Daxiushan (大袖衫) Tutorial

Here are the basics on how to draft a daxiushan, or large sleeved robe.

Daxiushan were summer garments made popular in the Tang Dynasty. They are made from light and airy fabric and known for their broad sleeves. Worn by noble ladies and courtesans for special occasions, the daxiushan has become a staple in modern hanfu for its voluminous and ethereal effect.

I recommend using extra lightweight fabrics such as organza, chiffon, or georgette to achieve the proper look. Contemporary daxiushan can even be made from sequined fabric or non-woven materials if desired.

This garment was worn by women and commonly paired with ruqun. Please see @ziseviolet​‘s tag for a better explanation and examples. 

Note: this garment requires a lot of fabric and is quite wide, if you want to make a proper pattern to save for later, make sure your paper is very large! Image from (x) (x)

Since they are loose fitting, they are very easy to size for.

Next, let’s look at a technical flat.

The robe consists of:

Main Panel x2

Sleeve x2

Collar x2

Like all hanfu there is no shoulder seam, so the front half flows across the shoulder to the back as one piece. 

The hardest part to draft and sew is under the arms. Because the panel extends out from the body and connects to the sleeves, it’s quite a tight curve and requires delicate sewing to help it remain smooth. I always recommend French seams when sewing hanfu as well as careful clipping and notching. 

The daxiushan has side slits or vents that help it flutter and move around the wearer. The height of these slits is up to the designer, but they usually start around hip level. The rest of the garment has a slight flare, but not too much since the garment is so wide to begin with. 

Because this garment is quite large, the measurements in this tutorial will be given. If you need to alter them to fit your body type please do. Giving “standard” numbers makes it easier for me to make the tutorial, and less measuring work for you!

Help two trans bitches (one of whom is severely disabled) move

Me and @pf2e live in a shitty studio apartment that already costs $800 a month and our rent will be increasing next year by a whopping $75 for a month-to-month lease. We can hardly afford this apartment as is and I've scoped out two that are significantly cheaper. We will easily afford rent in either of those apartments but we cannot afford moving costs as I recently had to clear out our savings to buy a wheelchair and we don't have enough savings even for the security deposit let alone application fees, first and last months rent, renting a U-Haul, giving a friend gas money, etc. to get out of here.

I'll draw pretty much anything for people's donations, and I can also do hand crafts, etc. Marcy does tabletop design work as well. We don't have a huge support system locally and I can barely walk around my own home. I have EDS and scoliosis and struggle with daily tasks and living in this tiny apartment doesn't make things easier as I'd like to get a power chair one of these days with help from my doctors and we just don't have space for my mobility aids, our clothes, pretty much anything. My ankle is also sprained so I've been out of work for far too long.

TLDR; this apartment sucks, it's too small, and we need somewhere with at least one bedroom and a dishwasher

I'd like to raise at least $2500 if possible. Thank you for reading, and if you need any sort of proof of our shit situation I can definitely provide. We have a bit of cash but that's all we've got as far as savings.

Inktober third!

You know I had no idea about CRinktober until a few days ago, when I had already finished and queued this. How funny that the third prompt on that list should be “armour”, when Yasha wears nothing at all in this drawing x) Yasha and her sword casually waiting for the M9 in the bath house is so iconic (I have no idea about swords either btw, so it probably looks very wrong)
