Don't Wait for Your Muse (Using Sources)

    ��           In the same way that artists collect reference photos, fashion designers collect fabrics and textures, and interior designers collect paint chips, writers must collect sources. A source could be:

Evocative, funny, or interesting dialogue

A description you’ve never heard before

Interesting and rare words

A cool dream you had

A paragraph from a book you love

A specific feeling or experience

Something you saw out in the real world

A snippet of conversation you passed by on the street

A smell that gives you a particular memory

Any other piece of art, writing, music, design, a sense, story, etc. etc.

Essentially, anything that sparks your imagination, that’s evocative of the human experience—of that humanity and closeness we’re always trying to capture. My creative writing prof said to us, “why are you waiting for a ‘muse’? Go to your sources. Don’t just wait for inspiration to strike.”

                She cautioned us not to try to make sense when we put together our sources, but rather make meaning. The nice, easy part is that anything you put together will create meaning. So here’s what we gathered to get started, but I also challenge you to carry a journal or a place on your phone to start collecting things you find out in the world.

                Choose a one-word or sentence theme that describes your project. For this theme, collect:

A photo, taken by anyone at any time

A poem, written by anyone

A paragraph from a newspaper or magazine article, then scramble it using the “cut up machine”

A screenshot of something posted on social media

A series of text messages, emails, or other communication between parties

A screenshot of the abstract of a scholarly article

Whenever they knew that Peter was in the tower they always tried to have team meals throughout the day. It's not like Peter is the team/house Omega but they know after the loss of May they wanted to have more of a pack for him. His room was on Tony's floor as he has known him the longest and they are the closest.

Sam was currently cooking breakfast when Tony walked into the kitchen. " Have you seen Peter? He wasn't in his room when I went to go get him.... Friday? Baby girl where is "

Tony wasn't able to finish his sentence when Friday interrupted " Sergeant Barnes, Peter is asking for you" the room froze for a moment. The only sound was the grease popping on the skillet Sam was using. Bucky looked over at Steve before putting down the knife he was using to cut up fresh fruit with. Wiping his hands on a dish towel before leaving the room. Sputtering could be heard from Tony " He knows where Peter is? Why he asking for him? What... "

" Now Tony calm down. It's probably nothing. Nothing is on the.... schedule. So it nothing. Just relax"

Bucky didn't hear the rest as he made his way back towards his room. He pauses outside of the door before giving a small knock before walking in. " Morning Doll, hear you looking for me?"

Currently Peter was curled upbin the middle of Buckys bed, hugging a stormtroopers plushie. Alpine laying across the top of the head board. Peter gave a small wine as he rolled over " Alpha I slept on my ear funny and it hurts...." pouting more before Peter opened his eyes to look up at Bucky.

Laughing Bucky walks forward and kneels on the bed, reaching out and cupping the ear. " Sorry Doll. That tends to happen sometimes- you sleep good though? I would of put you in your bed but I don't have access to Tony's floor."

Nodding, Peter pulls the blankets close " It's fine Bucky, but we are gonna have to get you better pillows. This nest needs more cushion. "

Moving his hand away Bucky pokes the pillow " These are fine Pete, plus this isn't a nest just my bed"

" Well I want it to be our nest and I wanna have more soft pillows"

" Oh? You want nest here? With me?"

" Yes" Peter says confidently but then he bites his bottom lip before looking back up at Bucky. " If... if that's okay..."

Bucky smiles before leaning down and nuzzling the side of Peter's head. He gives a small kiss to his cheek. " I would like nothing better.... but let me take you out on a proper date 1st Doll....and we can pick out some new pillows..."

" Yes! I mean yes. Great. And maybe more blankets... "

Chuckling before nodding his head. " Anything you want Doll. Now get dressed and come to breakfast. Sam is cooking today and well..we'll... Tony was there when Friday asked for me.."
