyways. Thoughts thus far.
Rereading this book has made me appreciate the book and not completely hate as I had as a child. As an adult, who is more educated and who has been through hardships in life that 11 year old me had no I can appreciate and understand Harry’s behavior through out the book. Like many others I would say that Harry was angsty. But he has PTSD and he’s being kept in the dark no duh he’s going to be frustrated. This behavior also doesn’t drag on as much as I remembered it. On my reread I craved the mundane, just seeing Harry, Ron, and Hermonie during an average school day. This book gives you this. It felt very fitting after Goblet of Fire which was very much not an ordinary school year. But this one feels like the most ordinary out of all of the ones they have. Obviously there’s other elements to the story that also make it interesting includingn the DA, the order, and Umbridge but the everyday really shines in this book.
We get to see Sirus as a more dimensional character, while he almost looks bad at the beginning of the book the trip to the hospital is a good reminder how caring Sirus is..
Mcgonagal really shines during this book.
As I’m writing this I think this in part explains why HBP is my favorite Harry Potter book because it’s so ordinary. It’s fun to go to class with them, see the trio interact, and occasionally bicker. Seeing relationships romantic and not grow. And ofc the half blood prince and Voldemort story lines of that book.
Back to the Order of the Phoenix now that I’m half was through I know rest of the book will read pretty fast (I also didn’t get much of a chance to read this week because I was constantly at work). But hopefully I’ll finish it by the end of the week and I will be on track to finish 2 books this month.

Ok so as I was finishing HP4 I started to remember things that I liked about HP5 something worth sharing since I tend to put it down.
1) the world gets a lot bigger, it goes beyond Harry Ron and Hermonie and their small circle
- we get to know more of these characters more
-HP4 solidifies the Weasley family as something much more than friends to Harry, their gratitude becomes strengthened in HP5
The Order we get to see more of the adult interactions which can be very entertaining
During my reread I found some of the best parts the on going conversations esp between Harry and Dumbledore intriguing. But also a good reminder as to why it’s difficult to translate things to film. We get a lot less of the Harry Dumbledore interaction this book which again is something that will frusterate me. But the convos at the end of 4 help build longer ones, end of 5, is big and important which will lead to 6.
DA going outside of the 🦁 and the 🐍 and getting to know other students
2) the political build up in 4 was very subtle and unfolded very quickly in a chapter we have the snippets of Rita and the newspaper infiltrating things as we will continue to see. It’s a good transition to 5. The

Ranking the Harry Potter Movies
I have without a questionable doubt watched the movies many more times than I have read the books, 1-4 I watched the movies before I read the book, 6&7 I read the books first, and 5 well, I was in the middle of the book when the movie came out. Looking back I couldn’t wish it another way. I feel like the information you find out in 6 & 7 is essential to learn in the books first (let's pretend I didn’t find out a HUGE spoiler prior to getting to book 6). 5 honestly I would’ve disliked regardless. I also had no idea what depression was at the time, and hasn’t gone through a mild level of teenage angst.
Unlike my book ranking, I am going to go in order by movie, and then place them in their respected spot at the end.
(I am going to watch each movies’ respected trailer while I write these, I am very excited)
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
And so the magic begins,
this movie did an excellent job of bringing us into the world and falling in love with this trio that we will go on an adventure with.
Unlike the book, which I found the beginning to drag on a little too much, it has you interested to keep watching, everything is new, and were looking along with the characters. Quidditch is done really well, the CGI, on the other hand, is very bad, there was one year where I was watching the film and all of the sudden I realized how outdated it was, and now it’s a bit distracting to watch at times.
I think Christopher Columbus was an excellent choice for the director.
And ofc the music, ugh my heart my heart, I cry. This is one reason to love these movies alone, the first two movies have my favorite score.
One thing I like that the movies do that the books don’t is they end at Hogwarts, which keeps the magic alive as you leave the theater. This ending always makes me cry.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
This is, and will always my most loved Harry Potter film.
I knew this movie by heart, me and my friend would act this film out, they had some of the best bts footage (And game). I love dobby, the music, the ending makes me cry even more than the first one. This movie screams nostalgia (even more than hp1 tbh). I think I enjoy this movie a little more than 1 because we get to jump right into the action. This film is very pure, and not nearly as dark as it soon is to get, but it is also one of the most important films that later ties to the later books/films but you don’t know it yet.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
At the time this film was a little to dark for 8 year old me. I can’t remember but this may have been the first film I saw in theaters (I know for sure that I didn’t see 1-2, and 4 in theaters).
