Have the week off work tho, which is nice. :) So it does mean hopefully I will be back to my regular posting. Was Tareque a slave? Kept on a tight leash and under the watchful eye of the priestesses? No, he was free to walk in and out whenever he pleased (so long as he was useful). He may have to look over his shoulder every now and again purely because of the environment he was in, but they were nothing alike. He refused to believe it. And Tareque certainly didn't know what it was like to be in his shoes.
Since when did the lich even care to make up these sorts of lies? Was he trying to ease some of the tension that was so obviously cascading from his frame? He didn't think the other man possible of feelings outside of being a smart arse and a nosy sod.
The drow stiffened at the ease of Tareque's words. Excuse him? Just like that? Just... run away? Did he think it was that simple!? It wasn't. Years and years of manipulation kept him here, serving like a blind, faithful fool. Only when he had to kill the man he'd loved had his faith truly shattered, and that had destroyed every ounce of his being.
He could not run. They would find him. They would track him down, and they would kill him.
His expression looked as if he'd seen a ghost at the very idea. It wasn't like it was the first time he'd thought of it, of course. No, he dreamed almost every night of escaping the Underdark and never coming back. But... he couldn't.
Tumblr media
"I... I cannot," he said, his mouth pulling into a firm line before it turned to a scowl. He nudged past Tareque and felt his face scrunch in frustration. He wanted to, but he was scared, and that fear gripped his very heart and squeezed it so tight that it made him feel sick.
"They are my family." His own parents had given him up, had sacrificed him, and they could have killed him (and sometimes he wished that they had), but they didn't. They'd taken him in and nursed him and fed him, and bathed him, and turned him into... this.
Tareque's brow furrowed as Sornin grew more animated, the more he spoke. It didn't take a mind cleric to see the layers that were built up from being amongst those he felt differently from, even if in some manner.
Arms crossed over his chest and the lich looked at Sornin. The facade of humor and sarcasm was momentarily down as he eyed him with more seriousness. "Or perhaps I do understand, to some degree," he insisted. "Do you think I am clueless to the nature of my largest buyer of the more deathly elixirs I brew?"
He might not be as informed or knowledgeable as Sornin to the ways of Lolth's followers, but he had ideas and suspicions that he would have wagered on. That said, he also had no desire to find out if he was correct.
Tumblr media
"Come with me," he blurted, before second-guessing his own offer. "If their cruelty is so great, begone with it; leave here and come with me. You can reside with me as an temporary apprentice as far as the locale is concerned, until I can connect you to those who have similar talents as you. Others who also converse with spiders, so to speak."

How lucky she was, to have them believe that she was dead. But if they were travelling together with this little group of heroes, then he had bad news for her. Soon, they would know she wasn't dead. She may have changed her name, she may have changed how she looked even, but soon enough, someone would recognise her. It was the same for him. Soon, someone would inform the priestesses that he was, indeed, alive.
He had half a mind to flee. Run away and live in the wilderness. But he didn't know this world beyond the Underdark, and he had a nasty parasite that was nestled behind his eyes.
It appeared that the two had much in common.
He frowned. "If that were the case, I would have let them kill me the moment I came to on that beach from the Nautiloid." No, Sornin wanted to live. He was afraid of death, even though he was sure he deserved it.
Tumblr media
"I would not be so certain that they think you dead for long. The more attention we get because of these tadpoles, the more likely someone is to report back to those we once served."
He tucked a lock of hair behind his ear. "We must be careful with who we speak to. We should not trust so easily." They shouldn't even trust each other.
amanita on the other hand, is nothing sort of thrilled about encountering another druid from her circle. though she was swimming in ideas, questions & concerns she tethers herself to the moment with his words. they sting, but it only shows in the twitch of her mouth. a frown threatens her features, but she bites it back stubbornly.
she didn't like thinking about her past. she didn't like thinking about being forsaken by her goddess, she didn't like thinking about the knife her brother had put in her gut. it was easier to exist as something new. it was an indulgence the other clearly did not have. he had not had the privilege of being killed already & as he stated, people would be looking for him.
Tumblr media
" they think i'm dead. " she shares, too casually. lolth didn't want her & neither did the matrons. she knows firsthand what they will do to him if they catch him. it was ironic, really… in another life, she may have been one of the dogs set on his trail. she doubts that's something he needs to hear, so she keeps her truth close to her chest.
" you're right though - they'll be furious. relentless. we must be too. " her tone dips into a bright sarcasm, " unless you are fond of the thought of dying, of course. "

