some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.

I honestly relate to doc a lot more than I do to Marty. I'm so passionate about art and I would do anything to achieve my goal even if it requires a lot of patience and a bunch of failures. I'd be so focused on my art to the point where I can't even do anything else besides art like taking care of myself or cleaning my own room. I often get distracted by a lot of things and yet I still love art and still want to keep on making them. I don't really have many people I consider as friends and I rarely spend time with anyone. Basically I'm just rambling about why I love doc sm he's one of my favorite comfort characters ever

I saw a post talking about how george’s father was exactly like george as far as spineless and unsupportive of his dreams. It seems to be generational trauma within the mcflys, and kinda makes marty seem like an anomaly, of course he has self doubt but he’s definitely not spineless. Do you think he’s so different because maybe george was slightly more nurturing than his father was, he just had more drive to be different than his father, or maybe it was purely because of doc’s guidance, and marty might’ve been a bit different when they first met?

I think it was probably a mixture of all those things.

For as spineless as Twin Pines George seems, I do think he was as nurturing a father as he could be. We barely get any time with the TP McFlys, but I've always gotten the sense that Dave, Linda, and Marty were raised with love. George was likely a very anxious father—always looking out for danger and wanting to "bubble wrap" his kids—but I see him being a good one, and I think that's reflected in the love Marty clearly has for him.

I also think that Marty generally just had more drive and was also acutely aware of the dysfunction in his family and the pattern of McFly men being pushovers (at least where George and Arthur are concerned). Though he dealt with his own anxieties and self-esteem issues, Marty wanted to "do better" than his father. He'd be the one to break the cycle.

And yes, Doc played a big role in guiding Marty as well. Without his steady support, it would have been very easy for Marty to grow discouraged and assume he was destined for the same fate as his father. After all, before Doc, who would have been there for Marty as someone to look up to? Not George. Not Lorraine either. Doc filled a crucial role in his life and, I think, kept Marty going at those moments when he wanted to give up.
