"Not unless you want a lecture in Italian later," Isaac replied, rolling his eyes in amusement. But he got, yeah, Seb and Elli had always traded stories about their exploits, roamed Pixie's together, they weren't much difference in age than himself, or Elli wasn't at least, but his younger brothers had always gravitated to each other as partners in crime, so to speak.
None of them wanted to see Seb or Gem unhappy, but he had a feeling that for Elli it was also missing those nights out with Seb.
It felt entirely too grown up to recognize how his younger siblings tackling more serious relationships, breakups and all that messiness.
"I'm not saying no, don't do it; I'm just saying you'll suffer." He joked, rolling his shoulders in a shrug. "Are you supposed to be the professional wingman in the family? Might have to save them both from their angst."

"Potentially, wouldn't be Seb if he wasn't set on being elusive," he mused, although it was more humored than anything else. He still had every confidence in Seb to eventually enjoy the evening. Gem too. Elli already had a good start on it.
He was an optimist.
He was also there to make sure everyone got home and all the other little details of keeping an eye on his brothers, sure, but beyond that it was nice to just spend some time with them. Somewhere in all the noise of work, relationships, kids...just life; he didn't have as much to spend as he used to.
"Worst case he meets someone and forgets we exist for the night, right?" He chuckled, 'worst' being very objective, of course; it was supposed to be a night out for most of them, after all.

Avery back paddled a bit, eyes wide at the strange creature, glancing quickly over to make certain it wasn't something scary. The creature didn't look scary, he just wanted to make certain, just in case, because so many creatures were very new to him. "Do they bite?" He voiced, peering back at the seal as it came closer.
Isaac wasn't certain what to make of the encounter, Avery was near enough to the shore to be safe, the animal seemed friendly; had it gotten lost from somewhere? NTO might have been the most likely explanation in that, but it wasn't really close enough for a seal to travel. People had unusual pets, sorcerers had familiars - but those usually spoke, so it was baffling.
"Sometimes, but I think if you're nice they might be too," he reassured him, Avery was very cautious by nature already. "You can stay here at the shore with me and we'll see if they want to come any closer, okay?"
He didn't think the creature was dangerous but it still safer to keep Avery within reach anyway.
"See, they're waving back," Isaac encouraged with a smile.
Avery lifted a scaled, webbed hand from the water to wave again, giggling when the gesture was returned, some of the hesitance melting away with it. "Can you talk?" He called out, earned an amused chuckle from Isaac - Avery had seen plenty of animals that could speak so the question wasn't surprising, and a bit endearing.
"I don't think seals can talk," the little elf confirmed, sounding just a bit disappointed. "And they don't have fingers so I guess they can't sign like auncle Devyn either."

Isaac couldn't really see if there was anything in the water, rumors had been circling for a while that some manner of creature lurked there, a very distant attack that had made him apprehensive about Avery being in the water initially until months of caution at the lake had still found things quiet. And Avery would have left the water quickly anyway if he was actually frightened of something, Isaac knew that.
But he never mentioned anything being there, other than the fish he chatted with or the frogs and other little aquatic wildlife he found so interesting.
"Maybe it wants to hide," Isaac suggested, more as a way of convincing Avery to leave the water without worrying him. "We might have interrupted it trying to sleep."
Avery sighed, he never liked leaving the water. He liked his scales, his fins, his tail, and he liked the water across his gills, how he didn't feel clumsy there like he did on land. Because of course he'd never had to live on land before he'd gotten lost. But, well, he couldn't always stay in the water there.
"Okay," he finally agreed, but he was disappointed. For a second anyway, because then he spotted the shiny creature's head above the water and pointed. "Look! See! Not a fish."
Isaac was, naturally, a bit surprised himself to see the sudden bobbing appearance of the so-called monster. "Is that a seal?" He really didn't have anyone to ask, because Avery wasn't familiar with them, and there was nobody else around. But honestly he was told caught off guard not to.
How did a seal get all the way there? There weren't any coastlines that close to town.
"What's a seal?" Avery immediately asked, because it obviously wasn't a fish. Then, the mystery solved, he turned to wave again at the creature. "Hello seal! Were you sleeping?"

