Because names are among the first things you learn about someone, they can influence first impressions. That this is particularly true for names associated with Black people came to light in 2004 with the release of a study that found employers seeing identical resumes were 50% more likely to call back an applicant with stereotypical white names like Emily or Greg versus applicants with names like Jamal or Lakisha. I'm a behavioral economist who researches discrimination in labor markets. In a study based on a hiring experiment I conducted with another economist, Rulof Burger, we found that participants systematically discriminated against job candidates with names they associated with Black people, especially when put under time pressure. We also found that white people who oppose affirmative action discriminated more than other people against job candidates with distinctly Black names, whether or not they had to make rushed decisions.

Peace and Love, Black Family!
✊🏾🟥⬛️🟩✊🏾
The foundation of the United States is built on savagery and murder— plain and simple, so taking pride in a nation built on the savagery, murder, enslavement, segregation, and mind control of Black people is deeply problematic. Not to mention, look at where we are at now…WE ARE LOST! No friends. No allies. And we have no faith in our own power!
😡
Systemically racist institutions in the U.S. have inherently been biased against Black people from the jump, and we’ve sold out one another to have a place in this HELL! Only those living in bliss can take pride in a nation that perpetuates inequality. None of us in our right mind can endorse these systemic issues blindly.
😡
The exploitation of Black labor and resources, historically and presently, is a critical point. The wealth of this nation has been significantly built on the exploitation of Black people…African people and Africa, making any attempt of national pride fiercely complex.
😡
Critiquing the U.S. for its foreign policies, especially those that negatively impact African countries and people of melanated and oppressed people globally has desensitized us to inactivity. Why have pride in a nation that engages and supports oppressive policies abroad? That’s the epitome of brainwashed!
😡
The erasure, appropriation, and weaponization of Black contributions to the 🇺🇸 mainstream culture is another point of contention. Celebrating a nation that marginalizes and appropriates the contributions of Black culture, while simultaneously oppressing Black people, is contradictory.
😡
Until we truly realize that resistance to oppression and solidarity among Black people is NECESSARY, we are just collaborators in our own demise—globally! Pride in a nation as oppressive as the 🇺🇸 is contrary to the principles of Black Liberation!

Peace and Love, Black Family!
✊🏾🟥⬛️🟩✊🏾
Nas' album "Hip Hop Is Dead," released in 2006, was a provocative statement that generated significant discussion in the music world and beyond. The title track, "Hip Hop Is Dead," is often interpreted as Nas' critique of the state of hip-hop at the time, suggesting that it had lost its originality and authenticity. This sentiment resonated with listeners who felt that the genre was becoming too commercialized and disconnected from its roots in the Black community.
💯
The impact of hip hop on the upliftment of the Black community is multifaceted but an illusion like the return of Jesus. Hip hop emerged as a powerful expression for Black and Brown youths in urban 🇺🇸 cities, originating in the Bronx, New York, in the 1970s. It provided a platform for storytelling, sharing experiences, and addressing social issues like poverty, racism, and police brutality. Over the years, hip-hop artists have used their influence to raise awareness about social injustices and inspire change. It has been instrumental in shaping culture, fashion, language, and art within and beyond the Black community.
🤔
Hip-hop has created an economic system that has profited every other community but the Black community in truth. It’s a blessing that street kids with no education have become multi-millionaire artists, producers, and entrepreneurs to succeed in an industry they have no significant control over, but what about the rest of us? This economic empowerment has been crucial in lining the pockets of Jewish executives at the expense of Black folks across the nation.
💯
In summary, while Nas' statement about hip hop being dead was a critique of the genre's state, he didn’t lie! And those with wisdom knew it had to be said! Wake the f*ck up! HIP-HOP IS DEAD. 🪦
