Jean and Neil are both obsessed with Kevin, and both in a really complicated way, but it’s so wild to me how differently they view him, especially in regard to how much of his actions are viewed as cowardice versus bravery/recklessness.
Like Neil sees him in the aftermath of escaping the nest and goes “agh, pathetic man with a liquid spine”
And Jean loses his mind every time Kevin is on page because he’s taking so many insane risks and spiting Riko left and right - the contrast is just absolutely bonkers.

I was thinking about Jean's complicated feelings about Neil, about the promise of their partnership that never would come to fruition.
I think a part of why Jean seems both wistful and resentful when he thinks about Neil is because he knows, deep down, that Neil would never have betrayed him and abandoned him the way Zane did. Neil would have been his partner in the true sense of the word - he'd have watched Jean's back, on and off the court.
Deep down, I think Jean knows that Neil would have done everything in his power to make sure Grayson and the others could never lay a hand on Jean. If Neil had been a Raven, back then, he wouldn't have just shielded Jean. He'd have eliminated Grayson as a threat entirely.
But because he wasn't there, Jean was left to the wolves.