It wasn't a fish, Avery decided, because it didn't speak like a fish. So he didn't know what the odd creature was, but he wasn't exactly afraid, not in the water; he was much faster in the water than on the land where everything felt clumsy. And if it had teeth, well, they must not have been very large if he couldn't see them.
He could see the fins and tail but they weren't like his own and they weren't like the merpeople in books - he hadn't really met one in person yet - so he didn't know what it was! His own tail flicked in the water, steadying his balance as he kicked and drew closer, just a little because he could hear the sound even if it didn't have the right words.
Staying under the water was no problem, his gills handled that, but after a few seconds he started to realize he was much further from the shore than he meant to be and quickly surfaced, looking around, a tiny hint of panic until he saw the shore.
"It doesn't talk like a fish," he exclaimed, looking back downward. "It was making a funny noise though."
Isaac, who assumed the lake was safe but couldn't fully deny it was possible something might be lurking there, kept his voice even so it wouldn't make Avery worry, but he was watching the water too. "It doesn't? Hmn, maybe you should come back over here so I can see it too?" The longer the little boy talked the more convinced he was that Avery really had seen something, and he didn't want him so far out of reach.
Avery nodded, diving back down and waving to the shimmery, sleek creatures as he swam closer to the bank, popping back up before the water got too shallow. "Where'd it go?"

"You don't want to get in?"
The question had an obvious answer, but that rarely stopped it from being voiced, nearly every trip to the lake. And Isaac did feel a little bad that the answer was nearly always no, but it couldn't be helped; the air was still chilly enough and the thought of the water made him want to shiver.
"I think I'll just watch," he chuckled as Avery disappeared beneath the water again, surfacing a bit further away from the spot on the bank where Isaac was braving the cool ground close enough to keep track of him. Not that he had many worries about what Avery might get up to; the little boy was probably safer in the water than he was on land. Definitely more at home there.
"When it's warmer?" Avery asked, head and edge of his magenta-scaled shoulders visible, the color bleeding into a bright yellow around his throat, face and the crest of fin that ran down his back and disappeared under the lapping waves. "Maybe then?"
Isaac nodded and Avery dove back under the waters once more, only the glimmer of his tail flicking behind his legs as he sank into the waters. Isaac didn't say go too far, he knew the little boy was too cautious not to stray where he couldn't return quickly.
Which made it more surprising when Avery surfaced suddenly, looking around, peering downward. He could see just fine in the water, which was why he'd been caught off guard by unexpected motion.
"I saw something!" Avery proclaimed, then frowned as he drifted a bit closer to the bank, just in case. "I think. Not a fish, it looked...funny," trailing off, he dipped back under the cool waters, glancing around with wide cyan eyes glowing faintly in the murky lake.
He had seen something, he was certain!

