First things first.  Yes, Iris is in this alot.  No, there is no secret marriage. This is not a spoiler, this was referenced in the previous story in this series. The Carlos in this universe is a step to the left of the Carlos in canon, and he has different experiences.  Also, this is my unhinged AU, which means I get to pick and choose which bits of canon I work with.   I did not vibe with that one.

Second things second.  This was going to be a caper, y'all.  It was going to be a short caper.  Carlos and TK were going to go to NOLA and help the Leverage crew take care of some business , and, I don't know, eat beignets and popsicles.  Why popsicles and not po'boys?  Because the last time I was in NOLA I had the best popsicles of my life - they sadly no longer exist, but I can resurrect them for fic.  I also had excellent po'boys, but the popsicles were better.

[eyes fic] I don't know what happened?  Okay, I do know.  One of the weird upsides to writing a series is that you get to deal in consequences and messy afters, and the way that making a decision isn't the end to that decision, and what you did last time around keeps echoing in what you do this time.  Nothing exists in isolation.  And, I love love a story about what happens after - after the war, after the quest, after the reveal.  How do you rebuild, what happens next.  That is my die-hard kink.  Also, there was S4 of Lonestar and I had . . . thoughts, questions, concerns, reactions.  I worked them out in fic.

Third things third.  My characterization of Trudie in this fic owes a debt to Mags Bennett in S2 of Justified.  She was terrifying, and ruthless, and totally in control, and one of the most interesting characters - she's why that season was so good.  Also, go watch Justified, it's fantastic.

Fourth things last.  As ever, don't try this at home y'all, this is not how any of this works.

It's going to be Tarlos's first wedding anniversary next month! How do you think they'll celebrate?

Okay, so I think they actually end up having a bunch of different celebrations.

I think they go over to Andrea's for the anniversary of Gabriel's death - but she surprises them with a dinner that's a celebration, because Gabriel would want them to find joy.

I think they end up having dinner with Owen, sometime around their anniversary, and he toasts them on their anniversary, tells them Gwyn would be proud. Maybe he sneakily gets them a small monk fruit cake for dessert.

I think they end up having a 126 hang sometime near their anniversary, and it ends up being more of a party than a game night, because everyone knows what date it is (because TK will not shut up about it at work - and it's a little annoying, but mostly they're all too happy for him to be really irked, mostly they just tease).

And then, just for them, I think they thought about going away for the weekend - maybe out to Lake LBJ, or up into the Hill Country - but then they couldn't manage to get time off at the same time. So, in the end, they just end up holing up in the loft, and turning off their phones (to everything except emergencies), and just hang out with each other for the weekend. Maybe they cook together, maybe they indulge and just get take out all weekend. But it's just time for them - no interruptions, no parents, no friends, just them. Possibly they don't wear a lot of clothes that weekend.

Carlos wants to take TK out for a special date night, what does he do? Where do they go? What does Carlos wear? What does TK wear?

Thank you for the ask! Sorry it's taken me a while to get to it.

Okay, so coincidentally there was an article in the NYT last week about the best restaurants in Austin, and I think that's what they do - they pick a restaurant. Sometimes it's an old favorite, sometimes it's the new buzzy opening. Sometimes it's somewhere casual and they wear jeans and a nice shirt (or shorts and a light shirt - although, actually we've never seen them in shorts, I'm extrapolating about their summer wear because Austin gets hot. Anyway). Sometimes it's somewhere more formal, and they get dressed up. They don't strike me as suit and tie kind of guys, but dress pants, a nice (ironed) shirt, a blazer.

They like to go out and try new foods. They each get something different so they can trade plates halfway through dinner. They share dessert.

I think sometimes it's spur of the moment, but I also think they have planned date nights. They both have shift work jobs, which means that sometimes you have to plan when you're both going to be home, and not tired, and having a regular date night on the calendar is something they can both look forward to.

in a roundabout way, and for a different reason, but yes.

I wanted to look at more of her past/current relationship with Carlos, and what it would mean for him to reconcile those two things. It’s a slightly step to the left backstory for her, because this is an AU.

I really think TK was taken advantage of when he was younger. He has this vulnerability along with a spark that draws people to him.

He’s also very attractive which many characters have commented on.

I just feel a vulnerable, needy, looking for validation TK who is between 15 to 22 was an easy target for someone wanting to take advantage / abuse a beautiful young person by manipulating their addiction to drugs.

And then you have Carlos, who’s so closed off and alone. His only real friend disappears. He’s distant with his family and can’t seem to make a connection to a partner.

I’m so glad they found each other. They gave each other safety, love and acceptance

Agreed it's definitely my hc that there are some men in New York who did not treat a young TK Strand as gently and respectfully as he deserved to be treated, and TK was in such a low and painful place that he didn't believe he was worthy of more than that.

