very delayed and minor story update

hiiii

i kind of dropped off the face of the earth, especially in terms of everything the stars promised! i was out of town weeks ago when the last few posts went up from the queue, and then i haven't really been around too much to update the links and all, but...

that said, my plan is to update the navigation links and also not-tzr-but-also-kind-of-tzr the last few posts, even though it's been a while, just because i'm trying to be better about the whole tzr thing!

outside of that, i'm not sure when i'll be able to post more actual story content. i have about three posts in my drafts, but i'm graduating in may, and i'm down to the last month and a half-ish of college, so i'm short on free time to write and play sims. it's basically crunch time irl while i wrap up my senior thesis. but we'll see - i might drop the updates i already have finished soon, and then i'll post more when i have the time!

Gregory: Ladies, it has been an experience getting to know all of you...but I regret that one of you shall have to leave tonight.

Amalie, Demelza, Gabrielle, and Vivian don't have the highest relationship scores, so they got pink roses. Marie-Claude and Mathilde were tied for first place, and thus got red roses. But no matter the color, everyone was thrilled as could be!

Isadora: Wait...where are MY roses?

Gregory: Isadora, I have tried so hard to find you agreeable--but I think we simply were brought up too differently. I should like to remain friends, in time, but you must leave. Isadora: Have at thee, sirrah!

(I had no idea this was going to happen. Good lord, Isadora, where are your manners?! I think it was the right choice to have you leave. I am sorry, because she had the most funny facial expressions, but I suppose someone has to be the first to go? I even tried to give her another chance, and she just...doesn't click well with Gregory.)

A minor disturbance in the Force later...everyone is compelled to assemble in the drawing-room and have a little chat.

Gregory: So they made me take lots of exercise, and then they had me paint a lot of pictures, and now I'm less likely to feel distress when I can't reach a location on the floor. But nothing really helped with the floor-clipping...

Gregory: Salieri? Fah! He's a hack! Mathilde: But you have such a lovely house--I think it would make his works more enjoyable if they were performed on the grounds...

Gregory: Diplomacy, old boy. Stiff upper lip. Think of Simnation.

Gregory spent quite a bit of time talking to Marie-Claude!

Gregory: And then the image is projected on the opposite wall, but upside-down! It's quite magical! Gregory: What do you think of the moon, Miss Delveaux? Marie-Claude: Oh, Mr. Beaumaris, I don't spend much time looking at the moon...

(Here I don't know WHY, but Gregory refused to talk to Isadora despite being directed to four times. He literally pouted at me!)

Gregory: Are you familiar with the story of the battle of Marathon? Isadora: No wonder you're hosting this contest, if you think that's how to woo a lady!

Gregory once again talks about his house. Gabrielle finds this even more irresistable than normal.

Gregory: And the foundations are sinking a little into the mud...

Upon realizing that Amalie is a virtuoso, Gregory got very excited!

Somehow I think you couldn't sleep that well in a flooded basement...

I don't think that's a very historical outfit there.

Amalie: I can't take it anymore! Something's keeping me from walking six inches to Mr. Beaumaris! I don't know what it is!

(It's the basement beneath them...which is apparently a swimming pool. Yes, Gregory is SWIMMING through the floor and his clothes, which he stripped off in front of a room of young ladies! Shame on him. Also I'm concerned about Ferncombe Hall's structural integrity...)

I don't recall the Mr. Darcy swimming scene in the '95 Pride and Prejudice looking like that. Also it's 17-something, Gregory. Where on earth did you get those muscles?!

Marie-Claude is clearly watching "How it's Made."

Why we don't see the downstairs crew--they're up to their knees in mysterious water, which is also why any attempts at eating non-buffet food results in one of the servants running to the river to drop their trays in the sand. I suppose the laundry is pre-soaking.

The Bachelor Beaumaris, 2.2

After the hunt, the contestants retreat to the drawing room for some socialization. Gregory talks about two things: idle chit-chat, and horses. Girls like horses, right?

Gregory: And the poor lad painted--can you believe this--Potoooooooo on the stable door!

As you can see, Amalie doesn't find this as amusing.

