Sutton sat for me once more so I could bring this to some sort of resolution before he goes to boot camp for the National Guard tomorrow morning. Could be up to 30 weeks of training depending on specialty. He has wanted this for awhile and I am proud of him. Sutton,16x12. https://www.instagram.com/p/B4v8d7YHnab/?igshid=1dku8vu5jh2pg

This is a study of a downtown building undergoing renovation. I set up across the street for two days capturing the abstracted design made by the windows and cast shadow. This is painted on prepared birch panel which is one of my favorite surfaces to paint on. This particular panel is made by Trekell Professional Art Supplies with subtle, beveled edges and is finished in such a way as it may remain as is, propped up by a small insert in the back which acts like an easel stand or it may be traditionally framed. Available in studio sale — Click link in bio. https://www.instagram.com/p/B4PY5yMn3qP/?igshid=1nb50mboyaqpt

At our open studio last week, another painter asked if I had thought of wax along with various varnish recipes. That conversation reminded me of this process I noted previously in The Painter’s Companion by Reed Kay. This wax and turps concoction is perfect! I applied it over a few paintings which had been varnished previously and I must say it is a beautifully subtle finish which pulls the work together. Shout out to painter Denise Stewart-Sanabria http://stewart-sanabria.com  for reminding me of this!
