hi this is so sweet omg thank u so much <33 the ones in my drafts are actually just unfinished and im too lazy to finish but i will finish them i promise and ill post soon !!!
(so basically this is the story about connor and devon's struggles. we all love to talk about how soft and perfect they are, but we forget about the rough days, the ones where devon has a goal that she can't quit (and maybe even feelings that she can't let go) and connor just want them to move on, to be safe…)
sometimes, I just think of how Noah was jealous of Devon because of how close Devon was with Jane. So imagine his pain (that started at age eight btw) when he and Devon drift apart after his sister's death. The closeness that Devon had with Jane didn't even extend to her twin brother.
Not only did Noah think that Jane liked Devon over him, but Noah and Devon's fallout implements the idea in Noah's head that Devon also preferred Jane over him (we see this resentment over their failed friendship when he snaps at them at the party). Basically, in his mind, Noah was always second choice.
but! If you look at it from Devon's perspective, they didn't intend to hurt Noah in distancing themself; it can be seen as a coping mechanism with the "I avoided you because everytime I see you, I see her, and it hurts" type of thing, or the "I'm staying away to protect you, because I don't want another Marshall kid to die."
anywayyyyyy, the complexity of their relationship will always haunt me, because the rebuilding of their relationship also means they have to face their trauma. Devon has to face their fears surrounding Noah, and Noah has to confront his insecurities about himself and his self-worth.
i’m so sorry but can we talk abt how the writers literally put this amount of tension in here for noah and mc’s “first” interaction, like the angst, the tension… there was so much potential to make them “enemies” to lovers from the start