Gregory's conversation with Demelza went about the same (apparently nobody really likes hearing random horse trivia?), though a distressing lack of speech bubbles prevents the Watcher from writing a witty caption.

Gregory: And the piece was really quite moving... Isadora: (thinking) How much would it cost to repaint these walls something other than brown?

Isadora's response to Gregory's discussion of horses ended poorly; they both lost favor with each other. I wonder what she said!

Gregory: It's like Welsh Rarebit, but there's an extra piece of bread on top... Marie-Claude: (thinking) Daisies. I think I'll carry daisies at our wedding. Marie-Claude: But if you put the clotted cream on top of the strawberries... Mathilde: (thinking) Oh, that's it, I'm finished, I know nothing about desserts all of a sudden, I wish the earth would swallow me whole...

Gregory: Having a house is capital, absolutely capital!

(At times like this I wished I actually played with sound on so I could try and glean some other meaning from the conversation. I'm a bit bored of him going on about his house!!!)

Gregory: And so the Duchess was almost kicked out of the townhouse, and if the Viscountess of ---- hadn't interceded, she would have been quite separated... Vivian: (thinking) Townhouse...if I marry Gregory, I could have a fashionable townhouse! Perhaps in Bath. And have all the latest furniture...and ride in a sedan chair... Vivian: ...and it comes in a glass bottle, but it's much softer and somehow much tougher than glass, and it bubbles like mineral-water...

(WHY were they discussing divorce and soda??? I know I need to put in the "historical speech bubble contents" mod, but I keep forgetting...)

Anyways, here are our ladies' relationship scores now that we've had some more socialization. I've rounded these numbers to the nearest tenth.

Our next part of the challenge begins; don't ask where the prey animals magically appeared from. Perhaps the butler is in the underbrush shaking pots and pans?

Amalie gets both a deer and a pheasant.

Demelza gets a deer and a pheasant as well!

So, too, does Gabrielle.

Isadora is less fortunate, and misses the mark on the deer; she does bag a pheasant. Good thing this isn't for actual sustenance.

Marie-Claude gets both deer and pheasant, restoring the extraordinary run of luck.

So too does Mathilde! And she doesn't even faint once.

Finally, Vivian also ends the hunt with a bag full of game.

The next morning, there is a breakfast (of cookies), as Gregory waxes rhapsodic about mawwiage.

Gregory: I know you ladies are here for the right reasons...and I've got to trust the process...but gadzooks, do I want to get married, and fast.

Why's everyone in hunting gear? Why is there a...cowboy-themed bull-rider?

Background music: From a find to a check, from a check to a view / From a view to a kill in the morning.

Gregory, after some directional assistance, addresses the crowd.

Gregory: My future wife will need to keep up with me on a horse...and be a crack shot if we're invited to any hunts. So we're going "riding"! and then hunting!

(The Watcher would like to clarify that all proceeds from the hunt will be donated to the Dragon Valley food bank.)

I'd never seen someone do this before, and I thought she'd bought it for sure--but Isadora walked away with the "Conquered the Bull" moodlet! Impressive!

Mathilde is practicing her best orange-polishing wave. I think she has the wrong idea about Ferncombe Hall's place in the peerage.

Poor Marie-Claude is not having a good time, ladies. Please think about something other than sandwiches, cutlery (are you picking out the wedding silver???), and lifetime wants. [She got the Pwned by the Bull moodlet. Poor thing.]

Vivian, however, had the time of her life.

Nobody aside from Marie-Claude and Isadora got moodlets, so hopefully we'll get a better range of scores on the second part of the challenge, which I will play and post tomorrow.

I don't feel like it's fair to have winners and losers if only two Sims got a moodlet. It's like having a test and only two people actually put any answers in, and the others just handed in a blank paper. What kind of a curve is that?

she has an older brother! well, only on a technicality, that is. they're actually fraternal twins, but they have different birthdays. her brother, yunseok, was born at 11:57 PM on february 20th, and yunha was born at 12:01 AM on february 21st 🎉 they do, of course, consider themselves twins, and they've always just celebrated together on the 21st because that makes more sense, but they do like to joke about their "age gap!"
