I'm pretty sure I remember that storyline. I think there's a vague implication somewhere in there that Blondie wouldn't actually care if he became fat again because he's so far gone on him (or maybe this was just desperate wishful thinking on my part), but I don't think he ever connects the dots between his crush and the dude he dissed as the same person. Tbh, Never Understand was pretty shit no matter which pairing you were looking at. I don't remember any of them not having some toxic/gross element.

So like this fat guy asks out a pretty boy and this is his response.

Only a couple of years later the fat guy loses weight and blondie here is 24/7 berating him into going out with him totally oblivious it’s the same guy.

theory: morinaga's "love" for souichi in koisuru boukun is a calculated move born from insecurity. after his ex revealed he'd been in love with his brother all along, morinaga decided he could only ever love someone he could control and who'd have no chance of escaping him. souichi is an eccentric, emotionally unstable man with no friends and limited family support, and morinaga quickly realizes this and moves to invade his life with frightening persistence, and everyone just enables him. spooky

Not a bad theory.  Personally I don’t think Morinaga is smart enough for it to be truly calculated.  Such as analyzing his support system and so on. However I think Morinaga thought something more along the lines of, “Wow nobody likes this guy for good reason.  The only kind of love he’ll ever have is mine so he’ll feel obligated to put up with me since I’m the only one who’ll care for him.”

But the fact that everybody enables him is really fucking frightening.

I mean can you imagine a family treating an individual’s rapist like the above?
