Brazilian Culture: Differences #1
In Brazil to end a letter with abraços (hugs) instead of beijos (kisses) is considered extremely formal.
If you were to end a letter with abraços when writing a letter/email to a friend/family member it’s be the equivalent of saying “cordially yours” or something equally formal in English.
It’d be a pretty big snub at the recipient.
If you say abraços e beijos or beijos e abraços, however, that’s an entirely different story. That’s considered to be as friendly as “kisses” but with an extra touch of affection. Like saying “a great big hug” instead of “hug.”
