Perhaps an unpopular opinion-- I actually like the idea of Yue Qingyuan healing from the Lingxi Caves without any scars remaining on his body.

Let me explain this: cultivation is basically, in simple terms, the constant restructuring, refining, and rebuilding of one's body to contain and channel more spiritual energy. Oftentimes, scars and imperfections to the body will be healed when surpassing various points in cultivation level, and wounds will heal without scars. In SVSSS, only LBH is canonically this way, but it wouldn't be a stretch to say there's also a very low rate of scarring among cultivators in general, or that scars will disappear at various points.

Anyway, Yue Qi getting out of the Lingxi Caves, washing all of the blood off of his body and expecting to see a terrible mess of scars everywhere, but it turns out that there's nothing. Every inch of skin on his body perfectly unblemished, soft and smooth, like he hadn't endured a single day of hardship in his life.

So much pain inside of him, yet nothing to show it to the outside... Everyone else in the world either not knowing, or forgetting about it. He becomes head disciple, becomes Yue Qingyuan, becomes the sect successor, becomes famous throughout the cultivation world. He's praised, he's accepted-- but every time he looks in the mirror, there's a discrepancy between the image of himself in his mind, and the image he sees before him.

When he reunites with Shen Jiu, just like he can't tell him what happened, there's no way to show him either-- Yue Qingyuan has been remade into the perfect righteous cultivator, without a trace of his past remaining on him-- even though he never wanted to cast it off entirely in the first place.

Yue Qingyuan looks at himself and wishes that the outside wounds hadn't healed so perfectly.
