I wouldn't even bother trying to get to know the newcomers yet if I were you; they'll probably be completely different people after a few weeks of court life anyway.

So many new faces at court and I don't even know where to begin.

I'm fortunate, not everyone made it back; it's to be expected in a war but it's saddening all the same.

I've great to see you again though, Caradoc. How have things been faring in Cair since I've been gone?
It's been a long few months.

Ah, well yes, they're a challenging enemy to fight. Which makes it all the more great that we've succeeded so far, of course. Ouch. Thank Aslan they didn't crash straight to the ground.

Yes, Jack. It's a pleasure to talk to you, Your Grace. Perhaps you recognise me from court; I'm Julian Wingfield's... assistant.
Did anyone see that earlier today?

I know, who would have thought it? I haven't even heard much gossiping, which is the biggest surprise of them all.

Court is much more peaceful than I remember,

That's what I've been saying! Now get to work before I grow even more impatient. *pauses* Where have you been anyway?
Fine, I’ll collect the boots from you later.
*shrugs* I just haven’t been in the mood for court, that’s all.

Don't flatter yourself. *smacks him on the back of his head, grinning* The only thing that has missed you is my boots. They've been filthy for weeks.
*glances down at his boots, before gasping jokingly* Dirty boots for weeks? By the mane, how did you even survive?

When Mithian noticed Jack's presence in the stables, he bowed his head slightly in her direction in acknowledgment of her greeting and with polite respect; she was one of the Princesses of Archenland, his country of birth, after all. From what he'd heard since his arrival in Narnia, Mithian was unlike her sister - and most other noble women in fact -  in that she favoured the forests and horse riding over dancing or dresses, as well as other interests that were expected of the female gender and Princesses especially. Jack had never understood why courtiers had such adoration for clothes and the entertainment that went on in court - adventuring in to the forest seemed much more appealing to him, which could have something to do with his dryad blood. That was what interested Jack most about Mithian; her adventurous personality made her unpredictable and she seemed more similar to him than most people, so he felt like he'd just be able to act normal around her and she wouldn't question any of his hobbies and interests.
"Jack." he said, smiling in her direction. "Just Jack." He didn't know if she was just being polite or whether she just didn't know how to address him, but he had a feeling she'd forgotten their conversation about him being a mere solider and guard; maybe she'd decided to have a bit more to drink after their talk, or she had conversed with so many guests that she'd simply forgot. Brushing away his thoughts, his attention was brought back to the horse that Mithian was trying her best to comfort. "You have a good point, Princess. Although personally, I'd rather have an ugly horse that I could ride with comfort. An easy solution to the appearance problem would just be to avoid looking at it often whilst riding, right?" He shrugged a little, before glancing over to the woman. "I'm glad you invited me - I'm sure you'll be a great teacher; from what I've heard you're well-experienced with horses. Although let's just hope we find a horse that likes me more than yours does." he continued with a grin, assuming that the horse she was grooming was hers. He stayed where he was standing, deciding that it was close enough for both him and the horse - it was almost as if the horse knew how uncomfortable he was around the animals and was just as wary as he was.
Riding Lesson || Mithian & Jack
Mithian busied herself with grooming the horses, starting of course with her own. There was a list of things for her to do, so should Jack refuse, turn her down or just not come, she would be plenty busy anyway. The stable was her most favourite place to be - it wasn’t too busy, and there were never constant streams of people going through it, but there was always something to do, and the horses were better company than the courtiers, in her opinion. She didn’t know if Jack would come - perhaps he didn’t even remember the offer she had made and would have better things to do. She knew she would be returning to Archenland soon, and she wasn’t sure how many lessons she would be able to give him before she left the palace for home, but she was going to try anyway. Riding was like second nature to her - there was no one better qualified to give the man a lesson.
Every so often she would cast her eye to the door, wondering if he would indeed show. But then the horse would jerk it’s head and nudge her gently, stealing her attention again. She didn’t even hear him approach until he was a few feet away, and she looked up to see who it was. Realising that it was Jack, she smiled, and set down the brush she had in her hand. “Good morning, Sir.” She smiled, noting that she couldn’t remember if he had a title or not. Perhaps she had been a little tipsier than she had thought she was at the wedding. She hoped she hadn’t offended him. She could see that he wasn’t so comfortable with the horses, not nearly as comfortable as she, and she tried to make it easier for him. She snaked her arm around the horses neck, keeping it still as he approached. Unfortunately for him, the horse she was grooming was skittish around strangers, and she knew it would buck at the slightest wrong move. “Well, we can’t have everything, can we?” She grinned, stroking the horse’s nose. “If they were very comfortable to sit on and not very pretty, no one would try to ride them.” She let go of the horse, as she continued, “I’m glad you came - I’ve never taught anyone to ride before. But I’ll try my best, I assure you.”