Her voice had such determination in it. Which was almost amusing, considering how kind a person she was. He couldn't see her winning in a fight against drow assassins. It was futile. She'd die, and he wouldn't be surprised if someone else would in their camp as well.
It should not be their burden, though, to protect him from dangerous assassins. How selfish he was to remain, knowing that he was putting them all in danger. But where else would he go? He didn't know this world around him. He was sure he could survive on his own (for a while), but he also had a parasite living inside his head. He'd die sooner or later. They all would.
Tumblr media
"You think you can take on a band of drow assassins?" he laughed quietly. "Well, I like your enthusiasm. You are fierce for someone who is so gentle and kind." People like her died all the time. The world was not a kind place, and people like Aubrey were the first to be killed.
"I'm afraid they would eat you for breakfast..." Lunch and dinner. But he couldn't stop her from trying. Better others die than him, yes? That's what survival instinct was. Alas... when the time came, would he throw them all before him just to protect himself? Sornin was no coward. He would go down fighting.
"If they come, I will kill them. All of them."
While Aubrey didn't have experience with the concept of captivity in her own life, she still knew enough to know that what she spoke was nothing short of the truth. What a person did in the midst of their captivity didn't make that who they were ... it simply made them a survivor, somebody determined to live and continue to live no matter the cost.
Sitting together with Sornin, with his injuries now mostly healed thanks to her magic, she rifled into her pack to produce a salve that'd ward off any chance of infection that may settle into his wounds.
She could tell something had changed in him, his demeaner shifting to something she couldn't quite explain just yet... she didn't know him well enough to pick up on all the nuances of his body language just yet, but she hoped she would given enough time.
"If they do find you... or when they find you... they don't get to have you," she stated firmly, pausing to swipe her finger through the salve, applying it gently upon his injury. "When the time comes... I'll be at your side, defending you. I swear it."

Accessibility within the RPC
How we can make it a better place for everyone. These tips are coming from a accessibility educator and web tester. It's not comprehensive, but meant to give you a crash course. Especially on the most common RPC trends.
General
The more you deviate from standard English writing, the more people are going to be less likely to be able to read and interact with you. People with disabilities, neuro-divergence, or even normal people whose time is limited will be effected with each deviation.
While tools exist to make these things easier to curate someone's experience, their functionality is limited. The large majority of them work by modifying standard English sentence structure. They tend to break or not function properly otherwise.
Some screenreaders for example struggle with all lowercase/uppercase text, double/multi spacing between words, lack of punctuation, etc. They will end up reading the text back in very odd ways.
Color can be make it difficult as well. The themes on Tumblr are varied. Your writing partner could be using these theme and your colored text is nearly impossible to read because of their theme. There are also color contrast issues for people with varying degrees of color blindness.
Accessibility is not one size fits all. Talk with your writing partners about their specific needs.
Tips for a more accessible blog and replies
Look for themes / carrds that are W3G compliant.
Don't use all lowercase text in your replies ( lapslock ).
Don't use all uppercase text outside of well-known acronyms.
Don't put multiple spaces between your words.
Use punctuation in your sentences.
Don't use color in your blog's text.
Use themes / carrds that say what the button/link is for. I, II, III, IV don't really give an indication of what's there. List it out: Rules, Muses, Connections, etc.
Make sure your theme uses at least 16px font sizing. Tumblr's post small font is 13px which is below the standard. The regular font however fits.
Don't make important links or link context like text appear on hover. A mobile device can't see it. Someone who is keyboard only can't either.
Again this isn't comprehensive, but it will give you a start. This is to help be more inclusive with your replies and blogs. This isn't to shame anyone for their aesthetics, but to point out things we can all do to make the RPC more accessible.
What if I like my aesthetics and don't want to change?
That's fine. Just understand it means fewer people can read, process, or comprehend your writing. Better yet if you don't want to switch and instead compromise? Make it very clear in either your rules, pinned post, carrd, etc that you will absolutely switch to regular formatting upon request.
This will help bridge the gap that people with fewer spoons to reach out over this will feel more comfortable doing so.
At the end of the day when we make our replies and RP blogs accessible for those who need it, we make it more accessible for everyone.

