one criticism I do have of the show is there is a distinct lack of aliens - obviously not among the Imperial forces, but the way the Dhanis were spoken about last episode I would have expected there to be non-humans among them at least

lol, are Syril Karn and Dedra Meero going to be the secret siblings of this show, they both have the same sunken cheeks, creepy stares, and stick-up-the-butt attitude

“everyone has their own rebellion” - always nice when you get to articulate your show’s thesis in a single line of dialogue

I do love a production stacked to the gills with character actors - Kathryn Hunter as Eedy Karn is another one of those quintessential ‘hey, I know them’ actors (although I recently watched a filmed certain of A Midsummer Night’s Dream where she was unrecognisable - but mesmerising - as Puck).
While tonally very different, this show seems to have taken a great deal of production/foundational inspiration from the original trilogy, particularly A New Hope, which seems fitting.
The Aldhani rebel crew consisting of the Waif/Anne Neville, future Doctor Who companion, Vitus, young Alan Turing, and John Carreyrou is kind of delightful

Based on this. Did someone else come up with one? I can’t remember. Not recently in any case.
I might not be the best candidate to do this since I haven’t been keeping up with the fandom. That said, a girl needs to procrastinate.
I arranged these at random, and generally hit most of them once (at least) at one point or another. There are definitely some squares that are OMG FAVORITE FAVORITE FAVORITE.

okay but no joke the way jumanji: welcome to the jungle (2017) was a perfect reboot of an idea. the way it didn’t try to be an edgy remake and genuinely found a hearty story in inversing the premise of the original film. the way in seemlessly paid homage to the original film with the “alan parrish. he’s the guy who built this place” scene. the way the rock, karen gillan, kevin heart, and jack black embody teenage mannerisms, physically and emotionally, to PERFECTION without being condescending. the way that film genuinely has some gutwrenching moments (when Alex realises how long he’s been trapped in jumanji), really heartfelt moments (when Bethany asks Martha why they’ve never talked), and ends with a really lovely message about making mistakes and growing up. they way the film was so SO funny without relying on punch-down humour. i know a lot of people didn’t see it because of loyalty to the original and robin williams and i get that but it’s one of the few times a reboot lived up to and respected the legacy of the original material. i love it so much. it never fails to lift my spirits when i watch it.
