Just watched season 2, Quinni continues to be the best autistic representation I’ve even seen on screen.

‘The world’s never played by my rules, I spent my entire life playing by your rules. Acting like they make even the tiniest bit of sense when they don’t. Do you know how exhausting that is?’

‘I wanted you to see how much I do under the surface that no one ever sees, I’ve been performing who I thought I should be for my entire life. I don’t think I know who I am anymore’

yes. YES.

Just binge watched the whole of heartbreak high on Netflix and I have so much to say but first. Coming from someone who’s autistic, I LOVE Quinni, like I think she’s my favourite portrayal of an Autistic person ever! She so likeable and kind and a great friend and so totally her but also so totally accurate. I knew she was Autistic before she said, she’s so brilliantly portrayed without being a stereotype or characture. The meltdown after her fight with Sasha, SO realistic, I’ve had meltdowns that looked exactly like that! So often autistic characters are portrayed with all the cliches Sasha was spouting (no emotional intelligence ect.) but Quinni is such a good, well rounded, well represented character. I love her. (Ps. I hate Sasha.)

Okay this is a very small detail and I don’t know why it hit me so hard, but when Joe is telling Nicky to wake up, he says “Nicolò, destati! Destati!”

“Destati” is a word no one has used in common speech for centuries (in modern Italian we say “svegliati”). So the fact that he uses such an old-fashioned kind of language makes their relationship feel so ANCIENT, as if they’ve been together forever AND THEY ACTUALLY HAVE