"Well, I think that sort of idea could be very beneficial to town." Isaac mused, because credit where it was due; Drakken was loud and at times demanding, but the man was very intelligent and if he could reason out these sort of things for his own property maybe it did have bigger applications. That couldn't be overlooked just because it took some ego stroking to get him to share.
And Isaac was looking at the possibilities, that was his job.
"Let's see if we can look into the budget for town safety," he speculated, something he would have to discuss of course, but the discussion could be done while the paperwork was already in place. "Something like this could fall under that, and speed things along, if the equipment was used to test something that might benefit the town in the long run. You'd just be testing it privately," he reasoned, "I'm sure people would appreciate us supporting some of our scientific minds in the community along with our Magicks working at improving our disaster preparedness."
"I do know," he nodded, writing a quick note down on a pad laying on his desk, "I grew up here but I still know the magic can be unpredictable. I think about that more these days because of Avery."
He stepped back away from the desk, tucking the note into the pile of paperwork there. "Alright Mr. Drakken, let's see what we can do about getting a few strings pulled. That fence though...that one you may just have to settle for my help on it," he chuckled, "that one really does come down to insurance claims."
@dr-drckken
If he'd even tried to follow Drakken's logic of knowing what he would do, for whatever reason it was that Drakken was convinced of the fact, he'd probably just end up with a headache. And another round of ranting. Neither of which he wanted. Especially not since he actually was trying to help the incredibly difficult man.
It was an... interesting challenge.
And there, yes, was a tiny glint of light in the conversation; Drakken clearly wanted to talk about, well, himself and his...whatever it was he was building.
"We do have a lot of strange weather just popping up," he nodded, it wasn't like there was any disagreement with that fact; and most of it was magic-related. "Can't always keep up with how quickly it changes."
He was curious, actually, about what Drakken was up to; because it did sound helpful. Which, given the way it was phrased didn't seem like something the other man was too eager to share beyond informing people of his scientific prowess. "That's an impressive amount of ingenuity," he remarked, "exactly the sort of problem solving that could benefit everyone." Hard sell? Yes. Drakken didn't strike him as overly magnanimous, but he tried to see the best in people anyway.
"Probably impressive to the whole town, actually," he added, because did it hurt to give the other man's ego a little nudge? No.

"How is it going? It's not too much longer before you leave; going to be renovating while you move? Brave man." He chuckled, between doing the same himself a few years back and just the background in construction from the family he had a good sense of what all went into things like that. Part of it was great, the decorating, picking colors and the like, part could be tedious. But ye understood exactly the want to have your home be something that suited you and all the changes that required in a new place.
He didn't doubt it would be impressive, and very distinctly Simba and Ber, when it was finished.
"Hmn, dangerous; giving me blanket permission means I'll be calling you whenever anything interesting comes up, or I'm having a long day," he laughed; but honestly he preferred that. He had a couple of friends all the way back from his uni years that were still close. It was very hard for him to say goodbye and mean it as an ending point.
"We've got a little time but I definitely need a coffee after work day or two," he mused, "just, you know, when I'm not going to be switching out craft stations and expected to stay awake for a movie night when I get home."
He was starting to feel the dull ache in his shoulder leaning against the wall so he shifted away from it; unfortunately he could talk all afternoon even if he would have liked to.

Character Name: Isaac Morey
Title/occupation: Lord
Magick Status: Gifted - Chromokinesis (Out)
Biography:
(tw: mentions of abusive relationship)
Isaac Morey was something of an extra, in terms of the necessities of the family name. With two elder brothers he knew it wouldn't likely ever land on him to carry their title. So he devoted himself to other things, ones others at home indulged but ultimately knew were hardly much use. After all, why did it matter that a nobleman knew how to do unimportant tasks like cooking or tidying up? Those were only hobbies, something to keep young Isaac entertained since he held no interest in a military career. His curiosity was steered towards his education, although that too wasn't too favorable when he was caught teaching the servants' children how to write their names.
Harmless, head in the clouds, charmingly optimistic Isaac; the family adored him but really was use did he have? Off to be a professor, perhaps, or something of the sort, they assumed.
Of course this was before Mads left, and Dian did as best he could as head of the house. And Isaac began to see he needed to make something of himself.
He matched his first Season, even though he did attend a bit late in years. Nobody was surprised; most assumed it would come easy to him and perhaps husband would suit him well, give him time to indulge his hobbies and still contribute to the standings of the family.
His match was excellent, in fact; the Baroness Maxine Hartsel could not have been more desired as a partner. The engagement was swift, it seemed a perfect, if not a bit typical, turn of events.
But it wasn't. Isaac鈥hanged over the course of his engagement. Withdrawn, quiet, he took more and more to himself, frequented the tavern first as a distraction and then because the owner listened to things he was hesitant to voice to his family. They were looking for him to marry, after all.
But the more Nick listened the more Isaac spoke. About his worries, about the arguments carefully hidden, his own uneasiness in the upcoming marriage.
Marrying without love was hardly unusual, but Isaac quickly discovered the Baroness marrying below her station had a different reason behind it; she was incredibly cruel, demanding, and other suitors had seen through it well before engagement. He, however, had not.
His family didn't approve of his choice to end it, not until he confessed the reasoning being the threat to his own safety. His relief in their agreement rather than press for the marriage to continue regardless a welcome breath, even if the guilt of the rumors reflecting badly on the family followed just as quickly.
The decision to marry Nick that same year came with less support, understandably; but what was there to do about it? He tried to shoulder most of the blame until the scandal settled a bit but knowing he had come so close to disaster it felt foolish not listen to where his heart was really leading him, and has tried to simply continue from there.
Of course now with Mads attending the Season Isaac isn't certain if his presence will be a help or a hindrance, but he wants desperately to be there for his brother, for his family, knowing they could have turned their back fully on him in the past but didn't. Knowing they still hold little issue him raising Avery both in their world so that his son can be educated and with Nick at the tavern his own little family calls home; one day Avery will at least have a choice in the life he decides to lead.
Isaac, however, is still somewhere between it all; wanting to support his brother through this important time but feeling, in his heart, that he just can't have much faith in the society that is so cold to anyone below their ranks.
Which, he supposes, these days includes him as well.

