Never let your child Alone...
This story was told by my grandma and her dad who was my great grandpa, about two little kids possibly the ages between 7-9 years old a girl and boy were told to herd sheep back when my mom was girl herself so they lived out far from neighbors and stores no roads or highways were not made yet. Only trail bush roads back than so the mom, aunts and grandma’s were home they always made these kids herd sheep. The men always were away to store or help other neighbors even medicine man or in ceremonies. One day these two kids followed the sheep all day until maybe mid afternoon playing around after the herd but never knew about the bull. This bull belong to a a guy who was very mean and strict who lived far from them but his cows roamed everywhere along with that bull.
The two kids didn’t know the bull was watching them until he chased them both kids had to climb into a old abandoned hogan where the owner of that place was buried and we were always told not to bother old places where someone was buried inside it. The two kids went in there but the bull dugged after the two kids with his hooves and horn. My grandma told me that the bull had huge horns and hump on it’s back. He was the type of cow that wasn’t scared of horses.
The bull got into the old abandoning hogan and crawled in chasing those kids out of there. They were along ways from home. Just open spaces and hills along with few trees that weren’t even tall enough but the kids possible climbed the tree. The bull rammed over and over until it broke.
The bull got the kids and ate them. Back home the women got worried because the sheep came home without the two kids. The men came home the next day and went to neighbors homes asking if they seen the kids. They search tracking the sheep trails and found the tracks of the bull with kids foot prints. They went to the old hogan and seen that the bull followed the kids and found the kids all in pieces. They scalp and parts even hair were all over the place.
The men gathered and one man saw the bull laying around under a tree with a head of one kid. They knew who that bull belong too and went to that mean guy home. He had to see for himself. Sure enough, his bull had eaten the two kids. They call my great grandpa to help and hunted down this bull. Killed the bull and burned it. I heard it was huge bull who had no fear of anyone. My grandma told me this story because she remembered it all.
I know where that happen and to this day I don’t like see kids walking alone. Never know what animals might be out there. My grandma and grandpa always told us never let your child alone and watch them. It was better told one more detail in Navajo but was scary and sad story for me.

Who's There?
On Saturday night my husband and I were sleeping in our rustic cabin in the bush (no plumbing, electrical, etc). We were woken up at 3:00 AM by knocking on the door which startled us both. I whispered for him to call out and he yelled "who's there?". There was no one there, and the motion sensor solar light at the porch didn't come on. Does anyone else believe this is an omen of death? Many years ago my Grandpa opened the door to knocking in the middle of the night and no one was there. He went back to bed and told my Grandma someone died. The next morning he received news of his sister's death. Now we wait...

There was no one there.
About 12 years ago I was sleeping in my room when I could hear done come into my room because I could hear the floorboards shifting but since it was dark I could not clearly see them so I shouted got them to get out and then rolled over to sleep again but could still hear some standing there do I got up turned on the light but there was no one there.
I could hear my brothers stereo blasting as him and his friends were partying before I went to bed so I went to ask who came into my room but when I got to the kitchen nobody was there. The patio and main doors were wide open same with the windows so I shut the stereo off the close the doors and windows then headed to bed again but as soon as I was about cover up I heard the stereo go off so I got up thinking my brother had got back so I went to tell them to lower the music, but when I got to the everything was open again the stereo was on again and nobody was there. I repeated what I had done before but this time I unplugged the stereo as that was the first time it turned itself on then I searched to see if someone was playing a prank on me but once again there was no one there.
I had just got inside from looking around when I could hear someone talking in my basement so I ran down there and found nothing. As I walked upstairs I could hear my brother and them I went check if it really was them because I was pretty freaked out by what had happened. My brother told me they had been gone for a couple hours. wth???