Then it was a deal. He could handle a bear. Stupidly, Sornin thought he could handle anything coming at him. Perhaps he'd had too many compliments when it had come to his muscular physic. Perhaps he'd served too many years as a temple guard, throwing anything that came too close to him. Whatever it was, the rest of them could only hope that it served him well today--for a bear was now on the loose.
When chaos ensued, Sornin took his hand crossbow out. Good, they finally got to kill something! Even better that they were goblins.
Inside the prison, he entangled one of the goblins, vines crawling from the cracks between stone and catching their feet. They screamed out as he pierced them with his bow from afar. The children were dealt with, but that didn't mean the others couldn't yell for help. They needed to clear them out. Now.
The bear was not his priority, though it should have been considering its size. A wounded beast could become lethal, especially when cornered, but it appeared that the animal wanted revenge on its captors more than anything else. That meant they had an ally--for now.
The battle was bloody, but soon the prison was filled with goblin corpses, his companions and a man that was standing where a bear once had been.
Tumblr media
Sornin turned to Astarion, a brow raised. "Aren't you glad we freed the bear?" And a bear he was. An elf man, standing near his own height. Poor little Astarion paled in comparison standing between the two. That amused the drow greatly as he smirked.
"If the wild shape is anything to go by, then I assume this is the captive we've been looking for."
Astarion stared. Really truly stared at Sornin as though the Drow had grown a second head. Did he just ask him to release a bear? A bloody bear? Godsdamn druids. More trouble than they ever let on. The nature loving was just a mask he swore. A mask to hide either bravery or stupidity. But on the other hand, a bear causing chaos in a goblin stronghold? The idea had some sadistic appeal to it.
"All right, but if it comes after us, you're the one dealing with it."
Stealth was out of the question. There were too many eyes and ears around them. Astarion wasn't quite certain what transpired. One moment he was daring the goblin children to try again. Provoking them into doing something stupid. And something stupid they did indeed. With them preoccupied, he picked the lock. Released the bear into the dungeons.
All hell broke loose. The goblins panicked. One died almost immediately in the chaos. The rogue silenced the children permanently before they could call for reinforcements. "Well don't just stand there! A little help would be appreciated!" He yelled at Sornin. Astarion was already coated in blood.

Sornin didn't need some elf telling him he was attractive to make him feel better. He was aware of his looks. All drow were considered beautiful, and above all else in Faerun. It was generally his size that made others look, though. They weren't used to drow being so muscular and tall.
He eyed the other man, a huff leaving his nostrils. So Cedric couldn't sleep, and he decided that he would be the best of company? Sornin doubted that very much. For one, he wasn't much of a talker, and if he did speak, it was usually blunt and what people seemed to call 'inconsiderate'. It wasn't his fault that they were all so damn sensitive. Perhaps a life sworn to Lolth made him crueller than most on the surface.
Tumblr media
"Lava, you say?" he asked, looking Cedric up and down. "If that were the case, shouldn't you be burnt to a crisp? And deader looking..."

