I don’t have enough brain cells to understand who/what fortnight is about… the neighbor and husband references?

okay, so like taylor said, fortnight is sort of a prologue to the entire album. it references a lot of other songs (down bad, florida!!!, peter, guilty as sin?) there are a few different ways that it could be read, and i may not stick to this interpretation, but the below is where i landed.

fortnight sets the scene for the entire album and the events that are about to unfold by telling a story about an alternate reality about the future she was headed to in which she and joe ignore their problems, stay together, and build the life they're planning. she's in need of psychiatric help, she's drinking, she's depressed. but the other guy has re-entered her orbit. they're going to keep crossing paths. she feels insane. he's right there. she is insane. her husband cheats on her; she's enraged at him. the other guy is married to someone great; she's enraged at her too. she feels insane. she is insane, because she's fully consumed with the anger of following the bad path instead of taking the risk.

so at the end of the song, she decides she has to run for it. she has to move to america. she has to go to florida and start over. she has to buy the car and let him touch her instead of just daydreaming about it. because if she doesn't scratch the itch, if she doesn't see what happens, if she doesn't chase the guy that's been her "what else?" then well, how will she ever know? and the rest of the record is her realizing that maybe she wishes she hadn't.

This is giving heavy "Style" vibes specifically if the "never quite buried" because they come back every time.

The fact she uses stitching seem honestly random to the point I feel like she definitely added it to indicate his stiches/aka "Out Of The Woods".

This whole thing feels like more of a jab at young Harry, he was known as a playboy and he kept playing with her heart. At some point he told her she'd "changed him" because he just wanted her. The talks of paintings, ink bleeding and the "never before, and ever since" all screams at me a mixture of "the rest of the World was black and white but we were in screaming color" and then "Did I paint your bluest skies the darkest gray?" from the male's POV in Coney Island as well as "you've taught me a secret language and you showed me colors you know I can't see with anyone else". Also how Harry's entire feed was B&W for a long time on Instagram before 1989 release.

I mean 1D has a song called "Steal My Girl" as well as the fact I do believe he "stole" her from Calvin and probably Joe at some points.

How did you guys do it

A few days after the re release of 1989 TV. I randomly watched a YT short explaining how the target track " Wonderland" is about Harry Styles. Before this I was never interested in any of the stories of Taylor's bfs, like I only listen to her because of the songs. LOL, I was never a swiftie, I only listen to singles and I kinda stop listening after Lover since I don't feel relate to her songs anymore. But then the whole YT short happen and suddenly I trace every evidence possible about these two through their songs. BTW I lived through the OG RED and 1989 and I even used to hate Harry since he broke her heart or sthg bla bla idk just some dumb tabloid I read back then. Anyway that's how I turned myself into a Haylor truther and a Swiftie and a Harrie :)))

Lately all of my belief in Haylor got shattered since everything I thought was the Haylore turn into Maylore ewwww can't believe I was able to type that. The idea makes me sick physically and mentally. That's insane really, ughhh

Perhaps we underestimate Matty Healy's role in haylor breaking up in 2015. I think TS might have been more enamored by MH at some point of time because he was part of this critically acclaimed indie band and had given her album a shoutout by wearing the 1989 T shirt. I think Taylor does seek validation from indie groups cos they used to diss her in the past. HS on the other hand was a pop star, was part of a hugely successful boy band that didn't win any critics Awards, and didn't write or control much of his music because the label hired people to do it for the band. So, he did not have the kind of musical icon aura that he has now. He was just a teenage heart throb at the time and his attention probably didn't mean as much to Taylor as that from an upcoming indie band's front man. Maybe even HS felt like he wasn't as good as MH at that point. This could have led to tensions. While, MH probably resented both for their commercial success.

MH has consistently denied dating Taylor in 2014, this is pure speculation they did date. The 2014 MH interactions happened between 19 November 2014 and 8 December 2014. In those 19 days Harry and Taylor were seen together three times. Harry and Taylor broke up 5 weeks later and Calvin was a month after that.

The start is the concert, I say ended 8 December because that’s when Matty lost it onstage and there was a blind he slept with Lindsey Lohans sister which was later reported.

In 16 January 2015: while Harry and Taylor were still together he said:

Right cuz it's Taylor Swift , yet we met each other we exchanged numbers in the same way that a lot of people in this kind of world do. We spoke occasionally and then she's the biggest pop star in the world, I'm in Australia there's no like relationship or or anything happening. For me, it also parallels Slut! and the part where she thinks it's worth it to be called horrible things if she gets to be with him. It parallels in the way that she gets called crazy for still talking about him and that she gets called sexist slurs just for dating him. Like, in the end, it makes her look bad to others.

Now this just reminds me of her basically just being "down bad" or deeply in love. Like some:

It can also be about their "greatest unspoken dialogue ever." Like even if haylors theorize what all these "dialogues" mean, it would always just come back to it's their conversation, their encounters, their world.

Now, this one is the part where people thinks this is the reason why this is not about Harry, and more leaning to MH (Not gonna lie I did too but I just think there's more "facts" leaning into Harry more than MH), because that man has just the worst history or something. But the things is I interpreted this part as more like the "indecent exposures" being like his dating history and being known as a "ladies' man" and dating older women. But I dunno lmao. I'm not that exposed to Harry's life but I do know that mans is not a saint and is involved with issues and sht.

I despise how they undermine harry’s impact on her relationship with love. The only reason people pretend this too is because they hid the length and depth of it. It wasn’t a 3 month relationship, it was a 3-year run of back and forth PLUS 7 more years of marriage and subdued communication.

People say they dated 3 months and it was PR because that 3 months was so public. They were back in London at the same time weeks after that.

Ed once said of Taylor, which I think sums it up well:

I feel like industry friendships when you hang out you post a picture and people know you've hung out. Whereas [Taylor will] come around for dinner, [...] we have catch up calls for like three hours but like no one will know. (To Audacity)

I imagine it’s a real balance between a real relationship, privacy and feeling supported and loved. To Time Taylor said:

“When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care,” she says. “The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. I think her ideal is something like what Blake and Ryan have, everyone knows they are together but they don’t get hounded like Taylor or Harry do.

Y’all literally forget that Taylor connected the Cardigan mv to Harry’s mv ‘Fallin’ and then for these songs to come out and be about rat Matt bc they dated briefly again & to have the audacity to really think Peter and all these other songs are about him? They’re so Harry coded. I can’t with Swifties right now. Matty was going after Taylor but not that Taylor initially wanted him when everything was going downhill with Joe.

Taylor probably didn’t want to make rat Matt feel bad so she said it was about him, but that song is not about him. This is exactly what she did with Calvin when she connected ‘IKP’ with him and dedicated it to him , when it was about Harry.