This film is beautiful and PERFECT. I don’t think there is anything I can criticize (jk i do below) about this film. I think they did a good job at cutting out the unnecessary parts of the pet debacle while still keeping it in the movie. This movie makes me love Lupin even more, great casting choice.
random things
1) the scene that harry finds out sirus is his grandfather is confusing, but I also understand the direction of harry following them to a vacant room instead of staying in the 3 broomsticks. - So it could be clearer...
2) I don’t mind the change of harry seeing Pettigrew on the ground in the map, it adds suspense
3)  I don’t like Michael Gambon’s Dumbledore, obv we can do anything but I wish he was softer (this could also be in part a directional choice but :/)
Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire
I’ve always loved even numbers, this stays true for Harry Potter. I like that in the films they focus on Harry being a good wizard, in the book I'm like ?????? he’s not really doing any of this himself, even though that has always been a theme in the books/movies, he acts like he can do it alone, but he needs help, and others are there to help him. But in the book I just think he’s cheating the entire time, even though in reality they all are cheating to a degree, it confuses my head.
Things I dislike” Dumbledore is obv too aggressive in this movie (but he annoys me less than in 3), the yule ball wasn’t executed as well as it could have been. I find ron getting mad at harry a lot more annoying in the movie, it also feels like it last longer than it did in the book.
I actually liked how they included “Moody” having a tounge thing, it helps the viewer put together the pieces. I also didn’t mind the quidditch scene being cut ngl
Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix
“There's a storm a coming Harry” - quotes by Hagrid, aka the most memorable part of the movie.
This movie I really need to rewatch because I’ve probably seen it the least. It is highly annoying. They obviously did a good job at casting Umbridge because I want to throw a shoe at the screen every time I watch it. I love how they executed Fred and Georges's departure scene, the effect in this movie otherwise I find annoying, Sirus in the fireplace, better in 4, the editing is a tad too dark, like sometimes you can’t see things on the screen, it’s overall too saturated. Grimmauld place was done well. I don’t this movie is just :/ to me. Ofc I’d still watch it over many other things. I think one of my biggest issues with this film is they try to make it funny, but it’s trying too hard, 3 & 4 do a good job at balancing dark storylines and humor, in this, not so much. This movie has Luna, another good job at casting, and Neville becomes more prevalent which I like.
Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince
This was my least favorite adaption, and it made me sad. And, Sadly, I wasn’t surprised I didn’t like it when it came out because David Yates Directed it. (It could’ve also been because of the writing but). This movie was EXTREMELY important to creating the last two films, and at this point, I believe the last book was already out. But the amount of stuff they left out made it difficult for people who didn’t read the books or even fully remember the books follow the later storylines. We needed more Voldemort, and less humor and love. When I watch this film back it’s never as bad as I think it is, the Felix felicis scene is my favorite when Hermoine attacks Ron with the birds also stand out. I would have been fine if they kept that in but they also did a poor job at it, they did horrible at developing Ginny’s character, HP5 also could’ve done a better job at that, but it just :/ watching them and the chemistry is barely there.
Also, who is the Half-Blood Prince because they barely include him in the film. I think this movie needed to be longer to help them accomplish executing the film properly.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
I was really nervous about the last two films because they were so bad, but luckily I was happy with them. (For the most part). There were things that probably didn’t make sense that I can’t remember on the top of my head.
Everyone and their mother didn’t like part 1 because it was boring but I actually liked it, not quite as much as the books but
As I’m watching the trailer it gave me chills, the fact that it’s the last two of the series makes it automatically better...Like it was the end of an ERA *I'm not crying you are*
I think if David Yates didn’t do these movies I would have liked them even more but.... what are you going to do. I wasn’t mad at them.
Ranking time....
8. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (annoying)
7. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (a sad remake)
6. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (I mean I’d rather watch the first film than this, but I’ve defs seen this film more than part 2)
5. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (welcome to Hogwarts)
4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (it’s the end of all endings)
3.  Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Voldemort returns)
2. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Gorgeous)
1. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (rest of the movies would be nothing without it)

Ranking of the Harry Potter Books (Mid Read)
I’m currently in the process of rereading the harry potter books, I have been for a while, but I finally got properly back into them and now I am reading them regularly. One of my favorite parts about rereading the series is remembering things I completely forgot what happens, a newfound appreciation reading these books as an adult who has since been through more dark things similar to harry. And a reminder as to why I feel in love with them in the first place.
I am currently on the Goblet of Fire, having just read the second task, and here is my current ranking, mostly based on past readings, to see if it will change at after the re-read.
7. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
I think the fact that this book is my least favorite makes me dread how long it is. My frustration with this book is how annoying Umbridge is, granted she’s supposed to be annoying, and ofc the ministry would hire someone if they notice the position seems not to be working and especially after the events that unfolded in the previous year. This book is very political, which takes away some of that fun of reading a book as a form of escapism. I always disliked Harry in this one, again, he just went through a loss and is frustrated with everything that happened. Just looking from an excitement level, I think the ended of the book isn’t as interesting compared to the other books - but it is one of the better parts of the book.
I feel like this book has the most potential when it comes to me changing my mind about it, because I really have only read the harry potter books in full 3 times or so, which really isn’t that many.
6. Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone
Every single time I try to read this book I have a hard time. The most recent time, I picked it up with the intention to get back into reading as college sucked that from me. So naturally, it was harder to pick up a book and read it on a regular basis. I ever since I first read the books, I always, I always get stuck at King’s Cross, I think the , while crucial drags on too long, I want to get to Hogwarts, but everything leading up to it starts to bore me so I don’t get there.
----------------------------
Ok so here is the part where I don’t really know what my ranking is, because it is so hard to compare, but we will go with this for right now.
5. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
I think this is one of the rankings where it’s very difficult for me to separate the book and the movie because I have a more vivid memory of the movie as it is probably my most watched harry potter film. I really enjoy the story in this book, I guess just compared to say the prisoner of Azkaban, I would rather read about Harry and Lupin than I would Harry and Lockhart. The fact that this was one of my initial favorites before we even learned about the hallows, makes it even more intriguing to read.
4. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Rereading this back, I appreciated it a lot more. I forgot how much Crookshanks and scabbers play a role in the book. I feel like at times I didn’t really want to read a chapter about a cat and a mouse, but the book had me hook in a way that I was okay getting through that chapter. It obviously plays a big role at the end and was essential.... the dynamic of the two characters reminds me that I am reading a children’s book. I don’t think that would deter me from the books, but it does seem petty that Harry and Hermonie are fighting over their pets.
I think the books create a better foundation (obviously because they are canon) to the events that unfold in the remaining books.
3. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
I think this book naturally is ranked higher because it is completely different than any of the other books, they have the tri wizard tournament, the characters are excited, and so is the reader. They tease you to the tournament. Personally, I am not as in love with the quidditch world cup as everyone else is, while re-reading it I actually found it difficult to read right away. With that said, I feel like it takes away how obsessed people were with victor, and how big a deal it was that Hermione went to the ball with Ron. This book definitely has my head turning as I am slowly putting back together with the piece of what is going to happen. While I have read it before I think it still does an excellent job at doing the same for the first time reader to try to put two and two together, because even halfway through and I would not expect the ending that we get.
2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
I always find this book (and movie) the most difficult to rank because how am I supposed to rank a book about them running around trying to find Horcruxes compared to 6 books of them at school - and ofc because it’s the last one. It was a great ending to the series, the heartbreak starting with Hedwig, jumping from place to place, trying to be safe, slowly discovering the secrets, everything.
1. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
And to my favorite harry potter book, this one has it all
1) finding out the back story of Voldemort, wildly fascinating, and essential to ultimately defeating Voldemort.
2) The romance, goblet of fire is childish, now there starting full-fledged relationships.
3) More dumbledore
4) Unlike 3 & 4 ron Harry and Hermione have a better relationship, this time it impacts harry less, so it’s not as bothersome to the reader.
5)  Slughorn being the potions teacher is a good twist, you can see harry actually learning, and it’s fun to follow along, his character is very essential to the overall story.

I've decided not to do posts on the last three chapters, I read most of them a few days ago and then the sorting hat chapter half was read a few days and I finished rest of it last night. I have decided not to go back and write about them because that requires skimming for a long time because it’s not as fresh in my mind and because I don’t want to stagnant my reading so much. I am thinking this may be a better project the next time I reread. Especially when I consider the fact that I haven’t reread these books in a hot minute.
A few things I do remember though is that, you have to wonder, did Scabbers purposefully bite the enemy on the train.
The first words Harry hears Dumbledore say include the words “Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak! Which both represents him and reminds you how weird he is. ..
Hermonie is a tad annoying upon her first appearance because she keeps coming in their trolley and then Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle coming in as well feels overwhelming.
Percy is more annoying tho, I think I have always found Percy annoying tho so that’s  not too surprising.
I might just end the post, for now, we will see,
