To be a bit of a hater for a second, one upside about Soldier 76 not getting a skin for Mirrorwatch is that I've noticed the heroes that were flipped might be getting actual backstories for these versions of them, and I'm 100% certain that any backstory they came up with for 'evil Jack' would be terrible. I guess I should count my blessings.

(I don't think I've ever seen a good corruption arc for Jack. All of the ones I've seen attempted have done such a disservice to his character. No thanks.)

A really heartbreaking detail of Lucky Man was that Jack thinks he deserved to die in the Zurich explosion because he hates himself that much :(

I don't know for sure if there will be an ebook. They haven't said anything about that yet. That said, I'd be surprised if one never comes out. Keeping it exclusively physical forever would just be out of touch with modern technology. But, I don't really have any idea when it will appear.

[Minor Overwatch Heroes Ascendant Spoilers]

One more thing about Lucky Man (the story with Jack and Sombra).

This isn't a very specific or major spoiler, but this story made it clear just how much guilt and self-loathing Jack feels, and how a lot of his whole crusade is him trying to make amends for all of the ways he feels he failed (which was what I suspected already). It's very sad, but I think it's a great piece of character development. Jack is such a 'Boy Scout' style of altruistic overachiever, and he comes down on himself so hard every time he fails other people. A mix of being a Type A and also his whole hero complex. I like that character detail a lot. This terror of letting people down also goes a long way to explain why he accepted the Strike Commander position in the first place (along with all of the complications that came with).

Anyway, I feel really bad for him. :( More than ever, I want a recovery arc for him now.

For the record, I might have more to say about other Heroes Ascendant stories in the coming days. I've been extremely tired this week because of real life circumstances, so I've only read Jack and Sombra's story so far (because no amount of exhaustion was going to stop me from reading that immediately after I got the book). So. Look forward to that, maybe.

A thing I really liked from this story was Jack remembering specific details about members of Overwatch during his PTSD flashback.

(Sorry this is a picture of a book page; there's no ebook out yet).

I thought this was a really good detail, showing how much he cared about individual members of Overwatch, as well as being a good representation of PTSD flashbacks in general. Big props to Melissa Scott for this one.
