So I was doing some research on common medications for a pharmacology class at school, and realized that Wikipedia is calling out the outrageous practices of pharmacological sales in the US. Right up there in the main intro to the medication they’re showing how much the drug costs to produce, versus how much a typical course of treatment costs in the USA.

Did they ever reveal how Captain America was thawed? Because I’m picturing a bunch of Shield agents with hair dryers and I don’t think that’s quite right.

Patient whilst talking to me: nope, no health problems, never been in hospital, never seen a doctor ever ever ever
Patient whilst talking to the doctor I’m shadowing: yeah, last year I had two hip replacements, ten years ago I had a heart transplant, I take a million different pills and just about every member of my family was diagnosed with cancer before the age of 30
Doctor to me, later on: it’s really important that you learn how to take a good history
Me: …

a question for the more experienced/senior medics of medblr -
(probably aimed at UK medblr but any input would be fab)
joking about “medical problems for the med reg” aside - when you get phoned by a junior about a patient what do you like to hear in the first line/what makes you think it’s going to be a good referral? basically how do people who are good at discussing patients word that first line?
as a final year student now i have been asked to phone a senior about a patient (which went terribly) and also the scenario of “manage this acutely unwell patient and refer them onwards” (normally to the med reg) comes up a lot as an OSCE station in our final OSCE - and i always fumble my way through the first line following me introducing myself and that just puts the worst spin on the entire thing. normally i end up just being like “hi hello hey yes hello hi i have a patient who i think maybe would potentially benefit from some senior input and maybe might need ICU input maybe could i possibly tell you about them” which would just not float in real life. once i even accidentally ended up saying “i have a sick patient you need to see now” which i still cringe about when i remember it!
so i’m thinking if i just had a slick line or two to rely on then i would seem a lot more competent than i do at the moment!!

Flight of ideas in laymen’s terms
People with anxiety don’t have a train of thought. We have seven trains on 4 tracks that narrowly avoid each other when the paths cross and all the conductors are screaming.

JOINTS IN MOTION
As said by IFL science
Cameron Drake of San Francisco has created a collection of magnificent images showing joints in motion. He was aided by orthopedic physician Dr. Noah Weiss and the finished product is completely amazing. If you’d like to know more about the project, please check out Drake’s blog.