❝ Observing is not staring. Though, I'll allow your ego to consider it staring if that makes you feel better about yourself."
The wolf chuckled as he cautiously entered the room, the grey and red hues of his eyes scanning the area as if expecting an attacker to jump out at him any second. The lingering paranoia from Elturel seemed to cling to his bones, and the idea of being in closed rooms didn't sit well with him. At one point, he'd considered asking to stay at their old camp, but the idea seemed increasingly ridiculous the more he thought about it.
❝ It's just hard to fall asleep inside. Last time I did that, my entire city found itself in the Nine Hells, and I woke up in a hot tub full of lava. Not even naked people in there, just hot and painful lava. And they dare to say devils know how to host welcome parties. ❞

[ BLADE ] : sender, having been enemies with the receiver, places a knife to their throat, but does nothing else. (Gortash // @architaciturn )
SEXUAL TENSION PROMPTS. || @architaciturn
Tumblr media
Sornin has sized the man up, the drow much bigger than Gortash. It was almost too easy to press him against the wall and have his short sword against soft flesh.
A rare moment that the Lord was on his own, especially considering the metal machines that kept their watch. But Sornin had been a guard for a very long time, so he was used to their patrols. People needed rest, but the Steelwatch? Those were not people. That required something else. Muscle.
Truth be told, he'd been sent to kill Gortash after their little group of merrymen had gained his trust. But Sornin wasn't so thrilled on the idea of killing him yet. He had no loyalty to those people. He had no loyalty to anyone but himself now that he was free of Lolth's binds.
Tumblr media
"I should kill you," he said through gritted teeth, making sure to keep his weight against the man so he'd not escape, "it is what I have been sent do to. But..." He lowered the blade just a little. "I have had my years of slavery. I wish to be your equal. As your promised."
How foolish of him, to believe that Lord Enver Gortash would not go back on his promise, but so far, the "hero" that had been leading him had been nothing but a liar, making most of their companions turn on each other or leave.

Sornin had spent his entire life in a temple. In many ways, Shar was just as cruel as Lolth. They both fed off the misery of their servants, and watched them as they suffered, lifting not a single digit to aid their plight. Some would say that Lolth was far crueller, and perhaps they were right, but Sornin held nothing but detest to gods these days. Perhaps 97 years of enslavement and punishment was just too much for one man.
It brought an uneasiness to the drow, knowing that his companions still worshipped their deities, especially when it came to Shadowheart. She knew little of her past, and that in itself made him question her goddesses motives. He had been an offering to Lolth, it was true, and the matrons in the temple had manipulated him in any way they could, but who was saying that Shadowheart's Lady was not doing the same thing? What if it was all a lie?
Right now, the temple was the epitome of what religion and faith could do in his eyes. It was nothing but corpses, people throwing away their lives to serve and hope that they would be granted some boon. Gods were cruel. All of them. But he also understood what blind faith could do to a person.
Tumblr media
"You could lay your life down for Shar and it still would not be enough to sate her hunger," he muttered. It may have been cruel to say, but he had no love for the gods, and Shadowheart shouldn't either. "You had no other choice but to kill them. Do not pity them. They made their choice." What mattered was them getting out alive. Every part of this place made his skin crawl with the memories of his own servitude.
❝  was this not what you expected?" (Hello~ !)
PROMPTS / @lolthswcrn
Tumblr media
She hadn't expected a palace or temple in full glory, knowing well the devastation wrought by the Shadow Curse during Moonrise. Yet, seeing her Dark Lady's temple in ruins, defiled with bodies of Selunite worshippers at its door and the sin of Myrkul etched deep into its stones, with a devil feasting upon the Night Singer's loyal servants—it was far from what she had anticipated.
" How is this anywhere near what I was expecting? My Lady's home, a sanctuary of worship, a bastion of faith. Not a place tainted by rotting corpses, shed blood for Myrkul or Selune, and certainly not a devil preying on my sisters for amusement! "
The guardians of the temple, her fallen sisters, had attacked her. Out of everyone, they had chosen her. Was her Lady displeased with her? Was she unworthy of her Lady's blessing? The confusion was overwhelming, spreading through her limbs like wildfire.
" Why did they attack me? Haven't I proven my loyalty enough? Haven't I done enough to show my devotion? "