373,444. It’s kind of crazy to think about the hundreds of thousands of words from my fandom board/LiveJournal days that never made it to AO3 (and never will, because yikes).

I’ve written single fics in a frankly batshit number of fandoms, but actively: 911 Lonestar, The Magicians, and now Red, White, and Royal Blue (with multiples in Smallville, Firefly, and Supernatural in the past).

Hmmm. I am usually an Angst with a Happy Ending girl without fail, though I’ve written my share of hopeful open endings. Outright angst at the end? Of what’s published, it’s probably either Of All Our Yesterdays, a Black Dagger Brotherhood fic that’s basically about Phury being miserable, or Requiem, a Supernatural/Sarah Connor Chronicles crossover featuring two unlikely protagonists, their shared history, and the shakiness of common ground.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Again, I’m generally a purveyor of happy endings, no matter how angsty the journey may be. But in the name of fucking justice for Quentin Coldwater, I’m going with scenes from an unfinished story. Because fuck canon, obviously.

Do you get hate on fics?

Not until recently. Thank you, Iris-hating anon, for ending that streak (not once, but twice!).

Do you write smut?

Somewhere in my writing history, pre-Tarlos me is aghast, but the answer these days is enthusiastically and unequivocally yes.

Craziest crossover:

Besides the aforementioned Supernatural/Sarah Connor Chronicles? I used to love writing crazy, cracky crossovers in utterly serious ways. Supernatural/Grey’s Anatomy. Smallville/Leverage. There’s about 40k of an old Roswell/Angel buried on my passport drive, along with the beginnings of a Smallville/Ally McBeal that literally involved Josh Groban. Of what’s still in public existence… I guess And to All A Goodnight is technically a crossover between books, though they exist in the same canon — ditto to words to get off his chest, which crosses 911 with Lone Star. scenes is a Win a Date with Tad Hamilton fusion, if that counts, though I took a lot of creative license. Craziest posted, though, has to go to American Hero, which is a Sunshine/Journalism RPF crossover that, more than a dozen years later, I still have no explanation for.

Adagio in B-Flat. It’s my white whale.

What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue. Characterization. Usually humor. (The angst goes unsaid.)

What are your writing weaknesses?

Writing action. I live in fear of the day people realize I write tens of thousands of words of nothing but people talking to each other. Also, writing short. I used to be able to bang out fics full of quick, tight snippets, but that ability is gone from me.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I mean, hello. I’ve written my fair share of Spanish dialogue in various fics, as well as some strategic Mandarin back in my Firefly days. I’m all for it, if it’s done well.

Favorite fic you've written?

Still to build a home. Though I’m looking forward to both the same in every language and the TiMER fic being finished and giving it a run for its money.

Refreshed ao3 at the bus stop, saw your fic at the top of the tag and just went “YESSS” audibly in the most demon coded voice- the people at the bus stop now think I’m strange but it’s okay 😂 all this to say, I can’t wait to read it!!!!!

LL has a whole collection of ice storm fics and I recommend all of them! They address a lot of the things that the show never showed us like: Gwyn's reaction to all of this, what it was like when TK came home, the while thing with the nurses (😑) and the first hang after Carlos and TK get back together (which is the one linked above and my favourite one! I love seeing all of the characters together just hanging out and supporting the two of them in their own way).

This one I adore because it's another perspective on how TK and Carlos got back together. It features not just Carlos and TK, but also addresses how the other members of the 126 are reacting to it as well. A lot of ups and downs in TK's recovery, but eventually they find their way back together so beautifully. I also really like the OC in this which is something that always sticks out to me 💜

Do not make me pick a favorite child. I've been around fandom too long to pick one, or even five (or ten).

What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

There's the kid-fic that I want to finish, but cannot find the right hook.

Dialogue. Apparently (mysteriously) heist plots. Emotional descriptives.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Any scene that involves more than two people. Maybe I can manage three people at the outside. More than that and I lose track of the choreography, and I keep forgetting which people have arrived and which have left.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

If it's appropriate - like Carlos (and his family) think in/speak Spanish, so having them use that make sense. That being said, I do not speak Spanish, so finding colloquialisms and making them feel organic can be hard.

First fandom you wrote in?

Published? Lonestar

Unpublished? There's an unholy Smallville story that will never see the light of day. And, a Merlin fic that I co-wrote and falls apart about halfway through.

Favorite fic you've written?

Stealing Nina's idea and doing one in each of my main fandoms I've written in because it's hard to pick (even then this was rough).

Oh, don't make me pick. Okay. I love Knave2, I think it's the best thing I've written. But, I love some of the early fic I wrote that are less plot based and more almost character studies, like stitched with it's color and through sames of am through haves of give