Del Two Crow
My sister went on a search mission for a person went missing on our Rezz, or actually our Community called Green Grass in late 80s early 90s. He was drinking with relatives on West End, and was staying with Relatives in the newly built Community Housing, on East Side. He left at night and was not seen. So his Relatives reported him missing. After a cpl days, they started a search party. My sister said they followed his tracks behind our Community Church, where he fell off a very high cliff to the bottom, where the river runs. It was like winter and she said parts of the river was ice and other parts still ran with icy cold water. They saw that after he fell, he went into the river and when he came out; there were little girl foot prints came out of the Water with him. Remember, those old time white tennis shoes with pointy toes, those were that kind of foot prints. They led him up out of river and when he almost got to his cousins they turned him around and led him back to river. So it was in and out of river at several intervals, and each time, the tracks led him back to river. A couple of miles downstream, he was found frozen all kicked back by river with legs up and crossed like hes fishing with toothpick in his mouth. His name is Del Two Crow.

"I don't get cold..."
1990. I was 19 working at my first job for a beer distributor Warehouse (Miller-Lite). I was on 2nd shift, I'd usually clock-out just after 1:00am, I was still living with my parents and was driving my Dad's little beat up Dodge Dakota to and from the job, my Dad was very religious, he had a little plastic Jesus glued to the dashboard and a Saint Christopher medal on a chain hung around the rearview. Well, one night as I was leaving work I pulled into a convenience store for some gas and some grub, as I'm pumping fuel these 3 young punks (16 or 17?) walk out of the darkness. one of them, the leader of the three asked me.. "Can you give us a ride, we're just heading down the road a few miles, it's cold, man?" I was about to say "no", but then he hands me like three $1 bills and says.. "We got beer & weed at the crib, you can hangout for awhile, C'mon be cool, man!" I was Young & Stupid so I said.. "Yeah F**k It, but y'all gotta ride in the back and freeze your ass off until we get there!" they say "ok" and jump in the bed of the truck. as they jump in the one who did all the talking says to me.. "I'll knock on the window when we get to the street and the house, pull to the very back of the driveway when we get there!"
I finish pumping gas and open my driverside door when a skinny girl not much older than me wearing jeans, a short sleeve shirt and no jacket walks up. she stared at me with a scared look and asked.. "can I ride in front with you?" I was asking silently to myself.. "Where'd she come from? How come she's got no jacket, it's freezing?" but I figure she was with the three in back and I just didn't see her initially. so I motion for her to get in and she climbs in and slides across to the passenger side and turns her head away from me, just staring out the passenger window. as I pull out of the parking lot I say to her.. "Sorry but the heater doesn't work." and she says.. "I don't get cold." I'm telling you it was like °20 degrees that night. we ride in silence a few miles when we got to some dark neighborhood streets I wasn't to familiar with. I hear a raping at the back window, the leader of the group was signaling me to turn down the next block. right then the girl comes to life and says.. "Go to that store up ahead and drop us off!" she pointed to an all night convenience store just a few blocks ahead on the corner. again the dude in the back knocks on the window yelling.. "Right Here, Turn Here!" I put my right turn signal getting ready to turn into the street he wants to go to when she yells at me.. "No Don't, They're Gonna Jack You When You Get There!" - "That's What They Do, They'll Drag You Out, Beat The F**k Out of You, Cut You and Take Your Shit, Your Truck, Everything!" - "Go to the Store, They Won't Do Anything There, Park Right in Front and Just Take Off When We Get Out!" so I do as she says, I drive quickly and park in front of the store's front doors. I hit the brakes she gets out fast heading away from the store toward the street. the three in back aren't getting down though, I lock the doors fast, turn to the back window and the little leader of the bunch has his face up against the window smiling at me, and laughing yells.. "You Missed the Street, Man.. We're Still Gonna Party Right!" I shout to him and his pals.. "Get Out Here, Rides Over!" the other two jump off but the that one dude is still sitting there looking at me, still smiling! I hear one of the other two guys say to him.. "C'mon Flaco, F**k That Dude the Clerk's Watching, Let's Go!" he finally jumps off and all three head away from the store toward the road. as I'm leaving the parking lot I turn my head toward them, one of them flips me off and the other two are laughing, but I don't see the girl? I turn left slowly onto the street in the direction she walked off toward but I don't see her, she just disappeared?
I've thought about that night many a time.. Yeah, I think how real young & stupid I was, but I also can't help but wonder about her, after all she never spoke to them, they never spoke to her and the way she just disappeared, like she was never really there? I'm not religious, never really have been but I also think about my Dad's little plastic Jesus glued to the dashboard and the Saint Christopher medal hung around the rearview, Saint Christopher is the Patron Saint of all travelers.