"I get a lot less sleep these days, I'll have the time," he laughed, definitely more thanks to Nick, but his days of crashing by ten at night had been thoroughly obliterated by a kid who barely needed sleep at all.
He wasn't going to forget, no more than he'd forgotten his friends in Camden or much of anyone else, Simba wouldn't be there, the distance wouldn't make it easy for things to be the same, but he wasn't going so far that he'd simply disappear.
"I know you'll have a lot of getting settled to do, and time for you and Ber to figure out all the new habits and places, but once you do and you want to show people around your new place?" He hadn't been to London in a few years, but it wasn't too far really. "You know I've always got summers off and finding a sitter for Avery a few days isn't that difficult."
Sometimes it was a little harder to say, at least when you were an adult and there were so many expectations about being able to handle things, don't go too far, don't forget too much. And it was easier to make plans and offers instead of thinking about how missing people was still rough no matter what your age.
"I mean it; I don't want all my Simba updates to come from stalking Instagram. You know I'm useless at that." Humor, as he rested his shoulder against the wall. "You can always call."

"Kids are much more resilient than that, I promise." He shook his head with a smile. "Just think about all the things we got into and ended up just fine? And we were all past the tiny stage already by that point; still managed to survive." He reasoned, reaching over to give his brother's shoulder a squeeze.
"Kids climb, knock things over, get bruises, bumps and everything else; and she'll be okay, and you'll be there to make all the scrapes and bruises better."
It was daunting how daring kids were, he saw it every day at work, he didn't see it as much at home yet because Avery was still a bit hesitant. But he knew that wouldn't last forever. And Elli was just doing anything pretty much any parent did; worry about things.
"Can't always protect them from every little stumble or they never learn to pick themselves back up, right? You just make sure they know a few stumbles aren't the end of the world." He gave a nod to the gate. "And we'll make sure she's safe."
"Besides," he chuckled, "you can't just think about that part; think about all the good things that come with getting bigger. She'll be talking, laughing, and running around becoming her own little person."

@dr-drckken
Drakken gave a PPPFFTT at the question because he knew that Morey knew that he knew what Morey would shred them just so he didn't have to deal with anything. He was just asking that as apart of this act he was putting on. Being a politician was so easy, no wonder they let anyone in this town run for it. All you did was answer people's questions with more questions!
He nodded, because in that moment Drakken was so convinced that he would send the link! He wanted them to refund him! Because while he hadn't paid the amount with money, he had paid for it in precious time that had been lost. Both with the time spent working on a device that was now unusable and coming down here to yell at Morey.
"It's for something I've been working on," he said. And because he couldn't resist letting people in on how absolutely brilliant he was, he felt the need to share. Even if it would be painful leaving out the part about how it was going to help him take over the world. "It will be to help me tell the weather. I don't trust the weather men, and in this town you never know when some freak demon storm is coming, I want to be prepared."
