My Dream Coat
I think I’ve done it. I am pretty sure I have found my dream coat. It’s a gorgeous, red/brown faux fur trench coat from the 80′s with a luscious collar wrapping beautifully around the neck and chest. According to the lovely ladies running the stand the original price of the coat would’ve been around £200 and I got it for £60. Not to mention this coat is as good as new which is impressive considering this coat is 40 years old. I will eat, sleep, breathe in this coat. I may even be buried in it at this rate. I don’t think I’ve needed a piece of clothing in a very long time. This is trench coat No. four for me and I don’t think I’ll purchase anymore for a really long time.
Growing up watching the 1961 “101 Dalmations” I ironically grew an appreciation for fur and feather coats. Obviously I would never support the vile fur farms where the fur is sourced from. However if I ever came across a fur coat second hand or vintage I would be lying if I wasn’t tempted. I wouldn’t want such fur to go to waste.
All the stands at the Vintage Sale had gorgeous arrays of trinkets and jewellery, fewer stands had old paintings and artworks and of course the Sale included a diverse selection of clothing ranging from the 1950s to 1990s. I went with my boyfriend who was looking out for a big trench coat himself and came home with two: an authentic RAF coat, and a slightly shorter brown leather jacket with a puffy sheep wool collar.
These days Vintage Kilo Sales or just Vintage Sales is where to get the highest quality of clothing which is sadly a rare find with modern fast fashion. I’ve been to three so far and every time I’ve met the loveliest people and the loveliest clothing. I’d recommend keeping an eye out for them in your local area.