She Called Our Names.
When I was little, my dad took me to my first funeral and I was about 7 or 8 years old maybe even younger, I just know I was really small because I still stuttered really bad. We were at the cemetery putting my family friend's coffin in the ground and were also throwing cigarettes, semaa, offerings and medicine pouches in with her when I heard a young girl laughing behind me in the woods. I was the only young girl and my brother was the only little boy so it didn't click right for me. So I started trying to follow the laughter to figure things out and I had just reached the tree line when my dad came up behind me and like ripped me backwards by the shoulder and hucked me to the ground, practically in a whole panic fit. He was all like "what the hell you think you're doing?" and I was just like "don't you hear the girl laughing tho?" pointing up into the woods. He went stiff and pale and just said "no i don't, and you don't hear anything either," as he like dragged me back to the open grave where everyone else was. The whole time, I was made to hold hands with my aunt as I could still hear the laughter through the woods. I kept asking people if they could hear her but they all said no, except my brother who said he could hear her too but he was scared of her because she called out our names. People ended up avoiding me and my brother like the plague after that as my dad spoke to some of the elders and his siblings. That night, my dad chucked me and my brother in a kiddie pool of sage and cedar water, smudged my house like thousands of times a day and kept black ash on our heads for like a month because it is apparently bad bad to bring young ones to funerals. Though, he was always more worried for me than my brother because I put in such an effort to try following it and that I wasn't afraid of it at all either like my brother was.

Whispers in the Attic.
I have had some pretty crazy things happen to me and as a rule I keep them to myself because most people would call me nuts. I am glad that Native people know that there is more to this world than what meets the eye. I have many stories but I will start with this one as it happened last night. Around 11 pm my daughter called and was hysterical. She was crying so hard I was having trouble understanding her. So it turns out that she was working on some renovations in the kitchen and her husband was upstairs listening to music. She said she became aware that something sounded off. He likes that kind of music that sounds like people are yelling but something was weird. So she went upstairs to check on him. His music was blasting, but what she was hearing was his screams and him beating on the attic door. There is a deadbolt on the outside of the attic door to keep it from opening. When she got him out he told her he had been hearing whispers in the attic and went in to look and then the door slammed shut and the dead bolt clicked itself in. He had been locked in there for nearly half an hour screaming for help but because his music was so loud she did not hear him. The deadbolt is one of those that you slide and then it fits into a hole. There is no way that deadbolt could have accidently locked. The other creepy thing about this story is that he said he turned the music off before he went in the attic. After he went in and the door slammed and the dead bolt clicked his music came back on.

The Tallman
So I remember hearing this from my grandma. Kinda a grimy tale to keep us children inside. One night, my older sister asked why the cops patrolled Eagle Butte after curfew (which was after 10 p.m.) and she said it was because when she was younger and our mom was our age, there was these two kids who played at the park near a baseball field (Shupick Park) after 10 p.m. Behind the playground was tall grass with creepy, slider-looking trees with a slightly used park table. Anyways, the parents noticed they haven’t came back for hours that night and called the police near the park for two missing boys. A couple cop cars were sent out to the last place where they were seen and at and it didn’t take long to find the bodies. The two boys’ bodies were found in the long, tall grassfields behind the park, mutilated with cuts on their arms, missing eyes, and missing tongues on both of the boys. So the cops reported the bodies and possible time of death from the wounds and assumed they may have been either chewed from the local pack of rez dogs or many assumed it was Tallman. Dogs wouldn’t do something that specific to the boys’ bodies and nearly as similar to each other with the cuts and missing tongues and eyeballs. Some say it was the work of the Devil from the local Lutheran church or a crazy murderer on the loose by logical parties. As the sun was about to rise up, the police were done searching for what might’ve killed them, reporting them, and put in body bags for evidence. As they were about to go back to the station, they received a phone call from the ambulance crew that the bodies were missing when they arrived at examination. They cops wanted to believe it was a joke, but for sure, they knew they saw the ambulance crew put the bodies and and drove away. They headed down at the examination and the other squad car looked around the streets where the boys’ bodies might have ended up at the ambulance’s path. To this day, nobody knew what happened to the bodies or never found them again, so to prevent this from happening again, they set a curfew to avoid any more unknown slaughter, especially at the park where the cops would sometimes stop at for patrols or on break.

It was calling your name.
This happened back in 2014 around October. I work at a factory here on the Navajo Nation. There was only 2 of us working on this particular night. I was working with a lady. Anyway, it was very windy and raining very hard that night. We were working on the evening shift. We got off work around about midnight. We were walking back to our vehicles that were parked in the parking lot. It was very dark. Just as we walked under one of the power lines that run across the area we heard an owl. It was making noise in the dark on one of the power lines. As we walked under the line something crazy happened. The owl called my name. It called out my first and last name. The lady freaked out. She said Omg...did you hear that...its calling your name. It called my name out again and when it did that...I stopped and started yelling profanities at it. I said f**k you...you are afraid of me...so you hide in the dark and call my name!! I said...I'm not afraid of you...whoever you are!! Show yourself you coward!! When I said that it started pouring rain very hard and we heard several coyotes start howling behind the building we had just came from. The lady jumped on me holding on to me in fear. They started howling even louder. She took off running to her truck. She jumped in and tore out of the gate. She left me behind. I just walked back to my truck calmly. I started it and parked outside the gate and locked up the gate. I continued yelling profanities towards the owl and coyotes. I drove back home and burned some cedar and said a prayer. Nothing ever happened. Maybe they were trying to scare me. But it didnt scare me. When you experienced as much as I have you kinda become immune to it. There are some things that do scare me but you cant let them see your fear. They feed off of your fear. My story's true. I dont have the imagination to make up such things.

The Island.
About five years after WWII, my mom and dad headed out to an island to dig for clams. This was before I was born. My dad had a tremendous time in the war and was hardened and nothing scared him.
They had a seiner-- a large boat that could bring in tons of salmon during salmon season, plus a skiff for maneuvering the seiner. They used the skiff to go to the island and Dad put up a large WWII tent for him and Mom. As it got dark Dad lit up a big fire and they had dinner.
Time to go to bed and Dad put out the fire. They laid down in the tent and about three hours later--maybe 1:00am-2:00am-- they heard footsteps on the beach. There were round rocks on the beach so they could hear the shoes rolling under the pebbles. As it got to their tent, it stopped. Dad got up and said, "I got a rifle in here and I'm not afraid to use it!" Dad grabbed the rifle and ran outside to see what was out there.
At that moment Mom screamed! There was a big cut in the tent and something had pulled off her cross from her neck and threw it so hard into the ground it was buried almost completely! She ran to Dad, and together they went to the large seiner for the night.
The next day they went back to survey the damage, and the firewood was thrown all over and the inside of their tent was trashed. Two small branches formed the sign of the upside down cross inside the tent! Mom and Dad packed up their stuff and left that island in a hurry. They never went back. Years later a crew of 3 went to the island to go clamming and their small boat sank. All three died in the accident. Was something ungodly living on that island?
